In this study the effects of high temperature and moisture on the impact damage resistance and mechanical strength of Nextel 610/alumina silicate ceramic matrix composites were experimentally evaluated. Composite laminates were exposed to either a 1050°C isothermal furnace-based environment for 30 consecutive days at 6 h a day, or 95% relative humidity environment for 13 consecutive days at 67°C. Low velocity impact, tensile and short beam strength tests were performed on both ambient and environmentally conditioned laminates and damage was characterized using a combination of non-destructive and destructive techniques. High temperature and humidity environmental exposure adversely affected the impact resistance of the composite laminates. For all the environments, planar internal damage area was greater than the back side dent area, which in turn was greater than the impactor side dent area. Evidence of environmental embrittlement through a stiffer tensile response was noted for the high temperature exposed laminates while the short beam strength tests showed greater propensity for interlaminar shear failure in the moisture exposed laminates. Destructive evaluations exposed larger, more pronounced delaminations in the environmentally conditioned laminates in comparison to the ambient ones. External damage metrics of the impactor side dent depth and area directly influenced the post-impact tensile strength of the laminates while no such trend between internal damage area and residual strength could be ascertained.  相似文献

A one-dimensional mesoscopic ring with one input and two output leads acts as a spintronic beam splitter. The spatial degree of freedom, i.e., the presence of two different possible output channels, gets intertwined with the spin direction as a consequence of quantum interference and spin-orbit interaction. We investigate this kind of spatial-spin correlation, and show that the output density operator contains no quantum entanglement in the important special case when the device polarizes a perfectly random input spin state. However, the correlations are in general not purely classical, we also present specific input states with maximal spatial-spin entanglement after the ring.  相似文献

Methyl groups from chain scission and H-crosslinks have been identified by solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance in amorphous ethylene-propylene copolymers containing 23 and 36 mole % propylene after γ-irradiation to 10 MGy at 30°C. G (scission) and G (crosslink) values determined from the n.m.r. spectra and by extraction are in agreement, which suggests that the crosslinks are not clustered. This may differ from the situation in polyethylene where there is a substantial crystalline content. G(S). G(X) and the ratio G(S)/G(X) increase with increasing propylene content of the copolymers.  相似文献

A sero-epidemiological survey was conducted in two districts in Argentina between 1993 and 1995, to provide additional information on the epidemiology of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in Argentina and to assess the level of immunity in cattle populations, and the circulation of FMD virus. As part of the final stage of this survey, a comparison was made of the results obtained by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and agar gel immunodiffusion techniques. Levels of population immunity against the four types of virus included in the vaccine increased progressively during the period of the survey until, in 1995, at the end of the vaccination period, the percentage of animals possessing adequate levels of protection was approximately 77% in yearlings, and more than 94% in cattle over one year old. During the three-year study, there was a clear tendency for viral activity to diminish, until in 1995 when between 3% and 0.6% were positive to the agar gel immunodiffusion test for the antigen associated with viral infection. By contrast, the ELISA detected antibody in about five times as many animals. The authors show how the increase in the level of population immunity was accompanied by a fall in viral activity.  相似文献

The failure of acetabular cups via loosening, migration or fracture is partially related to the stress distribution existing in the acetabular region. The complexity of the investigation of these stresses demands the application of a variety of model testing techniques involving combined embedded strain gauging, finite element analysis, transmission and reflective photoelasticity and crack propagation studies. Escherichia coli DNA polymerase III holoenzyme contains 10 different subunits which assort into three functional components: a core catalytic unit containing DNA polymerase activity, the beta sliding clamp that encircles DNA for processive replication, and a multisubunit clamp loader apparatus called gamma complex that uses ATP to assemble the beta clamp onto DNA. We examine here the function of the psi subunit of the gamma complex clamp loader. Omission of psi from the holoenzyme prevents contact with single-stranded DNA-binding protein (SSB) and lowers the efficiency of clamp loading and chain elongation under conditions of elevated salt. We also show that the product of a classic point mutant of SSB, SSB-113, lacks strong affinity for psi and is defective in promoting clamp loading and processive replication at elevated ionic strength. SSB-113 carries a single amino acid replacement at the penultimate residue of the C-terminus, indicating the C-terminus as a site of interaction with psi. Indeed, a peptide of the 15 C-terminal residues of SSB is sufficient to bind to psi. These results establish a role for the psi subunit in contacting SSB, thus enhancing the clamp loading and processivity of synthesis of the holoenzyme, presumably by helping to localize the holoenzyme to sites of SSB-coated ssDNA.  相似文献

Spatial compounding has long been explored to reduce coherent speckle noise in medical ultrasound. By laterally translating a one-dimensional array, partially correlated measurements made at different look directions can be obtained and incoherently averaged. The lateral resolution, however, is limited by the sub-array length used for each independent measurement. To reduce speckle contrast without compromising lateral resolution, a new spatial compounding technique using two-dimensional, anisotropic arrays is proposed. This technique obtains partially correlated measurements by steering the image plane elevationally with small inclinations. Incoherent averaging is then performed by adding image magnitudes. Therefore, contrast resolution is improved only at the price of a slightly wider elevational beam. Note that although anisotropic arrays have limited steering capability in elevation, grating lobes are not considered influential since only small inclinations are needed between measurements. Simulations have been performed to show both the change in spatial resolution and the improvement in contrast resolution. Results indicated minimal increase in the correlation length both laterally and axially. It was also shown that detectability can be significantly enhanced by increasing the number of measurements or increasing the differential inclination between measurements. This technique is therefore effective for reducing speckle noise while maintaining in-plane spatial resolution. Furthermore, it demonstrates a new application of two-dimensional anisotropic arrays in spite of their limited elevational steering capability.  相似文献
