In this study chick embryo optic cups at HH stage 13 of development were analyzed under normal conditions and after inoculation with colchicine for 1, 2, 4, and 8 h. Several changes were seen after these periods of treatment: 1) modifications of the structure, with thicker regions in the cup and a general decrease in the total volume according to the duration of exposure to the drug (about 4 times less than normal, 5,035 x 10(3) microns 3 vs 1,334 x 10(3) microns 3 after 8 h of treatment); 2) enlargement of the ventricular cavity and its closure, due to failure of approximation of retinal and pigmentary layers; 3) failure of lens development, with delay and impairment of pit formation and deformation of all structures; lens volume was less than normal (about 4 times less, 2,148 x 10(3) microns 3 vs 658 x 10(3) microns 3 after 8 h of treatment); 4) a general segregation of the cells making up the structure, principally in the more active proliferating zones. The thermal and mechanical properties and the morphologies of blends of poly(propylene) (PP) and an ethylene–(vinyl alcohol) copolymer (EVOH) and of blends of PP/EVOH/ethylene–(methacrylic acid)–Zn2+ ionomer were studied to establish the influence of the ionomer addition on the compatibilization of PP/EVOH blends and on their properties. The oxygen transmission rate (O2TR) values of the blends were measured as well. PP and EVOH are initially incompatible as was determined by tensile tests and scanning electronic microscopy. Addition of the ionomer Zn2+ led to good compatibility and mechanical behaviour was improved in all blends. The mechanical properties on extruded films were studied for 90/10 and 80/20 w/w PP/EVOH blends compatibilized with 10 % of ionomer Zn2+. These experiments have shown that the tensile properties are better than in the injection‐moulded samples. The stretching during the extrusion improved the compatibility of the blends, diminishing the size of EVOH domains and enhancing their distribution in the PP matrix. As was to be expected, the EVOH improved the oxygen permeation of the films, even in compatibilized blends. Copyright © 2004 Society of Chemical Industry 相似文献

This article reports on the performance of audio, video, multimedia, and other high-data-rate in-home networking applications. The article starts by describing the problems encountered in power line communication channels in terms of frequency response and noise characteristics, and explains how in-home power line LANs can be extended to the neighborhood transformer. OFDM physical layers providing speeds of 45 Mb/s and 200 Mb/s as well as QoS and security are introduced. Finally, the results of large tests involving several thousands of nodes are described. 相似文献

In this paper, a new data‐driven fault‐detection method is proposed. This method is based on a new nonparametric system identification approach, which constitutes the principal contribution to this work. The fault‐detection method is a parametric model‐free approach that can be applied to nonlinear systems that work at various operating points. Not only can the fault‐detection process be applied to the steady state of each operating point, but it can also be applied to the transient state resulting from a change in the operating point. In order to detect faults, the proposed method uses an interval predictor based on bounded‐error techniques. The utilization of techniques based on bounded error enables system uncertainties to be included in an explicit way. This in turn leads to the possibility of obtaining interval predictions of the behaviour of the system, which include information on the reliability of the prediction itself. In order to show the effectiveness of the fault‐detection method, two examples are presented: in the form of a simulated process (counter‐flow shell‐and‐tube heat‐exchanger system) and an example of a real application (two‐tanks system). One of the most common effects among aphasia patients is the difficulty to recall names or words. Typically, word retrieval problems can be treated through word naming therapeutic exercises. In fact, the frequency and the intensity of speech therapy are key factors in the recovery of lost communication functionalities. In this sense, speech and language technology can have a relevant contribution in the development of automatic therapy methods. In this work, we present an on-line system designed to behave as a virtual therapist incorporating automatic speech recognition technology that permits aphasia patients to perform word naming training exercises. We focus on the study of the automatic word naming detector module and on its utility for both global evaluation and treatment. For that purpose, a database consisting of word naming therapy sessions of aphasic Portuguese native speakers has been collected. In spite of the different patient characteristics and speech quality conditions of the collected data, encouraging results have been obtained thanks to a calibration method that makes use of the patients’ word naming ability to automatically adapt to the patients’ speech particularities. 相似文献

The combination of electrospinning technology and nanomaterials such as nanoclays can synergistically lead to novel materials with enhanced properties and functionalities for their usage in passive and active packaging applications. Part I of this work was focused on the development of ultrathin zein fibers containing nanoclays, which were oriented along the fiber axis and increased the thermal properties. Part II presents the use of the hybrid fibers as passive and active components in multilayer packaging structures. The hybrid fibers are incorporated in poly(lactic acid) films via a two‐step process: Electrospinning and compression molding. The composites thus produced presented improved mechanical and barrier properties than the unfilled material. The natural biocide extract thymol is then incorporated in the coating, and its sustained release properties are shown. The effect of a sodium ionomer (ion.Na+) on the compatibility of polypropylene (PP)/high‐barrier ethylene–vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH) blends was studied in terms of the thermal, mechanical, and optical properties and morphology. The rheological behavior, tensile tests, and morphology of the binary blends showed that the miscibility of EVOH with PP was very poor. The miscibility of the polymers improved with the ionomer addition. In general, the ion.Na+ concentration did not alter the thermal behavior of the blends, but it did improve the ductility of the injection‐molded specimens. Scanning electron micrographs displayed better adhesion between the PP and EVOH phases in the samples with the ionomer. The mechanical improvement was better in the film samples than in the injection‐molded samples. A 90/10 (w/w) PP/EVOH film with 5% ion.Na+ and an 80/20 (w/w) PP/EVOH film with 10% ion.Na+ presented better global properties than the other blends studied. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
