The bit error rate (BER) performance of equalised I-Q quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) is evaluated for wideband cellular systems. Decision feedback equalisation with the square-root Kalman updating algorithm is employed for I-Q coded systems. A gain of about 6 dB is achieved in favour of the I-Q scheme compared with the conventional Gray-mapped QPSK at a BER of 10-3  相似文献

This paper considers the use of sequence maximum a posteriori (MAP) decoding of trellis codes. A MAP receiver can exploit any “residual redundancy” that may exist in the channel encoded signal in the form of memory and/or a nonuniform distribution, thereby providing enhanced performance over very noisy channels, relative to maximum likelihood (ML) decoding. The paper begins with a first-order two-state Markov model for the channel encoder input. A variety of different systems with different source parameters, different modulation schemes, and different encoder complexities are simulated. Sequence MAP decoding is shown to substantially improve performance under very noisy channel conditions for systems with low-to-moderate redundancy, with relative gain increasing as the rate increases. As a result, coding schemes with multidimensional constellations are shown to have higher MAP gains than comparable schemes with two-dimensional (2-D) constellations. The second part of the paper considers trellis encoding of the code-excited linear predictive (CELP) speech coder's line spectral parameters (LSPs) with four-dimensional (4-D) QPSK modulation. Two source LSP models are used. One assumes only intraframe correlation of LSPs while the second one models both intraframe and interframe correlation. MAP decoding gains (over ML decoding) as much as 4 dB are achieved. Also, a comparison between the conventionally designed codes and an I-Q QPSK scheme shows that the I-Q scheme achieves better performance even though the first (sampler) LSP model is used  相似文献

Coherent trellis-coded modulation (TCM) systems employing diversity combining are analyzed. Three different kinds of combining are considered: maximal ratio, equal gain, and selection combining (SC). First, the cutoff rate parameter is derived for equal gain combining (EGG) and SC assuming transmission over a fully interleaved channel with flat slow Rayleigh fading, which permits comparison with previously derived results for maximal ratio combining (MRC). Then, tight upper bounds on the pairwise error probabilities are derived for all three combining techniques. These upper bounds are expressed in product form to permit bounding of the bit error rate (BER) via the transfer function approach. In each case, it is assumed that the diversity branches are independent and that the channel state information (CSI) can be recovered perfectly. Also included is an analysis of MRC when the diversity branches are correlated-the cutoff rate and a tight upper bound on the pairwise error probability are derived. It is shown that with double diversity a branch correlation coefficient as high as 0.5 results in only slight performance degradation  相似文献

An unequal error protection approach for the reliable communication of visual information over additive white Gaussian noise channels is proposed and studied. This method relies on a bandwidth-efficient coded modulation scheme that employs selective channel coding and transmission energy allocation in conjunction with sequence maximum a posteriori soft-decision detection. Experimental results indicate that this scheme exhibits graceful performance degradation as the channel conditions deteriorate and provides substantial objective and subjective improvements over uncoded and equal-error protection systems. Coding gains of up to 4 dB in Eb /No are achieved  相似文献

This paper presents some trellis codes that provide high coding gain to channels with slow, non frequency-selective Rayleigh fading. It is shown that the use of two encoders in parallel-used to specify the in-phase and quadrature components of the transmitted signal-results in greater minimum time diversity than the conventional design in which a single encoder is used. Using this approach-which we label “I-Q TCM”-codes with bandwidth efficiencies of 1, 2, and 3 bits/s/Hz are described for various constraint lengths. The performance of these codes is bounded analytically and approximated via simulation; the results show a large improvement in the bit error rate (BER) when compared with conventional trellis-coded modulation (TCM) schemes when perfect channel state information (CSI) is available to the receiver. Indeed, when this approach is applied to channels with independent Rayleigh fading, the resulting coding gain is close to that implied by the cutoff rate limit, even for only moderately complex systems. The proposed codes are also simulated under less ideal assumptions. For instance, results for a 1-bit/s/Hz IQ-TCM code without CSI show a significant gain over conventional coding. Finally, simulations over channels with correlated fading were undertaken; it is concluded that an interleaver span of 4ν yields performance close to what is achieved with ideal interleaving  相似文献

It is known that concatenated coding can significantly enhance the performance of digital communication systems operating over fading channels when compared to uncoded or single-coded systems. The price to be paid for such an improvement, however, is a substantial increase in the required bandwidth. In this paper, we consider the use of a concatenation scheme in which the inner code is a trellis-coded modulation (TCM) system. The analysis is carried out for two different outer codes: a binary Golay code and a non-binary Reed-Solomon code. Results obtained for the Rayleigh and Rician fading channels through analytical bounds indicate that the use of this system does provide a significant reduction in the bit error probability, a fact that is also verified through computer simulation. Unlike a traditional concatenated system, the proposed method achieves the coding gain while maintaining acceptable bandwidth efficiency.  相似文献

The channel throughput of the slotted ALOHA protocol is evaluated for a Nakagami fading channel model. General expressions for different values of the fading figure m and receiver capture ratio are presented. Evaluations of these expressions show that the throughput increases as the fade depth increases  相似文献

The throughput performance of slotted ALOHA in radio environments characterised by Nakagami fading and the user spatial distribution is analysed. The effect of shadowing on Nakagami fading is also evaluated and generalised throughput expressions are presented  相似文献
