Atmospheric plasma treatments on various forms of carbon were performed to compare the effect of surface modification using carbon monoxide (CO) as the active gas, in comparison to the conventionally used O2. Changes in surface characteristics were analyzed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) as a function of duration. The results indicated that use of O2 plasma resulted in only a limited oxygen uptake (O/C = 0.11), while CO treatments resulted in tailorable surface O/C ratios as high as 0.69, a result not attainable when using low-pressure RF plasmas (O/C < 0.1). High-resolution XPS analysis and Auger spectroscopy confirmed that a tailorable level of carbonyl functional groups could be evenly distributed throughout the surface. Both Raman and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) indicated nano-scale degradation of the structure when using the O2 treatment. On the other hand, CO treated specimens exhibited no observable damage to the material with high levels of oxygen incorporation. Contact angle measurements verified the formation of a highly stable hydrophilic surface and excellent dispersion was observed in an aqueous solution on treated specimens after CO treatment. The CO treatment was also successfully applied to SWCNT with similar results and no degradation of structure.  相似文献

While existing eye detection and tracking algorithms can work reasonably well in a controlled environment, they tend to perform poorly under real world imaging conditions where the lighting produces shadows and the person’s eyes can be occluded by e.g. glasses or makeup. As a result, pixel clusters associated with the eyes tend to be grouped together with background-features. This problem occurs both for eye detection and eye tracking. Problems that especially plague eye tracking include head movement, eye blinking and light changes, all of which can cause the eyes to suddenly disappear. The usual approach in such cases is to abandon the tracking routine and re-initialize eye detection. Of course this may be a difficult process due to missed data problem. Accordingly, what is needed is an efficient method of reliably tracking a person’s eyes between successively produced video image frames, even in situations where the person’s head turns, the eyes momentarily close and/or the lighting conditions are variable. The present paper is directed to an efficient and reliable method of tracking a human eye between successively produced infrared interlaced image frames where the lighting conditions are challenging. It proposes a log likelihood-ratio function of foreground and background models in a particle filter-based eye tracking framework. It fuses key information from even, odd infrared fields (dark and bright-pupil) and their corresponding subtractive image into one single observation model. Experimental validations show good performance of the proposed eye tracker in challenging conditions that include moderate head motion and significant local and global lighting changes. The paper presents also an eye detector that relies on physiological infrared eye responses and a modified version of a cascaded classifier.  相似文献

The effect of impregnating capacitor-grade polypropylene film with an aromatic hydrocarbon fluid is examined with a view towards assessing the response under radiation of the relevant properties of the film. Monoisopropyl biphenyl (MIPB)-impregnated polypropylene film was exposed in air to 1-MeV electrons at different dose rates and the post-radiation effects on the electrical, mechanical, morphological, and chemical properties were evaluated. The results obtained indicate that the oil-impregnated films remain relatively stable even at the highest dose of 108 rads. This is in contrast to the results reported by the authors (ibid., vol.NS-34, no.6, p.1822-6, 1987) for dry polypropylene films which underwent degradation due to chain scission and oxidation. In the present instance, it is believed that impregnation of the film has inhibited the diffusion of oxygen and consequently favored crosslinking. The chemical characterizations as well as the changes in some of the measured properties of the film are seen to corroborate this belief  相似文献

The hazards of chemicals can be classified using classification criteria that are based on physical, chemical and ecotoxicological endpoints. These criteria may be developed be iteratively, based on scientific or regulatory processes. A number of national and international schemes have been developed over the past 50 years, and some, such as the UN Dangerous Goods system or the EC system for hazardous substances, are in widespread use. However, the unnecessarily complicated multiplicity of existing hazard classifications created much unnecessary confusion at the user level, and a recommendation was made at the 1992 Rio Earth summit to develop a globally harmonized chemical hazard classification and compatible labelling system, including material safety data sheets and easily understandable symbols, that could be used for manufacture, transport, use and disposal of chemical substances. This became the globally harmonized system for the Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). The developmental phase of the GHS is largely complete. Consistent criteria for categorising chemicals according to their toxic, physical, chemical and ecological hazards are now available. Consistent hazard communication tools such as labelling and material safety data sheets are also close to finalisation. The next phase is implementation of the GHS. The Intergovernmental Forum for Chemical Safety recommends that all countries implement the GHS as soon as possible with a view to have the system fully operational by 2008. When the GHS is in place, the world will finally have one system for classification of chemical hazards.  相似文献

