The objective of this study was to evaluate the accuracy and precision of a magnetic position sensor system for acquisition of three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound images in volume estimation of phantoms in vitro. Installation of either 0.9% solution of saline at 37 degrees C or distilled water at 20 degrees C to a condom was performed. Scanning was performed either by a continuous or stepwise acquisition. This 3D ultrasound system demonstrated good correlation (r = 0.99-1.0, n = 8) between estimated (EV) and true volumes (TV). The errors were in the range 1.3%+/-0.3% (SEM) to 1.9%+/-0.6%, independent of sound velocity. Scanning through a porcine abdominal wall positioned at the fluid surface yielded a systematic underestimation of the volume: mean (EV - TV) = -7.2+/-0.8 ml. Eight repeated scans of the same volume yielded a coefficient of variation of 1.1%. Interobserver error of the tracing procedure was 2.6%+/-0.9%. This 3D ultrasound system gave high accuracy and precision in volume estimation in vitro, and yielded low interobserver error. A change in ultrasound velocity of approximately 60 m/s did not influence the accuracy significantly. Scanning through an abdominal wall underestimated volumes slightly.  相似文献

The mutual links between muscle pain and resting electromyographic (EMG) activity are still controversial. This study described effects of experimental muscle pain on resting EMG activity in a jaw-closing muscle and a leg muscle. Pain was induced by injections of hypertonic saline into the muscles in 10 subjects. Injections of isotonic saline served as a control. The pain intensity was scored on visual analog scales (VAS) and surface and intramuscular wire EMGs were obtained from the resting muscles before, during, and after saline injections. EMG activity was analyzed in 30-s intervals and demonstrated, in both muscles, significant increases 30-60 s after injection of hypertonic saline, but not after injection of isotonic saline. In contrast to the transient increase in EMG activity, the pain sensation lasted up to 600 s after injection of hypertonic saline. It was concluded that acute muscle pain is unable to maintain longer-lasting resting muscle hyperactivity.  相似文献

A trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of including different levels of deoxynivalenol (DON)-contaminated oats in the complete diets of growing pigs on immune response and performance. The diets contained 0.6, 1.8 and 4.7 mg DON/kg, and both restricted and ad libitum feeding were used. Performance was recorded as weight gain, feed intake, efficiency of feed utilization and carcass quality. Immune response parameters recorded included primary and secondary antibody titres after injections of five different antigens: Human serum albumin (HSA), sheep red blood cells (SRBC), paratuberculosis vaccine (MPT), tetanus toxoid (TT) and diphteria toxoid (DT). A johnin test was also performed. Lymphocyte stimulation response was measured with three different mitogens (PWM, ConA and PHA). A significant, DON dose-dependent reduction in secondary antibody response to tetanus toxoid was observed. A slightly higher mitogen response after PHA stimulation in lymphocytes from the medium and high DON groups compared to the low DON group after 9 weeks was considered inconclusive. No other indication of dose-dependent immune response inhibition or stimulation was found. Significantly reduced feed intake with increased levels of DON was observed in groups fed restricted rations according to weight, but not in animals fed ad libitum.  相似文献

In this study we investigated the effect of human experimental muscle pain on H- and stretch reflexes as indicators of changes in muscle spindle sensitivity. Fourteen healthy, male volunteers participated in the study. Muscle pain was produced by infusion of 5% hypertonic saline over a period of 10-15 min in m. soleus and in m. tibialis anterior. Reflexes were elicited in the relaxed and active soleus muscle (10-15 Nm ankle torque) before, during and after muscle pain. Control measurements were made with infusions of 0.9% isotonic saline. Surface electromyograms (EMG) were measured from the soleus muscle, and torque was measured from the ankle joint. With pain in the soleus muscle the mechanical stretch reflex response (ankle torque) increased significantly (P = 0.0007) as compared to before pain. With pain in the tibialis anterior muscle both the mechanical and EMG responses increased significantly (P = 0.001; P = 0.0003) as compared to before pain. The H-reflex showed no significant changes during the infusions in either muscles. This study has demonstrated a muscle pain-related increase in the amplitude of the stretch reflex without a corresponding increase in the H-reflex amplitude. One explanation could be an increased dynamic sensitivity of the muscle spindles during muscle pain caused by an increased firing rate in the dynamic gamma-motoneurones. However, the data could not support the vicious cycle model because the excitability of the alpha-motoneurone pool was unchanged.  相似文献

