RePast is a popular agent toolkit with proven capabilities to fulfil the modelling challenges of large multi-agent systems (MASs). The toolkit, though, is normally used on a standalone workstation and therefore its practical use can be constrained (in space and time) by the limited available computing resources. This paper proposes an original approach – HLA_ACTOR_REPAST – aimed to distributing RePast models for high-performance simulation of complex scalable models. Novel in HLA_ACTOR_REPAST is an exploitation of a lean actor infrastructure implemented in Java. Actors bring to RePast agents such features as migration, location-transparent naming, efficient communications, and a control-centric framework. Actors can be orchestrated by an in-the-large custom control structure which is in charge of ensuring the necessary message causality constraints. Distribution and time management concerns depend on the IEEE standard HLA middleware. The paper first discusses details of the software engineering process underlying the development of HLA_ACTOR_REPAST. The mapping techniques, assisted by Java text annotations and aspect-oriented programming, try to minimize “code intrusions” in the original model and favour model transparency. The paper then furnishes some experimental data which witness the good performance results achieved by applying HLA_ACTOR_REPAST to a distributed version of a classic MAS benchmark model.  相似文献

In this paper, we experimentally analyze the modal dynamics of quantum-well semiconductor lasers. Modal switching is the dominant feature for semiconductor lasers that exhibit two or several active longitudinal modes in their time-averaged optical spectrum. In quantum-well lasers, these dynamics involve a periodic switching among several longitudinal modes, which follows a well-determined sequence from the bluest to the reddest mode in the optical spectrum. This feature is radically different from the well-known noise-driven mode-hopping occurring in bulk lasers which involves only two main modes. We analyze the differences in modal dynamics for these two kinds of laser by comparing the modal switching statistics and by studying the effects of noise and modulation in the pumping current.  相似文献

The influence of the hydrophobic-hydrophilic properties of bile salts (BS) on acute ethanol hepatotoxicity was investigated. Bile flow, biliary BS secretion and enzyme (LDH,AST) release in the perfusate were measured before and after exposure to low (0.1%) or high (1%) doses of ethanol in in vitro isolated livers perfused with 1 microM/min taurocholate (TCA), tauroursodeoxycholate (TUDCA) or taurodeoxycholate (TDCA). Ethanol promotes a rapid decrease of basal bile flow and BS secretion in TCA-perfused livers [-28% of basal values with 0.1% (N = 6), and -35% with 1% ethanol (N = 6)]. Bile flow and BS secretion were minimally decreased by ethanol in livers perfused with a hydrophilic BS (TUDCA) [-8% decrease of basal values with 0.1% ethanol (N = 6), and -10% with 1% ethanol (N = 9); p < 0.02 vs TCA-perfused livers]. In contrast, when livers were perfused with a hydrophobic BS (TDCA), ethanol showed a higher cholestatic effect than either TCA- or TUDCA-perfused livers. Enzyme release in the perfusate was not modified by 0.1% ethanol, while 1% ethanol promoted a 4-5 fold increase in LDH and AST release in the perfusate of TCA-perfused livers with respect to a mere 2-fold increase in TUDCA-perfused livers and a 6-7 fold increase in TDCA perfused livers (p < 0.03). In conclusion, we showed that TUDCA almost completely counteracts the cholestatic and cytolitic effects promoted by ethanol in the isolated perfused rat liver.  相似文献

The convergence of materials science, electronics, and biology, namely bioelectronic interfaces, leads novel and precise communication with biological tissue, particularly with the nervous system. However, the translation of lab-based innovation toward clinical use calls for further advances in materials, manufacturing and characterization paradigms, and design rules. Herein, a translational framework engineered to accelerate the deployment of microfabricated interfaces for translational research is proposed and applied to the soft neurotechnology called electronic dura mater, e-dura. Anatomy, implant function, and surgical procedure guide the system design. A high-yield, silicone-on-silicon wafer process is developed to ensure reproducible characteristics of the electrodes. A biomimetic multimodal platform that replicates surgical insertion in an anatomy-based model applies physiological movement, emulates therapeutic use of the electrodes, and enables advanced validation and rapid optimization in vitro of the implants. Functionality of scaled e-dura is confirmed in nonhuman primates, where epidural neuromodulation of the spinal cord activates selective groups of muscles in the upper limbs with unmet precision. Performance stability is controlled over 6 weeks in vivo. The synergistic steps of design, fabrication, and biomimetic in vitro validation and in vivo evaluation in translational animal models are of general applicability and answer needs in multiple bioelectronic designs and medical technologies.  相似文献

We address the issue of incorporating a particular yet expressive form of integrity constraints (namely, denial constraints) into probabilistic databases. To this aim, we move away from the common way of giving semantics to probabilistic databases, which relies on considering a unique interpretation of the data, and address two fundamental problems: consistency checking and query evaluation. The former consists in verifying whether there is an interpretation which conforms to both the marginal probabilities of the tuples and the integrity constraints. The latter is the problem of answering queries under a “cautious” paradigm, taking into account all interpretations of the data in accordance with the constraints. In this setting, we investigate the complexity of the above-mentioned problems, and identify several tractable cases of practical relevance.  相似文献

Future science-driven landing missions, conceived to collect in situ data on regions of planetary bodies that have the highest potential to yield important scientific discoveries, will require a higher degree of autonomy. The latter includes the ability of the spacecraft to autonomously select the landing site using real-time data acquired during the descent phase. This paper presents the development of an Evolutionary Fuzzy Cognitive Map (E-FCM) model that implements an artificial intelligence system capable of autonomously selecting a landing site with the highest potential for scientific discoveries constrained by the requirement of soft landing in a region with safe terrains. The proposed E-FCM evolves its internal states and interconnections as a function of real-time data collected during the descent phase, therefore improving the decision process as more accurate information becomes available. The E-FCM is constructed using knowledge accumulated by planetary experts and it is tested on scenarios that simulate the decision process during the descent phase toward the Hyndla Regio on Venus. The E-FCM is shown to quickly reach conclusions that are consistent with what would be the choice of a planetary expert if the scientist were presented with the same information. The proposed methodology is fast and efficient and may be suitable for on-board spacecraft implementation and real-time decision making during the course of robotic exploration of the Solar System.  相似文献
