A new four layer tapered coupler (FLTC) has been studied and tested, able to transfer light efficiently from a monomode fiber to a polymer film guide by means of an auxiliary graded index glass waveguide. A simple theory has been developed to calculate the maximum efficiency of these structures. Experiments have been performed, at λ=1.321 μm, on several FLTC samples, containing K+-Na+ ion-exchanged glass waveguides and spin coated poly-3BCMU films. Insertion losses in the range 3-6.5 dB have been measured, depending on the taper configuration. The agreement between theoretical and experimental data is good, provided that a suitable ripple of the taper profile is assumed. The application of the new coupler to future integrated waveguide systems, including passive glass components and polymer based all optical devices, is assessed  相似文献

With the intent of estimating the proprioceptive sensitivity of the cervical rachis, the Authors subjected 17 healthy volunteers and 20 patients suffering from various cervical disorders to a clinical head positioning test, which was previously experimented upon by several french Authors was modified under certain aspects by our equipe. The test, consists in flexion and extension of the head after maximal rotations to the left and right, then repositioning the head at the starting point "0" which corresponds to the crossing point of two orthogonal axis of a target. The positions are marked on the target by a laser beam situated on the helmet worn by the subject undergoing testing. The results obtained corresponding to the errors committed regarding point "0", permit us to confirm the reliability of the test and significant definitions between the control group and the patients suffering from cervical disorders.  相似文献

Nanopowders of Yttrium Aluminium Garnet doped with neodymium (Nd:YAG) were investigated by X-Ray Absorption Fine Structure (XAFS) at the Nd LIII edge in the 1.3–20.8% doping range. XANES spectra appear similar in the full range of the Nd concentration. However, a significant decrease in the white line intensity of XANES is revealed as the quantity of Nd doping ions increases. Plotting the white line intensity as a function of Nd doping ions reveals two linear trends with two different slopes, identifying a threshold value where the neodymium concentration reaches 5 at.% This experimental finding provides support for the existence of a double doping regime in Nd:YAG nanopowders. OBJECTIVES: This paper describes a videotaped, home-based, strength training program, titled Strong-for-Life and reports on its effectiveness in improving muscle strength, psychological well-being, and health status in a sample of older persons. DESIGN AND SETTING: We enrolled 102 nondisabled, community-dwelling older people aged 66 to 87, identified from the Medicare beneficiary list, into a randomized, controlled trial. MEASUREMENTS: Effectiveness was based on change in isokinetic upper and lower extremity muscle strength, psychologic well-being, and health status. RESULTS: Results revealed several statistically significant short-term benefits after 12 to 15 weeks of exercise, especially for men. Younger older adults demonstrated a 10% improvement in knee extensor strength relative to control subjects. Older male exercisers achieved significant differences relative to controls in perceived anger, tension, and overall social functioning. Male exercisers, in general, achieved significant improvement in perceived vigor. Women did not report psychological benefits following participation in the program. CONCLUSION: Study results reveal that the Strong for Life program, designed to be widely disseminated to the nondisabled older population, has many short-term positive benefits.  相似文献

Optical networks carrying traffic belonging to different survivability classes must ensure not only the proper survivability differentiation but also the efficient network resource utilization. Current approaches improve network resource utilization by carrying low-class preemptable traffic along high-class spare resources, which are idle (i.e., unutilized) during failure-free conditions. In this paper, the proposed idle protection capacity reuse (IR) framework generalizes the practice of reutilizing idle spare resources to both failure-free and failure conditions. The IR framework is based on the idea of exploiting idle high-class lightpath protection resources not only for routing low-class lightpaths during the provisioning phase (i.e., provisioning-phase IR, P-IR) but also for dynamically restoring low-class lightpaths during the recovery phase (i.e., recovery-phase IR, R-IR). Both P-IR and R-IR have the potential to improve network utilization while providing multiclass lightpaths with the required survivability differentiation. The numerical evaluation shows that the utilization of R-IR in dynamic restoration results in an improved low-class lightpath survivability with respect to the utilization of stub release. Moreover, if P-IR and R-IR are alternatively exploited, then the former improves the provisioning performance, while the latter guarantees a higher survivability. In the end, if P-IR and R-IR are concurrently employed in the provisioning and in the dynamic restoration of two different low classes of lightpaths, respectively, an inherent survivability differentiation is achieved  相似文献

In wavelength-routed networks based on a GMPLS control plane, the resource reservation protocol with traffic engineering extensions (RSVP-TE) allows to establish end-to-end lightpaths. The resource reservation can be blocked due to lack of available resources (forward blocking) or due to resource contentions (backward blocking). In wavelength-routed networks, the backward blocking is the predominant blocking contribution, when traffic load is low or highly-dynamic and when lightpath restoration takes place. To reduce the backward blocking, the paper proposes two label preference (LP) schemes compliant with RSVP-TE message exchanges. LP schemes provide the destination node with a label identifying the preferred wavelength to reserve. The preferred label is computed in a distributed way during the forward signaling phase, with the objective of assigning disjoint wavelengths to reservation attempts that may contend the resources. Simulation results demonstrate that, compared to other schemes, LP schemes are effective in reducing the backward blocking during both lightpath provisioning and restoration, without negatively impacting the forward blocking.  相似文献

This paper introduces a new model for Non‐Conformity Management, aimed at overcoming the limitations occurring when dealing with Non‐Conformities through traditional methods like Root Cause Analysis. The need to suggest a new approach to Non‐Conformities Management is connected to those situations where a large variety of Non‐Conformities is recorded, with a significant number of low‐impacting ones; addressing them directly through methods like Root Cause Analysis would often be not economically viable. In this context, the paper discusses Holistic Non‐Conformities Reduction (HNCR) approach as a suitable option to address this kind of business situations. In particular, the contribution of this paper is related to the development of HNCR model and the evaluation of how to properly structure the model and the flow that shall be followed. By clustering Non‐Conformities into flexible categories to be easily modified, expanded and rearranged through time, the HNCR model allows to identify new critical Non‐Conformity families, otherwise hardly detectable. A proof of concept relative to HNCR deployment is presented: 2 different scenarios are introduced, the first being the Non‐Conformities management within the extended supply chain of a large pharmaceutical distribution centre, while the second deals with Non‐Conformities in the context of a company's new programs development.  相似文献

We used in-situ X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) to study the oxidation process of a cluster-assembled metallic titanium film exposed to molecular oxygen at room temperature. The nanostructured film has been grown on a Si(111) substrate, in ultra high vacuum conditions, by coupling a supersonic cluster beam deposition system with an XPS experimental chamber. Our results show that upon in-situ oxygen exposure Ti3 + is the first oxidation state observed, followed by Ti4 +, whereas Ti2 + is practically absent during the whole process. Our results compare well with the existing literature on Ti films produced using other techniques.  相似文献
