Asymmetry, also known as domain bloom, is a systematic imperfection caused by the writing process in optical or magneto-optical recording. At the reading end of the system, asymmetry causes shifts of adjacent signal transitions in opposite directions. We present a simple nonlinear model for the replay signal in the presence of asymmetry. The model is specified by a single parameter, which is proportional to asymmetry, and its accuracy is demonstrated by application to replay signals from digital video disk drives. Based on the proposed model, a maximum-likelihood sequence detector is designed for replay signals with asymmetry. Simple modifications of the proposed detector lead to significant reductions in complexity, while the attainable performance, evaluated both analytically and through error-rate simulations, is superior to that of conventional techniques.  相似文献

Recently, light emitting diode (LED) based illumination systems have attracted considerable research interest. Such systems normally consist of a large number of LEDs. In order to facilitate the control of such high-complexity system, a novel signal processing application, namely illumination sensing, is thus studied. In this paper, the system concept and research challenges of illumination sensing are presented. Thereafter, we investigate a frequency-division multiplexing (FDM) scheme to distinguish the signals from different LEDs, such that we are able to estimate the illuminances of all the LEDs simultaneously. Moreover, a filter bank sensor structure is proposed to study the key properties of the FDM scheme. Conditions on the design of the filter response are imposed for the ideal case without the existence of any frequency inaccuracy, as well as for the case with frequency inaccuracies. The maximum number of LEDs that can be supported for each case is also derived. In particular, it is shown that, among all the other considered functions, the use of the triangular function is able to give a better tradeoff between the number of LEDs that can be supported and the allowable clock inaccuracies within a practical range. Moreover, through numerical investigations, we show that many tens of LEDs can be supported for the considered system parameters. Remark on the low-cost implementations of the proposed sensor structure is also provided.  相似文献

Germ-cell mutagenesis has been studied in male lambda lacZ transgenic mice in such a way that the data can be compared with literature data for germ-cell mutagenesis obtained with the specific-locus test (SLT). Mutagenesis induced by ethylnitrosourea (ENU), ethylmethanesulphonate (EMS), methylnitrosourea (MNU) and methylmethanesulphonate (MMS), has been studied in mature spermatozoa isolated from the epididymis and vas deferens. In order to investigate mutagenesis in different phases of spermatogenesis, animals were sacrificed at various time points after treatment. ENU at 150 mg/kg body weight significantly induced mutations in stem cells (analysis at 100 days post-treatment), but not in post-stem cells (7 days post-treatment). EMS (250 mg/kg) and MMS (60 mg/kg) induced mutations only in post-stem cells (7 days), but not in stem cells (100 days). MNU (70 mg/kg) resulted in an increase of mutations in both post-stem cells (14 and 37 days) and stem cells (100 days), although the latter, due to a limited number of data, was not statistically significant. All these data are in accordance with published SLT data. These results indicate that lambda lacZ transgenic mice are a suitable model to study gene mutations in different phases of spermatogenesis.  相似文献

An upper bound is derived for the SNR merits that may be attributed to run-length-limited codes when used in high-density recording systems with optimum mean-square decision feedback equalization. It is argued and exemplified that these merits often lag behind the SNR improvement that uncoded storage would bring about via a reduction of the signaling rate. We present a new method to correct eye movement artifacts in electroencephalogram (EEG) data. By using an eye tracker, whose data cannot be corrupted by any electrophysiological signals, an accurate method for correction is developed. The eye-tracker data is used in a Kalman filter to estimate which part of the EEG is of ocular origin. The main assumptions for optimal correction are summed and their validity is proven. The eye-tracker-based correction method is objectively evaluated on simulated data of four different types of eye movements and visually evaluated on experimental data. Results are compared to three established correction methods: Regression, Principal Component Analysis, and Second-Order Blind Identification. A comparison of signal to noise ratio after correction by these methods is given in Table II and shows that our method is consistently superior to the other three methods, often by a large margin. The use of a reference signal without electrophysiological influences, as provided by an eye tracker, is essential to achieve optimal eye movement artifact removal.  相似文献
