The effect of modifying the particle/matrix interfacial region on the morphology and tensile behaviour of glass bead-filled polypropylene (PP) composites was studied. The interface modification was promoted by blending PP with a small concentration (5% by weight) of poly(ethylene terephthalate-co-isophthalate) (co-PET). Ten different PP/co-PET/glass beads ternary composites were prepared, characterized and compared with the homologous PP/glass beads binary ones. Maleic anhydride-grafted PP was added as a compatibilizing agent for PP and co-PET in some of the studied formulations, and its effect studied. Furthermore, four different silane-treated glass beads were used to prepare the composites (50 wt.%). Results showed that three different interfaces, corresponding to three different levels (low, middle and high) of particle/matrix adhesion, could be obtained in these composites by varying the matrix composition and the silane coupling agent on the glass bead surface, which resulted in a wide range of tensile properties, from ductile composites with low tensile strength and high elongation to brittle ones with high tensile strength. It was found that co-PET embeds glass bead surface independently of the silane coupling agent employed. Finally, the adhesion degree differences between the different composite phases seemed to be the main cause to explain the differences found in the sensitivity of the composite tensile characteristics to the strain rate.  相似文献

1. The effects of NF023, the symmetrical 3'-urea of 8-(benzamido)naphthalene-1,3,5-trisulphonic acid), and its parent compound suramin were investigated on vasoconstrictor responses to alpha, beta-methylene ATP in rabbit isolated saphenous artery and vasodilator responses to ATP in noradrenaline-precontracted rabbit isolated thoracic aorta. 2. In rabbit isolated saphenous artery, alpha, beta-methylene ATP-induced vasoconstrictor responses via P2X-receptors were concentration-dependently and competitively antagonised by NF023 (30-300 microM; pA2 = 5.69 +/- 0.04). Suramin (100-1000 microM) also competitively blocked vasoconstrictor responses to alpha, beta-methylene ATP, albeit with lower potency (pA2 = 4.79 +/- 0.05). In contrast, NF023 (100 microM) did not significantly affect contractile responses to noradrenaline or histamine in the saphenous artery. 3. In noradrenaline-precontracted rabbit isolated thoracic aorta preparations, ATP (3-3000 microM) concentration-dependently induced relaxations via endothelium-dependent or smooth muscle P2Y-receptor subtypes. NF023 (30-300 microM) failed to block relaxant responses to ATP at endothelium-dependent P2Y-receptors, whereas suramin (100-1000 microM) did antagonise endothelium-dependent vasodilator responses to ATP. Neither NF023 (100 microM) nor suramin (300 microM) influenced vasorelaxant responses to ATP via endothelium-independent P2Y-receptors. 4. In conclusion, this study outlines the selectivity of NF023 as an effective P2X-receptor antagonist in rabbit isolated blood vessels without affecting endothelium-dependent or endothelium-independent P2Y-receptor subtypes, adrenoceptors or histamine receptors.  相似文献

High‐density polyethylene (HDPE)/hydrotalcite nanocomposites were prepared and characterized with a partially neutralized sodium ionomer of poly(ethylene‐co‐methacrylic acid) (EMAA) as a compatibilizer. Moreover, nanocomposites based on this ionomer were characterized as patterns to analyze the interactions between the hydrotalcite sheets and the methacrylic groups on the ionomer. Hydrotalcite particles were organically modified with sodium dodecyl sulfate ions. Their presence in the interlayer space was confirmed by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X‐ray diffraction (XRD). Morphological analysis carried out with XRD and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed the partially exfoliated/intercalated structure achieved in the nanocomposites. The mechanical properties of the HDPE nanocomposites mainly depended on the nature of the polymer matrix. Higher values of the tensile strength and Young's modulus were found in the EMAA nanocomposites. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that hydrotalcite particles improved the thermal stability and delayed the onset decomposition temperature of both HDPE and EMAA nanocomposites. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Early colonization by Zyginidia scutellaris leafhoppers might be a key factor in the attraction and settling of generalist predators, such as Orius spp., in maize fields. In this paper, we aimed to determine whether our observations of early season increases in field populations of Orius spp. reflect a specific attraction to Z. scutellaris-induced maize volatiles, and how the responses of Orius predators to herbivore-induced volatiles (HIPVs) might be affected by previous experiences on plants infested by herbivorous prey. Therefore, we examined the innate and learned preferences of Orius majusculus toward volatiles from maize plants attacked by three potential herbivores with different feeding strategies: the leafhopper Z. scutellaris (mesophyll feeder), the lepidopteran Spodoptera littoralis (chewer), and another leafhopper Dalbulus maidis (phloem feeder). In addition, we examined the volatile profiles emitted by maize plants infested by the three herbivores. Our results show that predators exhibit a strong innate attraction to volatiles from maize plants infested with Z. scutellaris or S. littoralis. Previous predation experience in the presence of HIPVs influences the predator’s odor preferences. The innate preference for plants with cell or tissue damage may be explained by these plants releasing far more volatiles than plants infested by the phloem-sucking D. maidis. However, a predation experience on D. maidis-infested plants increased the preference for D. maidis-induced maize volatiles. After O. majusculus experienced L3-L4 larvae (too large to serve as prey) on S. littoralis-infested plants, they showed reduced attraction toward these plants and an increased attraction toward D. maidis-infested plants. When offered young larvae of S. littoralis, which are more suitable prey, preference toward HIPVs was similar to that of naive individuals. The HIPVs from plants infested by herbivores with distinctly different feeding strategies showed distinguishable quantitative differences in (Z)-3-hexenal, (E)-2-hexenal, and methyl salicylate. These compounds might serve as reliable indicators of prey presence and identity for the predator. Our results support the idea that feeding by Z. scutellaris results in the emission of maize’s HIPVs that initially recruit Orius spp. into maize fields.  相似文献

