In this paper, we present the PolyMAX module which enhances network simulator 2 (ns-2), the most popular network simulator used in academia, to provide one of the most complete simulation tools to evaluate the performance of Mobile WiMAX networks. PolyMAX is based on the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) module and our specific contributions consist on the design and implementation of the Quality of Service (QoS) classes and QoS management messages, the uplink access grant-request mechanisms, Adaptive Modulation and Coding, and a scheduler handling all five WiMAX QoS classes. We also present validation results for the different components of our module and typical WiMAX simulation scenarios illustrating its flexibility and some of its features. The PolyMAX module represents an important tool enabling researchers to easily implement their Mobile WiMAX scheduling and Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) algorithms and accurately evaluate their performance for realistic scenarios.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: This paper describes results obtained for different participating research groups in an interlaboratory study related to biochemical methane potential (BMP). In this research work, all experimental conditions influencing the test such as inoculum, substrate characteristics and experimental conditions were investigated. The study was performed using four substrates: three positive control substrates (starch, cellulose and gelatine), and one raw biomass material (mung bean) at two different inoculum to substrate ratios (ISR). RESULTS: The average methane yields for starch, cellulose, gelatine and mung bean at ISR of 2 and 1 were 350 ± 33, 350 ± 29, 380 ± 42, 370 ± 36 and 370 ± 35 mL CH4 g?1 VSadded, respectively. The percentages of biotransformation of these substrates into methane were 85 ± 8, 85 ± 7, 88 ± 9, 85 ± 8 and 85 ± 8%, respectively. On the other hand, the first‐order rate constants obtained from the experimental data were 0.24 ± 0.14, 0.23 ± 0.15, 0.27 ± 0.13, 0.31 ± 0.17 and 0.23 ± 0.13 d?1, respectively. CONCLUSION: The influence of inocula and experimental factors was nearly insignificant with respect to the extents of the anaerobic biodegradation, while the rates differed significantly according to the experimental approaches. The over-involvement of elderly drivers in collisions has a potentially adverse effect on highway safety. The question for most experts in traffic research is whether we can predict the individual risk of accidents and which variables are the best predictors, especially for this population. For a better understanding of the elderly drivers' problems, this study aimed to describe the most common types of accidents in the elderly population of drivers living in Quebec (> or = 65 years of age). The second objective of the study was to analyse the relationship between previous accidents or convictions and the risk of subsequent accidents. The results show that: (1) elderly drivers are characterised by error accidents involving more than one car, especially at intersections, (2) prior accidents are a better predictor for accident risk than prior convictions and (3) these trends steadily increase with each age group (drivers 65 years old to 80 years or more). The results are discussed in relation to the literature on risk behaviour of the elderly drivers.  相似文献

The design and implementation of a baseband wide-band code-division multiple access (WCDMA) dual-antenna mobile terminal system-on-a-chip (SoC) is presented in this paper. Spatial diversity processing mitigates wireless channel impairments and is a key enabling technology for WCDMA to support high quality of service at high data rates and capacity. The SoC integrates the baseband transceiver, coding and decoding functions, microcontrollers to implement the radio access protocols, and external interfaces to communicate with the application layer. The receiver design, which takes advantage of diversity benefits in several blocks, is described in detail. The SoC was fabricated in a 0.18-mum 1.8-V CMOS technology and requires a total area of 72mm2 consuming 532 mW at the maximum data rates. The application-specific integrated circuit was used in lab testing where a gain of up to 9 dB was observed for the dual-antenna receiver, which demonstrates the tremendous improvement provided by spatial diversity. The results presented in this paper provide a base architecture and a performance benchmark for commercial implementations of WCDMA mobile terminals  相似文献

Dynamic reservation TDMA protocol for wireless ATM networks   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
A dynamic reservation time division multiple access (DR-TDMA) control protocol that extends the capabilities of asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networks over the wireless channel is proposed in this paper. DR-TDMA combines the advantages of distributed access and centralized control for transporting constant bit rate (CBR), variable bit rate (VBR), and available bit rate (ABR) traffic efficiently over a wireless channel. The contention slots access for reservation requests is governed by the framed pseudo-Bayesian priority (FPBP) Aloha protocol that provides different access priorities to the control packets in order to improve the quality-of-service (QoS) offered to time sensitive connections. DR-TDMA also features a novel integrated resource allocation algorithm that efficiently schedules terminals' reserved access to the wireless ATM channel by considering their requested bandwidth and QoS. Integration of CBR, voice, VBR, data, and control traffic over the wireless ATM channel using the proposed DR-TDMA protocol is considered in this paper. Simulation results are presented to show that the protocol respects the required QoS of each traffic category while providing a highly efficient utilization of approximately 96% for the wireless ATM channel  相似文献

It is commonly acknowledged that patients with Alzheimer's disease show memory and cognitive deficits that result from their cerebral histopathological abnormalities. We report new evidence showing that they also manifest deficits in interhemispheric integration of information, probably reflecting a corpus callosum dysfunction. Patients were given a battery of motor, somatosensory, and visual tests that had to be carried out by using either one or both hemispheres. Tasks were chosen such that subjects with Alzheimer's disease performed normally when using intrahemispheric processing. They, however, performed poorly when interhemispheric communication was required. This observation attests to the presence of a disconnection syndrome and suggests that these interhemispheric tasks can serve as diagnostic tools for the early assessment of their dementia.  相似文献

This article describes one organization's program evaluation of the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) role. Smart antenna array technology has been shown to greatly improve the performance of wireless communication systems. In this article, we describe the impact of smart antenna array processing at the mobile terminal for Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) cellular networks. Using system simulations we demonstrate the quality of service, network coverage, and network capacity improvement provided by a WCDMA dual antenna receiver and we establish a relationship between this improvement and the link level performance. We then describe a receiver architecture for a dual antenna WCDMA mobile receiver. The proposed receiver was implemented, as part of a complete mobile terminal solution, in an ASIC using a 0.18 μm, 1.8 V CMOS technology. The ASIC was integrated with RF, analog and digital components in a PCMCIA card form factor. The PCMCIA is a 3GPP compliant user equipment and has been submitted to standardized performance and conformance tests. Experimental measurements gathered with the PCMCIA card illustrate the impact of a diversity enabled mobile data terminal on the link level performance. For various propagation environments and transmission data rates, improvements in the range of 2.7 – 10 dB in the required DPCH I c/I or for a 1% Block Error Rate (BLER) were observed. These measurements are within 1.4 dB of the ideal link level simulations which indicates that the predicted improvement at the network level should also materialize. The results presented in this paper show the tremendous potential of smart antenna arrays in 3G WCDMA cellular networks and establish diversity as a viable solution for high-speed cellular communications.  相似文献
