It is well known that a voltage drop due to inrush current at an energizing transformer may at times interrupt electrical equipment. Generally, the voltage drop is calculated by using a sophisticated tool such as EMTP, so that the transformer saturation phenomenon has been properly represented. However, it is not practical for distribution system engineers to calculate the voltage drop with transformer inrush by using EMTP, because there are many network access requests needing such calculations with many kinds of transformers. Therefore, in this paper, a simplified and easy‐to‐use calculation tool for voltage drops caused by transformer inrush in a distribution system is developed. In order to understand the voltage drop by inrush current during the planning stage, it is formulated by considering the transformer saturation/unsaturation periods in each winding type. The newly developed tool is based on versatile spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel ýO.R. It can be used with accuracy similar to that of EMTP. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to determine the strength of periosteal and galeal adhesiveness at particular intervals after subperiosteal and subperiosteal-subgaleal forehead lifting in a rodent model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty mice underwent a subperiosteal or subperiosteal-subgaleal coronal forehead lift procedure. Necropic and histologic examination of the periosteal, galeal, and bone interface was performed on postoperative days 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10, and the strength of the elevated flap reattachment to underlying tissues was measured. RESULTS: Tension analysis in the early postoperative period showed a higher avulsive force was required to re-elevate subgaleal-subperiosteal flaps than subperiosteal flaps. However, subperiosteal flap adhesiveness appeared to increase rapidly between postoperative days 4 and 8. By day 10, the force required to re-elevate subperiosteal flaps was significantly higher than that required for subgaleal-subperiosteal flaps (P < or = .0001). Histologic analysis showed an inflammatory response at the periosteum-bone interface, which maximized at postoperative day 6. CONCLUSIONS: In the early postoperative period, subgaleal-subperiosteal flaps had higher adhesiveness than subperiosteal flaps. However, by postoperative day 10, subperiosteal forehead flaps were substantially more adherent in this rodent model.  相似文献

A gel‐spinning process was used in an attempt to prepare a gelatin fiber with a high level of drawability. A gel fiber prepared by extrusion of 15 wt % gelatin in dimethyl sulfoxide into methanol at ?20°C was drawn to sixteen times the original length. After extraction of the dispersion medium, the mechanical strength of the fiber increased markedly with the draw ratio, and the fiber exhibited a tensile strength of 146 MPa and a Young's modulus of 2.3 GPa when drawn to the maximum. A gelatin fiber with greater mechanical strength was obtained when ethylene glycol was used as the spinning solvent. The X‐ray diffraction profile indicated the formation of triple‐helical structures and their lateral association, which is responsible for the mechanical strength of the fiber. Heat‐treatment improved the water‐resistance of the prepared fiber. γ‐Irradiation and treatment with glutaraldehyde improved the mechanical strength of the fiber. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cavitation flows induced around an axial-flow pump blade and inside a high pressure cage-type valve are simu-lated by a two-dimensional unsteady Navier-Stokes analysis with the simplest treatment of bubble dynamics.Thefluid is assumed as a continuum of homogeneous dispersed mixture of water and vapor nuclei.The analysis isaimed to capture transient stages with high amplitude pressure change during the birth and collapse of the bubbleespecially at the stage of cavitation inception.By the pump blade analysis,in which the field pressure is moderate,cavitation number of the inception and locations of developed cavitation are found to agree with experimental re-suits in a wide flow range between high incidence and negative incidence.In the valve flow analysis,in which thewater pressure of 5MPa is reduced to 2MPa,pressure change responding to the bubble collapse between the vaporpressure lower than 1 KPa and the extreme pressure of higher than 10~4 KPa is captured through a stable computa-tion.Location of the inception bubble and pressure force to the valve plug is found agree well with the respectiveexperimental features.  相似文献

Complement activation and leukosequestration to the lung was studied during cardiopulmonary bypass in eleven patients undergoing cardiac operation without blood transfusion. Six patients (group I) received methylprednisolone before and after the bypass, and the other five (group II) received cepharanthine (biscoclaurin alkaloid) before the bypass associated with methylprednisolone therapy. Leukosequestration to the lung was observed at the time of reperfusion of the lung only in group I, although complement activation estimated by the increase of C 4 a and C 3 a was quite similar in both group. Cepharanthine prevented the sequestration of the leukocyte to the lung may be by its membrane stabilizing effect.  相似文献