The oxidation stability of castor oil fatty methyl ester (FAME), doped with four different phenolic antioxidants, was evaluated using a rapid method of thermal and air-contact degradation. The methodology is based on the induction times observed when the samples are contacted with pure oxygen at elevated pressures and temperatures. The results indicate different performances of the antioxidants as well as synergisms between antioxidants and biodiesel. In general, the addition of antioxidants increased from 6-15 times the stability of castor oil FAME., with BHA (butylated hydroxyanisol) showing the best results for improving antioxidation in castor oil biodiesel.  相似文献

Information technology companies have grown in size and recognized the need to protect their valuable assets. As a result, each IT application has its authentication mechanism, and an employee needs a username and password. As the number of applications increased, as a result, it became increasingly complex to manage all identities like the number of usernames and passwords of an employee. All identities had to be retrieved by users. Both the identities and the access rights associated with those identities had to be protected by an administrator. Management couldn’t even capture such access rights because they couldn’t verify things like privacy and security. Identity management can help solve this problem. The concept behind identity management is to centralize identity management and manage access identity centrally rather than multiple applications with their authentication and authorization mechanisms. In this research work, we develop governance and an identity management framework for information and technology infrastructures with privileged access management, consisting of cybersecurity policies and strategies. The results show the efficiency of the framework compared to the existing information security components. The integrated identity and access management and privileged access management enable organizations to respond to incidents and facilitate compliance. It can automate use cases that manage privileged accounts in the real world.  相似文献

This study examined the current governance system for Lake Buhi, Philippines. It describes stakeholder patterns of decision‐making, their roles in the decision‐making process based on their legal mandates, the manner of interactions, the sources of conflict and how these various issues are currently resolved. Stakeholders represent diverse interests, including irrigation, hydropower generation, fishery management and navigation. This study uses data generated from ten key informant interviews of the different stakeholders, information from five round table discussions, and secondary data and reports of various agencies. The results indicate that Lake Buhi and its watershed present classic man‐in‐nature governance challenges. The interplay of internal and external uncertainties regarding multiple uses results in a complex system that is difficult to effectively manage. Climate‐related hazards aggravate the pressures from activities within the lake watershed, complicating water allocation issues. The institutional arrangements that have emerged to address these challenges, however, appear to be fraught with overlaps, fragmentation and a lack of communication. It is thought these deficiencies could be addressed by establishing a lake basin council with representation from all the involved organizations, as well as any stakeholder groups not represented by organizations. The system of governance over the lake must address issues concerning water uses and access to the resource. The capacity of the organizations to participate in such an arrangement is weak, however, and capacity building is needed. The availability and sharing of data and information among stakeholders are also weak and must be strengthened if the work of the lake basin council is to be based on the best available information.  相似文献

Electronic cigarettes (ECIGs) heat and vaporize a liquid mixture to produce an inhalable aerosol that can deliver nicotine to the user. The liquid mixture is typically composed of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG), in which are dissolved trace quantities of flavorants and, usually, nicotine. Due to their different chemical and thermodynamic properties, the proportions of PG and VG in the liquid solution may affect nicotine delivery and user sensory experience. In social media and popular culture, greater PG fraction is associated with greater “throat-hit,” a sensation that has been attributed in cigarette smokers to increased presence of vapor-phase nicotine. VG, on the other hand, is associated with thicker and larger exhaled “clouds.” In this study, we aim to investigate how PG/VG ratio influences variables that relate to nicotine delivery and plume visibility. Aerosols from varying PG/VG liquids were generated using a digitally controlled vaping instrument and a commercially available ECIG, and analyzed for nicotine content by GC-MS. Particle mass and number distribution were determined using a six-stage cascade impactor and a fast particle spectrometer (TSI EEPS), with tightly controlled dilution and sampling biases. A Mie theory model was used to compute the aerosol scattering coefficients in the visible spectrum. Decreasing the PG/VG ratio resulted in a decrease in total particulate matter (TPM) and nicotine yield (R2 > 0.9, p < .0001). Measured particle count median diameter ranged between 44 and 97nm, and was significantly smaller for PG liquids. Although the particle mass concentration was lower, aerosols produced using liquids that contained VG had an order of magnitude greater light scattering coefficients. These findings indicate that PG/VG ratio is a strong determinant of both nicotine delivery and user sensory experience.