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MODIS) has been designated as a facility instrument on the first NASA polar orbiting platform as part of the Earth Observing System (Eos) and is scheduled for launch in the late 1990s. The near-global daily coverage of MODIS, combined with its continuous operation, broad spectral coverage, and relatively high spatial resolution, makes it central to the objectives of Eos. The development, implementation, production, and validation of the core MODIS data products define a set of functional, performance, and operational requirements on the data system that operate between the sensor measurements and the data products supplied to the user community. The science requirements guiding the processing of MODIS data are reviewed, and the aspects of an operations concept for the production of data products from MODIS for use by the scientific community are discussed  相似文献

Combined effects of clay treatment and compatibilizer polymers on the structure and properties of polypropylene/clay nanocomposites were studied. Dynamic mechanical analysis was used to analyze comparatively the dynamic mechanical response of different nanocomposites prepared from polypropylene and montmorillonite‐rich bentonite, and to relate such response with the material microstructure. Two different bentonites were used: a purified Spanish natural bentonite was organophillized by means of 11‐undecyl‐ammonium ion and a commercial bentonite organophillized with dimethyl dehydrogenated tallow ammonium ion. Three different polar copolymers were employed as compatibilizer agents in some of the formulations: maleic anhydride‐grafted polypropylene, maleic anhydride‐grafted poly(styrene‐co‐ethylenebutylene‐co‐styrene), and poly(ethylene terephthalate‐co‐isophthalate) (PET). To ascertain the microstructure characteristics in the nanocomposites, wide angle X‐ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry techniques were used. The nanocomposites containing both bentonite organophillized with 11‐undecyl‐ammonium ion and PET, and maleated PP as compatibilizer system, were found to have the highest storage modulus and the smallest loss factor values, which was mainly due to the better clay platelets dispersion. The dynamic mechanical response of nanocomposites prepared with bentonite organophillized with dimethyl dehydrogenated tallow ammonium ion and maleated SEBS was strongly affected by the presence of this compatibilizer. The temperature of PP and α, β, and γ relaxations strongly depended on the interactions between the different phases in the nanocomposites. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This study analyzes the level of co-authorship of Spanish research in Library and Information Science (LIS) until 2009, the chronological development that has taken place, and the level of local, domestic and international cooperation. This bibliometric study was made using the data retrieved from the Web of Knowledge (WoK) following a dual strategy—on the one hand through the filter of the category Information Science & Library Science, and on the other hand through a subject search. In this way a significant number of works has been retrieved, some of which are in journals indexed in SCI or A&HCI and not in the SSCI. The results show a significant increase in all co-authorship, including publications in English and those involving international collaboration. As with the increase in Spanish participation in social science (WoK), this growth, coupled with the significant increase in Spanish scientific production in the area of LIS, suggests that the discipline in Spain has entered a more mature phase—although so far it has focused particularly on bibliometric studies.  相似文献

An early optimisation of the o-phthaldialdehyde (OPA) method for the HPLC-fluorimetric analysis of amino acids in honey and bee-pollen made feasible the quantification of 23, which included five infrequently searched for. Forty samples of monovarietal dark honeys, from four botanical origins, were analysed for their amino acids’ profile (which included proline) and their colour. In order to test for their botanical classification stepwise linear discriminant analysis was applied to a number of variables made from a selection of analytical results and simple mathematical functions of them. This allowed, firstly, distinguishing honeys from these four botanical sources with 85.0% cross-validated grouped cases correctly classified. A second application was made for the group of honeydew honeys—a matter of particular interest since no chemical or microscopic method exists for the honeys from holm oak and oak. Ninety-five percent of the cross-validated samples were correctly classified, only one sample was misclassified.  相似文献

A citation analysis was carried out on the most important research journals in the field of Catalan literature between 1974 and 2003. The indicators and qualitative parameters obtained show the value of performing citation analysis in cultural and linguistic areas that are poorly covered by the A&HCI. Catalan literature shows a similar pattern to that of humanities in general, but it could still be in a stage of consolidation because too little work has as yet been published.  相似文献