The two extreme functionally equivalent possibilities of distributed or centralised crossbar function for realising a bank-based multiport memory are compared on the basis of required global signal and transistor numbers. BACKGROUND: For high-risk Fontan candidates, the introduction of a bidirectional Glenn shunt before total cavopulmonary connection (a two-staged strategy) may extend the indications for the Fontan procedure. The clinical results of the two-staged and one-staged Fontan procedure were thus reviewed and compared. METHODS: Between November 1991 and July 1996, the two-staged strategy was performed in 40 high-risk Fontan candidates with a mean interval of 17.2 months after introducing the bidirectional Glenn shunt (staged group). We considered a young age (<2 years), high mean pulmonary arterial pressure (> or =20 mm Hg), high pulmonary vascular resistance (> or =3 Wood units), small pulmonary artery (Nakata index <200 mm2/m2), atrioventricular valve incompetence (> or = moderate), distortion of pulmonary artery, anomalous pulmonary venous return, and poor ventricular function as risk factors for the successful completion of Fontan circulation. During the same period, 68 patients underwent the modified Fontan procedure in a one-step fashion (primary group). RESULTS: In the staged group after the bidirectional Glenn shunt, the mean pulmonary arterial pressure and ventricular end-diastolic pressure were both found to have decreased significantly to the same level as those in the primary group, whereas the pulmonary artery demonstrated a significantly smaller size than that in the primary group. Operative morbidity was similar in both groups. Operative mortality was also similar and low in both groups (1.5% in the primary group and 0% in the staged group). CONCLUSIONS: A bidirectional Glenn shunt was found to be a useful interim palliation in high-risk Fontan candidates. This two-staged strategy may extend the operative indications for the Fontan procedure.  相似文献

The effect of the stereoregularity and molecular weight of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) on the mechanical properties of hydrogel was investigated. Compressive strength, creep behavior, and dynamic viscoelasticity were measured on hydrogels of syndiotacticity‐rich PVA derived from poly(vinyl pivalate) (Dp = 1690 diad‐syndiotacticity = 61%, Dp = 8020 diad‐syndiotacticity = 62%) and atactic PVA (Dp = 1750 diad‐syndiotacticity = 54%, Dp = 7780 diad‐syndiotacticity = 54%). Increasing the molecular weight of molecular chains constituting the gel improved the compressive strength of atactic PVA hydrogel. The stereoregularity of PVA had a greater effect than molecular weight on the strength of the hydrogel. Gel prepared from 8.8 g/dL syndiotacticity‐rich PVA had a high compressive modulus of 10 kPa, and the compressive modulus of the gel prepared from 3.3 g/dL was comparable with that of atactic PVA hydrogel prepared with more than 6 g/dL. The dynamic storage modulus of the gel derived from syndiotacticity‐rich PVA was remarkably higher than that of the atactic PVA gel and remained constant up to 60°C. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The aim of the present work was to investigate changes in cross-sectional morphologies of enamel crystallites as a function of location in secretory porcine enamel. Enamel tissues were obtained from 5- to 6-month-old slaughtered piglets. For examination by electron microscopy, a portion of the secretory enamel was embedded in resin and ultrathin sections were prepared with a diamond knife. In parallel studies, compositional and structural changes of enamel mineral were assessed by chemical analysis and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. For this purpose, two consecutive layers of the outer secretory enamel, each approximately 30 microns thick, were separated from the labial side of permanent incisors. Using high-resolution electron microscopy, early events of enamel crystal growth were characterized as the epitaxial growth of small apatite units on the lateral surfaces of the initially precipitated thin ribbon. These apatite units had regular triangle or trapezoid cross-sections. After fusions of those isolated trapezoids on both lateral sides of the platy template, the resulting enamel crystallites had the well-documented flattened-hexagonal shapes in cross-sections. The initially precipitated thin plate was buried inside the overgrown apatite lamella and then retained as a central dark line. Similar morphological evidence for the epitaxial nucleation and overgrowth of carbonatoapatite on the platy template was obtained in vitro. Chemical and FTIR analyses of the enamel layer samples showed that the characteristics of the youngest enamel mineral were distinct from those of enamel crystals found in older secretory enamel.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Hexagonal RMnO(3) is known as one of the candidates for multiferroic materials. We have focused on YbMnO(3), which has ferroelectricity along the c axis below 1000 K and antiferromagnetic ordering below 80 K. We have reported that magnetic, field-induced ferromagnetism in YbMnO(3) epitaxial thin films. In this study, we investigate the substitutional effect of the nonmagnetic element, Al, for Mn ions with triangular spin ordering on the ferroelectric and magnetic properties of YbMnO(3).  相似文献
