Cyclic voltammetric and galvanostatic experiments have been carried out with both synthetic and commercial bleach solutions with a view to regenerating the same. Maximum efficiency could be achieved if the oxidation is carried out below an anodic potential of 0·80 V vs SCE. The data obtained in galvanostatic experiments with RCE confirm the results of the earlier technique.  相似文献

A bench-scale pilot plant was operated to evaluate the potential of using microfiltration hollow fiber membrane modules as an air diffuser and solid∕liquid separator in an alternate cycle within a bioreactor treating domestic wastewater. Two modules capable of air backwashing were immersed in a bioreactor. Compressed air backwashing and filtration by suction were effected alternatively. The experimental results reveal that application of the air backwashing technique to submerged membrane modules is capable of not only declogging the membranes but also of aerating the mixed liquor. Thus, better filtration flux rate and aeration without a separate aeration device were attained simultaneously. It was also noted that the introduction of an anoxic zone enhanced the removal of nitrogen. In addition, operation at low hydraulic retention time with high sludge concentration and the absence of a sedimentation tank indicate considerable savings on the plant area.  相似文献

The water absorption pattern and associated dimensional changes and solid loss of oil palm fiber–linear low density polyethylene composites was studied. The effects of fiber size (425–840, 177–425, and 75–177 μ), fiber loading (0, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50%), and time of immersion (192 h at an interval of 24 h) on these parameters were also studied. Alkali treatment of fibers was done to reduce the hydrophilic nature of the composites and its effect was studied. It was found that the water absorption in most of the combinations followed typical Fickian behavior. The rate of water absorption and swelling increased with fiber loading. However, alkali treatment of the fibers resulted in a reduction of water absorption at higher fiber loadings only, and composites with higher fiber sizes exhibited higher water absorption. A sharp increase in the thickness swelling was observed in the initial days of immersion, which remained constant thereafter. The thickness swelling also increased with fiber size; however, a constant trend was not observed for the 75–177 μ fiber size. In addition to thickness swelling, composites also expanded linearly during water absorption; however, linear expansion was considerably less than thickness swelling. Higher fiber loading and alkali treatment caused more linear expansion. We observed that maximum solid loss on water immersion occurred with small‐sized and also alkali‐treated fiber composites. An increase in thickness and a decrease in linear dimension were observed after one sorption–desorption cycle. The previously described “redoxokinetic effect” is used to indicate the end-points of titrations of Fe2+ with Cr2O72-, sulphuric acid with sodium hydroxide, AsO2- with I2 and Ag+ with Cl. With the first three systems an accuracy of 0·1 per cent is possible. The method is not suited to the fourth system.

Abstract

Titrations of sulphuric acid vs. sodium hydroxide at 0·1 N concentration and ferrous ammonium sulphate vs. potassium dichromate at 0·05 N concentration can be carried out with an accuracy of ±0·1 per cent using the redoxokinetic technique. A very sharp end-point was obtained in the case of iodine vs. arsenite titration at 0·1 N concentration. Silver nitrate vs. chloride titrations cannot be carried out by the redoxokinetic technique.

Addition of MnSO4 to the extent of 50 g/l. of the solution enhances the precision considerably in the titration of dilute solutions of ferrous ammonium sulphate with dichromate.  相似文献

We report the design and characterization of a circuit technique to measure the on-chip delay of an individual logic gate (both inverting and noninverting) in its unmodified form. The test circuit comprises of digitally reconfigurable ring oscillator (RO). The gate under test is embedded in each stage of the ring oscillator. A system of linear equations is then formed with different configuration settings of the RO, relating the individual gate delay to the measured period of the RO, whose solution gives the delay of the individual gates. Experimental results from a test chip in 65-nm process node show the feasibility of measuring the delay of an individual inverter to within 1 ps accuracy. Delay measurements of different nominally identical inverters in close physical proximity show variations of up to 28% indicating the large impact of local variations. As a demonstration of this technique, we have studied delay variation with poly-pitch, length of diffusion (LOD) and different orientations of layout in silicon. The proposed technique is quite suitable for early process characterization, monitoring mature process in manufacturing and correlating model-to-hardware.  相似文献

Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) is a legume consumed as a high‐quality plant protein source in many parts of the world. High protein and carbohydrate contents with a relatively low fat content and a complementary amino acid pattern to that of cereal grains make cowpea an important nutritional food in the human diet. Cowpea has gained more attention recently from consumers and researchers worldwide as a result of its exerted health beneficial properties, including anti‐diabetic, anti‐cancer, anti‐hyperlipidemic, anti‐inflammatory and anti‐hypertensive properties. Among the mechanisms that have been proposed in the prevention of chronic diseases, the most proven are attributed to the presence of compounds such as soluble and insoluble dietary fiber, phytochemicals, and proteins and peptides in cowpea. However, studies on the anti‐cancer and anti‐inflammatory properties of cowpea have produced conflicting results. Some studies support a protective effect of cowpea on the progression of cancer and inflammation, whereas others did not reveal any. Because there are only a few studies addressing health‐related effects of cowpea consumption, further studies in this area are suggested. In addition, despite the reported favorable effects of cowpea on diabetes, hyperlipidemia and hypertension, a long‐term epidemiological study investigating the association between cowpea consumption and diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer is also recommended. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Potatoes have shown promising health‐promoting properties in human cell culture, experimental animal and human clinical studies, including antioxidant, hypocholesterolemic, anti‐inflammatory, antiobesity, anticancer and antidiabetic effects. Compounds present such as phenolics, fiber, starch and proteins as well as compounds considered antinutritional such as glycoalkaloids, lectins and proteinase inhibitors are believed to contribute to the health benefits of potatoes. However, epidemiological studies exploring the role of potatoes in human health have been inconclusive. Some studies support a protective effect of potato consumption in weight management and diabetes, while other studies demonstrate no effect and a few suggest a negative effect. As there are many biological activities attributed to the compounds present in potato, some of which could be beneficial or detrimental depending on specific circumstances, a long‐term study investigating the association between potato consumption and diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease and cancer while controlling for fat intake is needed. © 2016 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Four pilot-scale lysimeters were used to study the benefits of landfill operation with and without leachate recirculation in tropical weather conditions. Young and old landfills were simulated by filling lysimeters with a segregated fraction of fresh municipal solid waste (MSW) and MSW mined from an open dump site, respectively, and periodically monitoring leachate quantity and quality and biogas quality. For each substrate, one lysimeter was operated as a bioreactor with leachate recirculation and another lysimeter was operated as a controlled dump, for a period of 10 months. Densities between 652 and 825??kg/m3 could be achieved with fresh and mined MSW. Despite such compaction during waste placement, bioreactor technology helps in leachate management, especially in the case of the young landfill lysimeter operated in tropical weather. The benefits of leachate recirculation in the young landfill lysimeter were evident from the significant decrease in chemical oxygen demand (COD) (86%), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) (82%), dissolved organic carbon (DOC) (85%), and volatile solids (75%) in leachates. However, ammonia nitrogen (amm-N) and chlorides in the leachates accumulated in bioreactor landfills. Operating an old landfill lysimeter as a bioreactor seemed to have no exceptional advantage in the context of leachate management, although leachate recirculation enhanced the methane potential of both fresh and mined MSW.  相似文献

Gas distribution mapping (GDM) learns models of the spatial distribution of gas concentrations across 2D/3D environments, among others, for the purpose of localizing gas sources. GDM requires run-time robot positioning in order to associate measurements with locations in a global coordinate frame. Most approaches assume that the robot has perfect knowledge about its position, which does not necessarily hold in realistic scenarios. We argue that the simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) algorithm should be used together with GDM to allow operation in an unknown environment. This paper proposes an SLAM-GDM approach that combines Hector SLAM and Kernel DM?+?V through a map merging technique. We argue that Hector SLAM is suitable for the SLAM-GDM approach since it does not perform loop closure or global corrections, which in turn would require to re-compute the gas distribution map. Real-time experiments were conducted in an environment with single and multiple gas sources. The results showed that the predictions of gas source location in all trials were often correct to around 0.5–1.5 m for the large indoor area being tested. The results also verified that the proposed SLAM-GDM approach and the designed system were able to achieve real-time operation.  相似文献

Measuring the extent of flow of viscous fluids inside opaque molds has been a very important parameter in determining the quality of products in the manufacturing process such as injection molding and resin transfer molding. Hence, in this article, an ultrasonic torsional guided wave sensor has been discussed for monitoring the movement of flow front during filling of resins in opaque molds. A pair of piezoelectric normal shear transducers were used for generating and receiving the fundamental ultrasonic torsional guided wave mode in thin copper wires. The torsional mode was excited at one end of the wire, while the flowing viscous fluid progressively wet the other free end of the wire. The time of flight of the transient reflections of this fundamental mode from the air-fluid interface, where the wire enters the resin, was used to measure the position of the fluid flow front. Experiments were conducted on four fluids with different viscosity values. Two postprocessing algorithms were developed for enhancing the transient reflected signal and for suppressing the unwanted stationary signals. The algorithms were tested for cases where the reflected signals showed a poor signal to noise ratio.  相似文献
