Fuzzy neural network with general parameter adaptation for modelingof nonlinear time-series

By taking advantage of fuzzy systems and neural networks, a fuzzy-neural network with a general parameter (GP) learning algorithm and heuristic model structure determination is proposed in this paper. Our network model is based on the Gaussian radial basis function network (RBFN). We use the flexible GP approach both for initializing the off-line training algorithm and fine-tuning the nonlinear model efficiently in online operation. A modification of the robust unbiasedness criterion using distorter (UCD) is utilized for selecting the structural parameters of this adaptive model. The UCD approach provides the desired modeling accuracy and avoids the risk of over-fitting. In order to illustrate the operation of the proposed modeling scheme, it is experimentally applied to a fault detection application.     

Measurements of the orthogonal magnetic components of the pulse component of infralow and very low electromagnetic fields at svalbard

A complex of equipment for recording three components H _x , H _y , and H _z of the pulse component of an electromagnetic field in the range of infralow-very low frequencies, which is incorporated in the geophysical observatory of the Polar Geophysical Institute (Barentzburg, Spitsbergen archipelago), is described. The complex operates under the control of the Linux operational system and is integrated in the local observatory computer network, thus providing both the remote access to data and the GPS time synchronization. The use of buffer transformers in both the signal circuit and the circuit for connection to the collective observatory supply line made it possible to improve the electromagnetic compatibility of this complex with the main instruments of the observatory. The technique for conducting the absolute calibration of the equipment is described.

Rodent thyroid gland function under hot climatic conditions

Studies have been made on the effect of high temperature and intensive insolation upon the uptake of iodide and hormone formation in the thyroid of rodents (Rhombomys opimus, Spermophilopsis leptodactylus, Citellus fulvus) with different adaptation to the environment. It was shown that high temperature in combination with solar radiation significantly decreases functional activity of the thyroid and affects some of the physiological indices of the organism. Animals with different ecological specialization differ in their reaction to factors of the hot climate.     

Loss and dynamic magnetic field measurements in LHC dipoles

Knowledge of AC loss and dynamic magnetic field distortion in the main LHC dipoles is both important for the assessment of the accelerator performance and providing insight into the properties of assembled magnets. We measured the loss due to the current cycling in a few 1-meter long model dipoles, 15-meter long dipole prototypes and pre-series magnets. As expected the loss depends linearly on the rate of the current change. From the slope of this dependence, the contact resistance between the strands of the opposite layers of the cable, R/sub c/, was evaluated for the inner winding of the dipole. We discuss the method to estimate the R/sub c/ value in the outer winding. The R/sub c/ value has been also derived independently from measurements of the magnetic field. For this, the ramp rate dependent component of the main field as well as of the harmonics has been measured. The main magnetic field measurements were performed using both stationary coils and Hall probes. Rotating coils were used to perform the harmonic measurements.

Almost all wood materials — for construction and repair of railroads, for the mining industry, for telephone and electric power poles — must be protected from rotting, that is preserved to increase the lifetime. The Russian economy is suffering enormous material losses because of the insufficiently serious attitude toward this problem.