Naval Material Research Laboratory (NMRL), based on the firm confidence of her core competence on material development, started an ambitious program on development of fuel cells for various Defense and non-Defense application in early nineties. The primary emphasis of this program is to develop phosphoric acid fuel cell (PAFC) based power plants integrated with hydrogen generators along with other accessories. In the process of development, it is understood that online generation of hydrogen from a liquid fuel is the key to success. Methanol, a liquid fuel, can be reformed easily with few side products and the resultant hydrogen rich reformer gas can be directly fed to a PAFC. Such configuration keeps the basic system simple and free of complicated filters and instrumentation.NMRL has developed a series of catalytic burners with high efficiency as the primary heat transfer source from the hot catalytic surface is based on conduction rather than convection as is done normally. Vaporizer is a coiled arrangement and reformer is hollow sections filled with Cu/Al2O3/ZnO catalyst, and the same is integrated with catalytic burners. Such arrangement is modular in nature and each reformer has hydrogen generation capacity of 90 lpm and start-up time is around half an hour. Modular design of reformer reactor allow them to used in different capacity plants such as a 2 kW plant configured with a reformer reactor with two vaporizer and 15 kW plant configured with seven nos. of reformer reactors and seven no. of vaporizer. The waste heat of the fuel cell and the same from the reformer burner flue is used to meet most of the reformer heat load. The catalytic burner of the reformer burns both waste hydrogen and methanol with very little excess air. PAFC being tolerant to CO (up to 1%) can be directly operated with the hydrogen rich reformer gas and the lean gas from the fuel cell is burnt into the reformer system.The raw DC output power is converted into either 100 VDC or 220 V single phase, 50 Hz sinusoidal AC power through appropriate power electronics. These configurations give overall efficiency of the plant to around 35-40 % based on LHV of Hydrogen. A battery bank is also incorporated to cater for the plant start-up and other temporary auxiliary power which get charged from the fuel cell output. Such configuration lead to the development of methanol reformer integrated PAFC based power plants of capacity ranging from 2 kW to 15 kW. The system is designed for continuous power production in the field. These plants are suitable for remote area, distributed power generation and application such as battery charging, domestic load etc.  相似文献

The effect of antibodies to Fc subfragments of guinea pig IgG on the anaphylactic reaction in guinea pigs has been studied. Control animals were immunized with guinea pig IgG and Fab, human IgG and albumin. All animals with antibodies to fragments of autologous Fc survived challenge with horse serum, whereas the control animals died in anaphylactic shock.  相似文献

Studied the relationship of note taking and review to retention of information presented by lecture. Performance of 172 undergraduates was measured immediately and/or 1 wk following the lecture by free recall and verbatim and paraphrase completion tests. Taking and reviewing notes yielded maximum retention and recall efficiency, while listening-only without review resulted in poorest performance. The benefit of note taking appeared to be derived from having an opportunity to subsequently review notes, and not from the act of note taking itself. It is important to determine the severity of valvular regurgitation accurately because surgery is indicated only in severe regurgitations. The evaluation of, for example, mitral regurgitation is complex, and the current methods have limitations. We have developed a 3-D Doppler method to estimate the cross-sectional area and the geometry of a regurgitant jet at the vena contracta just downstream from the actual orifice. The back-scattered Doppler signal from multiple beams distributed over the area of interest was measured. The received power from these beams was then calibrated using both a priori knowledge of the lateral extent of the beams and a reference beam that was completely enclosed by the vena contracta. To isolate the Doppler signal received from the core of a regurgitant jet, a high pulse repetition frequency and a steep clutter filter are required. The method has been implemented and verified by computer simulations and by in vitro experiments using a pulsatile flow phantom and prosthetic valves with a range of holes. We were able to distinguish between mild, moderate, and severe valvular regurgitation. We were also able to quantify the regurgitational area as well as show the geometry of the regurgitation.  相似文献

Transfer of maternal IgG through the human placenta furnishes the newborn with passive immunity to a number of infectious agents. The exact mechanism of this transfer is still unknown, but it is agreed that it involves active receptor-mediated transport. The neonatal Fc receptor is a major histocompatibility complex class I-like receptor originally identified in the intestines of newborn rodents. A similar receptor has recently been detected in human placental syncytiotrophoblasts. Using multilabeling fluorescence immunohistochemistry and confocal laser scanning microscopy, we found that the neonatal Fc receptor co-localizes with IgG and beta 2-microglobulin in granules of human placental syncytiotrophoblast. The Fc receptor is not detected on syncytiotrophoblast apical plasma membrane. Localization to the outermost cellular barrier between the fetal and maternal blood further strengthens the role of the Fc receptor in transplacental transport of IgG.  相似文献

The specificity of the Fcgamma receptors in normal spleen and liver and in malignant tissues was studied using hemadsorption to cryostat sections. Indicator cells (EA) were sheep erythrocytes (E) sensitized with rabbit IgG antibody (A). The binding of EA to sections of normal and malignant tissues was inhibited by pooled IgG of human, rabbit, and guinea pig origin and by human IgG1, and IgG3, and IgG4 myeloma proteins. Heat-aggregated IgG inhibited the binding to sections of liver and some malignant tissues more effectively than monomeric IgG. The Fc fragments of IgG were also inhibitory, but not the F(ab')2, Fab', and Facb fragments. The inhibition obtained increased with decreasing amounts of A used for sensitization of E. The inhibitory activity of IgG was abolished after partial reduction and alkylation. No inhibition was obtained with IgG2, IgM, IgA, or albumin. E sensitized with Facb or F(ab')2 fragments of A did not bind to normal or malignant tissues. The specificity of the Fc receptors in normal spleen and liver and in malignant tissues is apparently very similar.  相似文献
