Coronary artery ectasia (CAE) is frequently encountered in clinical practice, conjointly with atherosclerotic CAD (CAD). Given the overlapping cardiovascular risk factors for patients with concomitant CAE and atherosclerotic CAD, a common underlying pathophysiology is often postulated. However, coronary artery ectasia may arise independently, as isolated (pure) CAE, thereby raising suspicions of an alternative mechanism. Herein, we review the existing evidence for the pathophysiology of CAE in order to help direct management strategies towards enhanced detection and treatment.  相似文献

The set of three new hydrogen bonding functionalized fullerenes containing amide (PCB-t-BA, PCB-n-BA, and MPCB-t-BA) was investigated using the infrared absorption and Raman scattering spectroscopies. Additionally, the quantum chemical calculations of the equilibrium geometry and normal mode vibrations of the molecules were performed. Role of hydrogen bonds (HB) in the investigated samples was under our particular attention. Bifurcated HB was suggested.  相似文献

The effects of variation in the times of mincing post mortem (2, 4, or 6 h), pre-rigor salting (1.5% wt wt ) and freezing rate [fast (10 min, liquid nitrogen); medium (4-6 h at -40 °C and 0.8 m s(-1) air velocity); or slow (36-38 h at -10 °C and 0.1 m s(-1) air velocity followed by 12 h at -20 °C and 0.1 m s(-1) air velocity)] on the functionality of young bull meat were examined using hot-boned forequarters. At 52 h post packaging, the meat was thawed (72 h at 4 °C), its pH measured, and it was used to make finely comminuted batters. Cook yield and stress and strain of the cooked batters were measured. Time of mincing had no effect on meat pH, cook yield or stress and strain. There was a significant interaction (P < 0.05) between pre-rigor salting and freezing rate for pH. Freezing rate did not affect the pH of pre-rigor salted meat whereas the pH of unsalted pre-rigor meat was highest at the fastest freezing rate. Meat salted pre-rigor had a significantly (P < 0.05) higher pH than the post-rigor chilled control. Pre-rigor salting decreased the stress values of cooked batter whereas the slowest freezing rate increased stress. Stress and strain values for cooked batters from thawed meat were not significantly different from the values for batters made from the unfrozen control. Cook yields of batters made from pre-rigor frozen meat were higher than that of the postrigor control but not significantly so. The results indicate that suppliers can use pre-rigor salted and frozen meat when manufacturing comminuted products without major detrimental effects on the cook yield and texture of the finished product.  相似文献

This paper describes the method of modelling and numerical simulation of bubble column bioreactors in which the process of aerobic biodegradation of carbonaceous substrate occurs. Such bioreactors belong to systems with distributed state variables. Determining steady states of such objects results in solving non-linear boundary-value problems.The bioreactors with axial dispersion and piston flow with biomass recirculation were analysed. The effectiveness of selected algorithms used to determine the steady states of such bioreactors were compared; the numerical properties of mathematical models of analysed bioreactors were specified, the branches of steady states in bioreactors with axial dispersion and piston flow were determined and the application areas of such bioreactors were defined.  相似文献

A hybrid fluidized-bed bioreactor for water purification was proposed and analyzed. It is a novel type of bioreactor characterized by hitherto unknown stationary and dynamic features. Steady-state characteristics of this hybrid bioreactor with external liquid circulation are presented. A quantitative analysis of steady-state properties of the bioreactor was performed with the aid of an original mathematical model developed for a double-substrate aerobic microbiological process. A steady-state analysis of aerobic processes characterized by different oxygen demand was performed. The effect of essential parameters was evaluated, including carbonaceous substrate concentration in the feed stream to the apparatus, aeration intensity, total residence time of a liquid in the bioreactor, and height of the bed of fine carrier particles.  相似文献

Data sources: ABI/Inform, BRS, CHID, Dissertation Abstracts International, ERIC, Medline, Occupational Health and Safety Database, PsycInfo, Smoking and Health Database, SSCI, and Sociological Abstracts.

Study selection: Controlled smoking cessation interventions at the workplace with at least six months follow up published from 1989 to 2001 and reporting quit rates (QRs).

Data extraction: Two reviewers independently scanned titles/abstracts of relevant reports, and we reached consensus regarding inclusion/exclusion of the full text reports by negotiation. A third reviewer resolved disagreements. Two reviewers extracted data according to a coding manual. Consensus was again reached through negotiation and the use of a third reviewer.

Data synthesis: 19 journal articles were found reporting studies conforming to the study's inclusion criteria. Interventions included self help manuals, physician advice, health education, cessation groups, incentives, and competitions. A total of 4960 control subjects were compared with 4618 intervention subjects. The adjusted random effects odds ratio was 2.03 (95% confidence interval 1.42 to 2.90) at six months follow up, 1.56 (95% CI 1.17 to 2.07) at 12 months, and 1.33 (95% CI 0.95 to 1.87) at more than 12 months follow up. Funnel plots were consistent with strong publication bias at the first two follow ups but not the third. In Fisher et al's 1990 study, the corresponding ORs were 1.18, 1.66, and 1.18.

Conclusions: Smoking cessation interventions at the worksite showed initial effectiveness, but the effect seemed to decrease over time and was not present beyond 12 months. Compared to the Fisher (1990) analysis, the effectiveness was higher for the six month follow up. Disappointingly, we found methodological inadequacies and insufficient reporting of key variables that were similar to those found in the earlier meta-analysis. This prevented us from determining much about the most effective components of interventions. It is advisable for researchers conducting studies in the future to report data on attrition and retention rates of participants who quit, because these variables can affect QRs.

The aim of this work was to develop a new fat by enzymatic interesterification of mutton tallow with rapeseed oil. It was assumed that by inducing hydrolysis of fats by addition of water to the enzymatic preparation (8, 10, 15 wt%) natural emulsifiers would be produced in the reaction environment. Fat blends obtained from the enzymatic reactions were evaluated as a fat base for emulsion systems. It was found that the fat resulting from interesterification in the presence of Lipozyme RM IM (immobilized lipase from Rhizomucor miehei, Novozymes Bagsvaerd, Denmark) with 15 wt% of water possessed the highest content of polar fraction (MAG and DAG), and served as the most suitable blend for emulsification, producing emulsions that exhibited the highest stability.  相似文献

In contrast to the worst case approach, the average case setting provides less conservative insight into the quality of estimation algorithms. In this paper we consider two local average case error measures of algorithms based on noisy information, in Hilbert norms in the problem element and information spaces. We define the optimal algorithm and provide formulas for its two local errors, which explicitly exhibit the influence of factors such as information, information (measurement) errors, norms in the considered spaces, a subset where approximations are allowed, and “unmodeled dynamics.” Based on the error expression, we formulate in algebraic language the problem of selecting the optimal approximating subspace. The solution is given along with the specific formula for the error, which depends on the eigenvalues of a certain matrix defined by information and norms under consideration. Timely information on spatial distribution and temporal dynamics of snow cover in the pan-Arctic zone is needed, as snow cover plays an important role in climate, hydrology and ecological processes. Here we report estimates of snow cover in the pan-Arctic zone (north of 45° N) at 1-km spatial resolution and at a 10-day temporal interval over the period of April 1998 to December 2001, using 10-day composite images of VEGETATION sensor onboard Système Pour l'Observation de la Terre (SPOT)-4 satellite. The results show that snow covered area (SCA) in North America (north of 45° N) increased from 1998 to 2001, while SCA in Eurasia (north of 45° N) decreased from 1998 to 2000 but increased in 2001. There were large spatial and temporal variations of snow cover in the pan-Arctic zone during 1998-2001.  相似文献
