A roll-coating experimental system is used to study the effect of pre-wetting on dynamic contact angles, the interfacial displacement depth, and the associated phenomenon of air entrainment. The system consists of a roll, which is horizontally rotating in a liquid pool. The dynamic contact angle is recorded by a macrophotography system. The test liquids are glycerol solutions with viscosities in the range 104 < μ < 748 mPa · s. The value of (μV/ρg)0.5 is taken as the characteristic length to be used in the dimensionless relationships which correlate experimental measurements. The effect of base layer entry angle into the liquid pool on the dynamic contact angles and other flow parameters is studied. Comparison is made with measurements in dry tape-coating and other pre-wet roll–coating systems.  相似文献

Plasticized samples of chlorinated polyvinylchloride (CPVC) were investigated by using thermogravimetric (TG) analysis and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Three different plasticizers were studied, namely, dioctyl phthalate (DOP), alkyldiaryl phosphate ester (Santiciser 2148), and triaryl phosphate ester (Reofos 50). TG experiments in nitrogen showed one major decomposition stage, involving dehydrochlorination, and minor pyrolysis reaction of the hydrocarbon residue. In contrast to the three stages previously reported to occur in the nonplasticized‐stabilized CPVC, TG analyses in air showed two distinctive decomposition stages for the plasticized CPVC samples. The DOP system provided a suggestion of a third stage. The first decomposition stage was due not only to the loss of all the chlorine present, but also to loss of the plasticizer or its decomposition products. The second decomposition stage was mostly due to char oxidation, the char being formed almost exclusively from the DCE and VDC units in CPVC polymer. DSC results showed that in the presence of nitrogen, there was no significant plasticizer effect on the thermal decomposition behavior of CPVC up to about 330°C, while in air the DSC traces also show no significant differences below 400°C. The two phosphate plasticizers showed no significant differences in their effect on the thermal decomposition behavior of CPVC under the same experimental conditions. It is believed that P2O5 and polyphosphoric acid are among the main constituents of the residua. These would impart a protective glassy surface to the char. This will facilitate effective flame retardant action. This preliminary conclusion is based on the premise that the more stable the char layers are, the more resilient will be the protective layer, and consequently, the better the flame retardant effect. Collocation methods are developed for the solution of some differential equation models for transport phenomena problems in one-and two-dimensions in co-axial annuli of spherical and cylindrical shapes. General formulae are developed to obtain orthogonal polynomials over an arbitrary interval using two types of weighting functions. The convergence and accuracy of the methods are demonstrated using two test problems, i.e., calculation of effectiveness factors in (a) a spherical pellet with peripherally deposited catalyst and (b) a Raschig ring type cylindrical catalyst pellet. Comparisons of results obtained from the present methods with analytic solutions for the first-order reactions indicate good agreement. Numerical solutions are also obtained for the second-and the third-order reactions for which analytic solutions are not available. Results obtained in terms of a new Thiele modulus involving the ratio of volume of peripherally deposited part of catalyst to exterior surface area indicate that this normalization brings effectiveness factor versus Thiele modulus curves close together for co-axial spherical and long cylindrical pellets, as it does for these geometries without the inner co-axial portion.  相似文献

In recent years, although an increasing number of literature have been devoted to circulating fluidized bed (CFB), the prediction of velocities over which different fluidization regimes exist is still difficult. In this study, a transient method was applied which readily allows one to identify operational features and critical transitions. The method is based on stopping the solids flow rate into the riser when riser is operating in fully dense transport regime. The analysis of transient pressure drop data across the riser during a solids flow cut-off experiment against its time derivative demonstrate the three distinct operating regimes that exist as the gas deplete the solid out of the riser. The transient was compared to data taken under steady state operations using statistically designed experiments. Results indicated that although there were significant differences when comparing operations in dilute conditions, there were no significant differences between the two methods in the fast fluidized and dense transport regimes. The transient method was capable of reproducing the solids circulation dependence on riser solids holdup and on the axial pressure profile. This transient method offers an accurate, easy, rapid, and reproducible means of characterizing CFB operations over a wide range of flow conditions. The lack of accuracy in the dilute regime is conjectured to be due to the wide particle size distribution that resulted in segregation during the transient testing.  相似文献

Styrene as a monomer was emulsified in water using several magnetite nanoparticles concentration and pH values. Emulsified styrene drops were used as templates for polymerization, in presence of water soluble free radical initiator, and formation of composite particles. Styrene template drops stabilization was verified by light as well as scanning electron microscopy imaging, which ensured the participation of the particles in building up a mechanical barrier to stop oil drops coalescence. Furthermore, the produced polystyrene composites were strongly attracted to an external magnet. The difference in particles size as a function of pH was elucidated using zeta potential measurements, which indicated dominance of pH on the hydrophilicity of the particles and consequently the extent of emulsification, which in turn affected the size of the obtained microspheres. Under some circumstances, capsules were formed instead of particles. Thereby, it can be concluded that the magnetic microspheres are optimally formed at pH 2.3 independently of the magnetite content used.  相似文献

In this paper, we draw upon portfolio analysis to develop and implement a strategic decision making model. We consider the limitations and problems of classic portfolio analysis approach and resolve these problems by using fuzzy set theory. In the proposed method, both internal and external factors are evaluated in linguistic terms and in terms of fuzzy triangular numbers. The fuzzy numbers are fed into an industry attractiveness-business analysis matrix. The novelty of the proposed approach comes from the fact that fuzzy numbers are processed without using conventional methods, allowing for strategies to be ranked.  相似文献

Physico-chemical water quality parameters and nutrient levels such as water temperature, turbidity, saturated oxygen, dissolved oxygen, pH, chlorophyll-a, salinity, conductivity, total nitrogen and total phosphorus, were measured from April to September 2011 in the Karaj dam area, Iran. Total nitrogen in water was modelled using an artificial neural network system. In the proposed system, water temperature, depth, saturated oxygen, dissolved oxygen, pH, chlorophyll-a, salinity, turbidity and conductivity were considered as input data, and the total nitrogen in water was considered as output. The weights and biases for various systems were obtained by the quick propagation, batch back propagation, incremental back propagation, genetic and Levenberg-Marquardt algorithms. The proposed system uses 144 experimental data points; 70% of the experimental data are randomly selected for training the network and 30% of the data are used for testing. The best network topology was obtained as (9-5-1) using the quick propagation method with tangent transform function. The average absolute deviation percentages (AAD%) are 2.329 and 2.301 for training and testing processes, respectively. It is emphasized that the results of the artificial neural network (ANN) model are compatible with the experimental data.  相似文献
