Leadership Behavior and Subordinate Well-Being.

The authors used a longitudinal design to investigate the relation between leadership behavior and the well-being of subordinates. Well-being is conceptualized as people's feelings about themselves and the settings in which they live and work. Staff members (N = 562) of 2 Community Trusts participated 4 times in a 14-month period. Five models were formulated to answer 2 questions: What is the most likely direction of the relation between leadership and well-being, and what is the time frame of this relation? The model with the best fit suggested that leadership behavior and subordinate responses are linked in a feedback loop. Leadership behavior at Time 1 influenced leadership behavior at Time 4. Subordinate well-being at Time 2 synchronously influenced leadership behavior at Time 2. Leadership behavior at Time 4 synchronously influenced subordinate well-being at Time 4. The POLARBEAR-2 Experiment

We present an overview of the design and development of the POLARBEAR-2 experiment. The POLARBEAR-2 experiment is a cosmic microwave background polarimetry experiment, which aims to characterize the small angular scale B-mode signal due to gravitational lensing and search for the large angular scale B-mode signal from inflationary gravitational waves. The experiment will have a 365 mm diameter multi-chroic focal plane filled with 7,588 polarization sensitive antenna-coupled Transition Edge Sensor bolometers and will observe at 95 and 150 GHz. The focal plane is cooled to 250 mK. The bolometers will be read-out by SQUIDs with \(32\times \) frequency domain multiplexing. The experiment will utilize high purity alumina lenses and thermal filters to achieve the required high optical throughput. A continuously rotating, cooled half-wave plate will be used to give stringent control over systematic errors. The experiment is designed to achieve a noise equivalent temperature of 5.7  \(\mu \) K \(\sqrt{s}\) , and this allows us to constrain the signal from the inflationary primordial gravitational corresponding to a tensor-to-scalar ratio of \(r = 0.01\) ( \(2\sigma \) ). POLARBEAR-2 will also be able to put a constraint on the sum of neutrino masses to 90 meV ( \(1\sigma \) ) with POLARBEAR-2 data alone and 65 meV ( \(1\sigma \) ) when combined with the Planck satellite. We plan to start observations in 2014 in the Atacama Desert in Chile.

Strain as a moderator of the relationship between work characteristics and work attitudes.

Research on the psychological effects of work characteristics has investigated their relationships with both work attitudes and psychological strain, with the latter 2 variables being treated as alternative or joint dependent variables. The focus of this article is to propose that strain moderates the relationship between perceptions of work characteristics and work attitudes. The proposition is tested on a maximum sample of 9,327 health care employees by using moderated multiple regression followed by subgroup comparisons. The results strongly support the moderating effect, showing that as strain increases, the strength of the relationship between perceptions of work characteristics and work attitudes decreases. High-speed 32-bit buses for forward-looking computers

The features offered by current high-performance 32-bit system buses are examined. They allow multiprocessing, scalability, block transfers to RAM, cache coherence, and autoconfiguration (the ability to poll boards connected to them, identify the boards, and adjust the software interface accordingly). The factors that need to be taken into account when designing these buses are considered, and their performance and limitations are discussed     

IEEE P896—the Futurebus project

In 1978, the IEEE decided that a new bus standard should be drawn up which would cater for the industry's movement towards multimicroprocessor systems. It was important, though, that this standard should preempt the emergence of a new generation of proprietary buses which become de facto, like Multibus, before they are completely specified. This paper describes the background to P896 (Futurebus), how it has developed and where it stands at the moment. The paper then details the goals and objectives set up for Futurebus and explains why decisions were made. Since the standard has yet to be completed, the paper can only predict, though with some authority, how the standard will progress.
