With the increase of industrialization and urbanization, humankind faces massive oil-based pollution due to tanker accidents, human error, and natural disasters. For this, hydrophobic sorbents are fabricated and their applications for the removal of oil from polluted water sources are investigated. These hydrophobic sorbents are prepared by the condensation reaction of poly(dimethylsiloxane) and tris[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]isocyanurate cross-linker via bulk polymerization. The obtained sorbents exhibit high oil sorption capacity, fast absorption–desorption kinetics, and great reusability. A color-based face tracking algorithm is proposed to be used as a human-computer interaction tool on mobile devices. The solution
provides a natural means of interaction enabling a motion parallax effect in applications. The algorithm considers the characteristics
of mobile use-constrained computational resources and varying environmental conditions. The solution is based on color comparisons
and works on images gathered from the front camera of a device. In addition to color comparisons, the coherency of the facial
pixels is considered in the algorithm. Several applications are also demonstrated in this work, which use the face position
to determine the viewpoint in a virtual scene, or for browsing large images. The accuracy of the system is tested under different
environmental conditions such as lighting and background, and the performance of the system is measured in different types
of mobile devices. According to these measurements the system allows for accurate (7% RMS error) face tracking in real time

Cross‐linked poly(orthocarbonate)s were prepared by condensation of the tetraethyl orthocarbonate with different length of aliphatic diols. The synthesized polymers have been characterized by Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy, solid‐state 13C cross‐polarization magic angle spinning (CPMAS) nuclear magnetic resonance, thermal gravimetric analysis, and elemental analysis. The cross‐linked polymers were evaluated for organic solvent absorbency application. The effect of diol type on swelling properties of cross‐linked polymers was studied through the solvent absorption tests. The swelling parameters such as maximum solvent absorbency, saturation time, and retention of the solvent were evaluated for the synthesized sorbents. We consider source-initiated broadcast session traffic in an ad hoc wireless network operating under a hard constraint on the end-to-end delay between the source and any node in the network. We measure the delay to a given node in the number of hops data travels from the source to that node, and our objective in this paper is to construct an energy-efficient broadcast tree that has a maximum depth Delta, where Delta; represents the end-to-end hop constraint in the network. We characterize the optimal solution to a closely related problem in massively dense networks using a dynamic programming formulation. We prove that the optimal solution can be obtained by an algorithm of polynomial time complexity O(Delta2). The solution to the dynamic program indicates that there is a single optimal policy applicable to all massively dense networks. Elaborating on the insights provided by the structure of the problem in massively dense networks, we design an algorithm for finding a solution to the hop constrained minimum power broadcasting problem in general networks. By extensive simulations, we demonstrate that our proposed optimization-based algorithm generates broadcast trees within 20% of optimality for general dense networks. 相似文献

The goal of this study was to quantify the contribution of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) to U(VI) immobilization by Shewanella sp. HRCR-1. Through comparison of U(VI) immobilization using cells with bound EPS (bEPS) and cells with minimal EPS, we show that (i) bEPS from Shewanella sp. HRCR-1 biofilms contribute significantly to U(VI) immobilization, especially at low initial U(VI) concentrations, through both sorption and reduction; (ii) bEPS can be considered a functional extension of the cells for U(VI) immobilization and they likely play more important roles at lower initial U(VI) concentrations; and (iii) the U(VI) reduction efficiency is dependent upon the initial U(VI) concentration and decreases at lower concentrations. To quantify the relative contributions of sorption and reduction to U(VI) immobilization by EPS fractions, we isolated loosely associated EPS (laEPS) and bEPS from Shewanella sp. HRCR-1 biofilms grown in a hollow fiber membrane biofilm reactor and tested their reactivity with U(VI). We found that, when reduced, the isolated cell-free EPS fractions could reduce U(VI). Polysaccharides in the EPS likely contributed to U(VI) sorption and dominated the reactivity of laEPS, while redox active components (e.g., outer membrane c-type cytochromes), especially in bEPS, possibly facilitated U(VI) reduction. 相似文献

The most significant complication of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) is cardiovascular disease, mainly coronary artery disease (CAD). Although the effective treatment of CAD is an important prognostic factor, whether percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is better for treating CAD in this group of patients is still controversial. We searched Pubmed/Medline, Web of Science, Embase, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials articles that compared the outcomes of CABG versus PCI in patients with ESKD requiring dialysis. A total of 10 observational studies with 39,666 patients were included. Our analysis showed that when compared to PCI, CABG had lower risk of need for repeat revascularization (relative risk [RR] = 2.25, 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.1–2.42, p < 0.00001) and cardiovascular death (RR = 1.19, 95% CI 1.14–1.23, p < 0.00001) and higher risk for short-term mortality (RR = 0.43, 95% CI 0.38–0.48, p < 0.00001). There was no statistically significant difference between the PCI and CABG groups in the risk for late mortality (RR = 1.05, 95% CI 0.97–1.14, p = 0.25), myocardial infarction (RR = 1.05, 95% CI 0.46–2.36, p = 0.91) or stroke (RR = 1.02, 95% CI 0.64–1.61, p = 0.95). This meta-analysis showed that in ESKD patients requiring dialysis, CABG was superior to PCI in regard to cardiovascular death and need for repeat revascularization and inferior to PCI in regard to short term mortality. However, this meta-analysis has limitations and needs confirmation with large randomized controlled trials. 相似文献
