Detection of both scene text and graphic text in video images is gaining popularity in the area of information retrieval for efficient indexing and understanding the video. In this paper, we explore a new idea of classifying low contrast and high contrast video images in order to detect accurate boundary of the text lines in video images. In this work, high contrast refers to sharpness while low contrast refers to dim intensity values in the video images. The method introduces heuristic rules based on combination of filters and edge analysis for the classification purpose. The heuristic rules are derived based on the fact that the number of Sobel edge components is more than the number of Canny edge components in the case of high contrast video images, and vice versa for low contrast video images. In order to demonstrate the use of this classification on video text detection, we implement a method based on Sobel edges and texture features for detecting text in video images. Experiments are conducted using video images containing both graphic text and scene text with different fonts, sizes, languages, backgrounds. The results show that the proposed method outperforms existing methods in terms of detection rate, false alarm rate, misdetection rate and inaccurate boundary rate.  相似文献

The simultaneous effect of a vertical AC electric field and rotation on the onset of thermal convective instability in a horizontal rotating dielectric fluid layer is studied by performing linear stability analysis. The lower and upper boundaries of the fluid layer are considered to be either rigid or free and either isothermal or insulated to temperature perturbations. The resulting eigenvalue problem is solved exactly for free–free isothermal boundaries. It is observed that the oscillatory convection is not a preferred mode of instability for dielectric fluids and the necessary conditions for its occurrence are independent of applied vertical AC electric field. For the other combinations of velocity and temperature boundary conditions, the problem is solved numerically using the Galerkin method. The similarities and differences between the results of isothermal and insulated boundaries are highlighted. It is noted that the effect of increasing AC electric Rayleigh number is to increase the transfer of heat more effectively and hence to hasten the onset of convection. To the contrary, the effect of rotation is to delay the electrothermal convection for a fixed type of boundary conditions. Although the rigid–rigid boundaries enhance the stability when compared to rigid–free and free–free boundaries up to moderate values of Taylor number, the situation is reversed at high Taylor number domain. This trend depends on the temperature boundary conditions as well.  相似文献

The effects of boundary and local thermal non-equilibrium on the criterion for the onset of convection in a sparsely packed horizontal anisotropic porous layer are investigated. A two-field temperature model each representing the solid and fluid phases separately is used and the flow in the porous medium is described by the Brinkman extended-Darcy model. The lower boundary is rigid, while the upper boundary is considered to be either rigid or free with fixed temperature conditions at the boundaries. The stability equations are solved numerically using the Galerkin method to extract the critical stability parameters. The influence of local thermal non-equilibrium, mechanical and thermal anisotropy parameters representing the fluid and solid phases is assessed on the stability characteristics of the system. The existing results are obtained as limiting cases from the present study.  相似文献

A system for the detection, segmentation and recognition of multi-class hand postures against complex natural backgrounds is presented. Visual attention, which is the cognitive process of selectively concentrating on a region of interest in the visual field, helps human to recognize objects in cluttered natural scenes. The proposed system utilizes a Bayesian model of visual attention to generate a saliency map, and to detect and identify the hand region. Feature based visual attention is implemented using a combination of high level (shape, texture) and low level (color) image features. The shape and texture features are extracted from a skin similarity map, using a computational model of the ventral stream of visual cortex. The skin similarity map, which represents the similarity of each pixel to the human skin color in HSI color space, enhanced the edges and shapes within the skin colored regions. The color features used are the discretized chrominance components in HSI, YCbCr color spaces, and the similarity to skin map. The hand postures are classified using the shape and texture features, with a support vector machines classifier. A new 10 class complex background hand posture dataset namely NUS hand posture dataset-II is developed for testing the proposed algorithm (40 subjects, different ethnicities, various hand sizes, 2750 hand postures and 2000 background images). The algorithm is tested for hand detection and hand posture recognition using 10 fold cross-validation. The experimental results show that the algorithm has a person independent performance, and is reliable against variations in hand sizes and complex backgrounds. The algorithm provided a recognition rate of 94.36 %. A comparison of the proposed algorithm with other existing methods evidences its better performance.  相似文献

Summary The onset of Marangoni convection with throughflow in a horizontal fluid layer with upper boundary free and insulating to temperature perturbations and the lower boundary rigid and either conducting or insulating to temperature perturbations is investigated. The resulting eigenvalue problem is solved exactly. The Prandtl number arising due to throughflow plays a crucial role in determining the stability of the system. It is found that a small amount of throughflow in one particular direction destabilizes the system depending on the Prandtl number and temperature boundary conditions.  相似文献

Summary The effect of throughflow on the stability of double diffusive convection in a porous layer is investigated for different types of hydrodynamic boundary conditions. The lower and upper boundaries are assumed to be insulating to temperature and concentration perturbations. The resulting eigenvalue problem is solved by the Galerkin technique. The curvature of the basic temperature as well as solute concentration gradients significantly affects the stability of the system. It is observed that, for a suitable choice of parametric values, Hopf bifurcation occurs always prior to direct bifurcation, and the throughflow alters the nature of bifurcation. In contrast to the single component system, it is found that throughflow is (a) destabilizing even if the lower and upper boundaries are of the same type, and (b) stabilizing as well as destabilizing, irrespective of its direction, when the boundaries are of different types.  相似文献

Summary The throughflow and internal heat generation effects on the onset of convection in an infinite horizontal fluid layer are investigated. The boundaries are considered to be rigid (however permeable) and perfectly conducting. The resulting eigenvalue problem is solved by using the Galerkin method, and the effects of various parameters in the stability results are analyzed. The results indicate that the stability of the system is significantly affected by both throughflow and internal heat generation in the fluid layer. The Prandtl number comes into play due to the presence of throughflow and it has a profound effect on the stability of the system. It is found that, in the presence of internal heating, throughflow in one direction supresses convection while throughflow in the other direction encourages it.  相似文献
