Performance comparison of SWCE and Kalman-based HSDPA receivers

Equalisers can provide significant improvement in the performance of CDMA-based systems such as UMTS. Naturally, the level of improvement introduced depends on the employed equalisation technique. Reported are the results of an investigation into the performance of a Kalman-based channel-estimator/equaliser for use in high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) receivers. Also, the performances of the Kalman and the sliding window chip rate equaliser (SWCE) algorithms are compared.     

Twin-loop Cartesian transmitter (TLCT)

A novel technique which enhances the linearisation performance of the Cartesian feedback transmitter is introduced. The effectiveness of the technique has been illustrated by means of analysis and the results obtained from a hardware prototype     

Phase-lag compensated Cartesian feedback transmitter

The performance of a Cartesian transmitter can be significantly improved by the addition of a pair of phase-lag compensators to its baseband section. The effectiveness of this technique has been illustrated using the results obtained from a transmitter hardware prototype     

Phase-lag compensated twin-loop Cartesian transmitter

The phase-lag compensated version of the twin-loop Cartesian transmitter is introduced. Results obtained from a hardware prototype are used to show that the addition of the phase-lag compensators to the twin-loop transmitter results in increasing transmitter linearity and/or linearisation bandwidth     

The frequency-hopped Cartesian feedback linear transmitter

A frequency-hopped version of the Cartesian feedback linear transmitter for use in future mobile communication systems is introduced. The essential requirements for the successful operation of such a transmitter are discussed. Using the results obtained from a hardware prototype, the problems generated by a hopping carrier are outlined and solutions introduced
