The application of online analytical processing (OLAP) technology to bibliographic databases is addressed. We show that OLAP tools can be used by librarians for periodic and ad hoc reporting, quality assurance, and data integrity checking, as well as by research policy makers for monitoring the development of science and evaluating or comparing disciplines, fields or research groups. It is argued that traditional relational database management systems, used mainly for day-to-day data storage and transactional processing, are not appropriate for performing such tasks on a regular basis. For the purpose, a fully functional OLAP solution has been implemented on Biomedicina Slovenica, a Slovenian national bibliographic database. We demonstrate the system's usefulness by extracting data for studying a selection of scientometric issues: changes in the number of published papers, citations and pure citations over time, their dependence on the number of co-operating authors and on the number of organisations the authors are affiliated to, and time-patterns of citations. Hardware, software and feasibility considerations are discussed and the phases of the process of developing bibliographic OLAP applications are outlined. KB/7D cells represent a multidrug-resistant subclone of human nasopharyngeal carcinoma KB cells generated by continuous exposure to the topoisomerase II inhibitor VP-16 (etoposide). KB/7D cells also show cross-resistance to doxorubicin and vincristine. Phenotypic traits of the cell line include a 2-fold decrease in topoisomerase II levels and a decrease in the uptake of VP-16 without an increase in the rate of drug efflux or expression of P-glycoprotein, suggesting a novel mechanism associated with the uptake of anticancer drugs. This study demonstrated that the multidrug-resistance associated protein (MRP) is overexpressed in KB/7D cells, and that the loss of resistance in revertant cells correlates with the loss of MRP. The resistance to VP-16 and doxorubicin could be overcome, partially, and resistance to vincristine could be overcome completely, by the L-enantiomer of verapamil, but not by the D-enantiomer or by BIBW 22 (4-[N-(2-hydroxy-2-methyl-propyl)-ethanolamino]-2,7-bis[cis-2,6-++ +dimethylmorpholino)-6-phenylpteridin), an inhibitor of MDR-1. L-Verapamil was shown to be significantly more potent than D-verapamil in modulating the accumulation defect in KB/7D cells towards doxorubicin, as measured by flow cytometry and confocal microscopy, and towards VP-16, as measured by increases in protein-linked DNA strand breaks. This suggests that KB/7D cells are multidrug resistant due to decreases in topoisomerase II levels and the overexpression of MRP, that MRP leads to a decrease in drug accumulation, and that L-verapamil can modulate the MRP-associated accumulation defect and drug-resistance phenotype. This contrasts with previous studies that suggest that MRP causes multidrug resistance by exporting cytotoxic drugs out of the cell and that did not show modulation of MRP by verapamil.  相似文献

Using photoluminescence and photoluminescence excitation, weinvestigate the magnetic properties of (Cd,Mn)Te quantum wells inserted in pin diodes. Such structures give us the opportunity to tune the carrier density by applying a bias of the order of 1 V. Results obtained in a small magnetic field show the presence of magnetic domains, which persist as long as the quantum well is populated.  相似文献

Micropillars of different diameters have been prepared by focused ion beam milling out of a planar ZnTe-based cavity. The monolithic epitaxial structure, deposited on a GaAs substrate, contains CdTe quantum dots embedded in a ZnTe λ-cavity delimited by two distributed Bragg reflectors (DBRs). The high refractive index material of the DBR structure is ZnTe, while for the low index material a short-period triple MgTe/ZnTe/MgSe superlattice is used. The CdTe quantum dots are formed by a novel Zn-induced formation process and are investigated by scanning transmission electron microscopy. Micro-photoluminescence measurements show discrete optical modes for the pillars, in good agreement with calculations based on a vectorial transfer matrix method. The measured quality factor reaches a value of 3100.  相似文献

Rapid single flux quantum (RSFQ) digital circuits have reached the level of medium- to large-scale of integration. At this level, existing design methodologies, developed specifically for RSFQ circuits, have become computationally inefficient. Applying mature semiconductor methodologies to the design of RSFQ circuits, one encounters substantial difficulties originating from the differences between both technologies. In this paper, a new design methodology aimed at large-scale RSFQ circuits is proposed. This methodology is based on a semiconductor semicustom design approach. An established design methodology for small-stale RSFQ digital circuits, based on circuit (junction-level) simulation and device parameter optimization, is used for the design of basic RSFQ cells. A library composed of about 20 basic RSFQ cells has been developed based on this approach. A novel design methodology for large-scale circuits, presented in this paper, is based on logic (gate-level) simulation and timing optimization. This methodology has been implemented around the Cadence integrated design environment and used successfully at the University of Rochester for the design of two large-scale digital circuits  相似文献

In this paper, a compressed domain video watermarking scheme is proposed which embeds the watermark in the homogeneous moving object within a shot of video sequence to resist geometric attacks such as rotation, scaling etc. Intuitively, object based watermarking results low payload and has the least impact on visual quality since the object area is generally small and highly textured. The proposed work has two main contributions, firstly, an existing compressed domain motion coherent block detection algorithm [7] is extended to detect the moving objects within a video shot and secondly, a watermarking scheme has been proposed by embedding within the moving objects to resist RST attacks. A comprehensive set of experiments has been carried out to justify the applicability of the proposed scheme over the existing literature.  相似文献

Camcorder based video copy attack has become a serious threat to the electronic movie distribution services. Although watermarking is used to authenticate against such camcorder based copy attack, in the camcorder recorded videos, the embedded watermark suffers from several geometric distortions and temporal de-synchronizations. This paper proposes a watermarking scheme which is robust against the distortion due to cam-cordering process. Firstly, a comprehensive literature survey has been done on the watermarking schemes resilient to the cam-cording attack. Based on the existing limitations of the state-of-art literature, a watermarking scheme is devised to embed a watermark which is robust against to frame blending and projection attacks which are the major distortions caused during cam-cording. A comprehensive set of experiments has been carried out to show the applicability of the proposed scheme over the existing literature.  相似文献
