Pent et al. (see ibid., vol.SAC-6, no.1, p.34-41, 1988) proposed a semianalytic method for performance evaluation of communication channels with a bandpass nonlinearity. This method is based on a decomposition of the composite signal at the output of the nonlinear device which leads to the definition of an equivalent nonlinearity. In Pent et al. such an equivalent model is evaluated via numerical integration. In the present comment it is shown that a suitable series expansion of the nonlinearity characteristic yields to an evaluation of the equivalent nonlinearity in closed form  相似文献

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome comprises a very heterogeneous group of collagen diseases characterised in clinical terms by fragility and cutaneous hyperextensability, ligamentous hyperlaxity, ecchymosis, scarring, visceral and neurological manifestations. Having been described in detail by Ehlers in 1899 and Danlos in 1908, it was subsequently classified into various clinical types. At present at least 11 forms are recognised on the basis of their clinical characteristics, methods of transmission and biochemical defect; the first four types of the syndrome account for approximately 95% of cases. Almost all forms are transmitted with a dominant autosomic character. Specific genetic mutations have been ascertained whereas the biochemical defect has been identified in numerous types. Ehlers-Danlos type 1 syndrome is the most frequent and most severe form. The biochemical anomaly underlying the altered deposition of collagen fibre is still unknown and this is responsible for the "storiform" appearance of collagen fibre on ultrastructural examination. The authors have described a typical case of "Ehlers-Danlos type 1 syndrome" in which the diagnosis was confirmed by comparing clinical data and the results of ultrastructural tests which revealed the characteristic "pattern" of collagen fibres.  相似文献

The subject of this paper is an antenna tracking system used to maintain an antenna on board a geosynchronous (GEO) satellite, pointed towards a low earth orbit (LEO) satellite. The tracking system uses the BPSK modulated signals transmitted from the LEO satellite. The signal is received by an electronically switched antenna beam. A suitable processing of the received signal level then generates an error voltage which drives a tracking loop. The measurement of the received signal level is implemented by a power detector. Analysis of the antenna tracking algorithm is carried out and the performance is given in terms of linearized mean-square tracking error. The mean-square tracking error is related to the antenna beam parameters, to the closed loop bandwidth and to the statistics of the power measurement process. In particular, it is shown that a key parameter for the tracking loop performance is the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the power detector output, which is inversely proportional to the variance of the pointing error, and a theory has been developed to find an accurate expression for the SNR. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Mobilizing agents (MAs) have been suggested to improve the fungal degradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in soil. Three different MAs (Tween 20, Tween 80 and soybean oil) were investigated for their ability to stimulate contaminant degradation by either Phlebia sp. DABAC 9 or Allescheriella sp. DABAC1 in a soil spiked with a mixture of PAHs. RESULTS: Phlebia sp. and Allescheriella sp. markedly differed in their growth capabilities under non‐sterile conditions and without MAs (3.0 versus 0.1 µg ergosterol g?1 soil, respectively). However, soybean oil led to a 35‐fold increase of Allescheriella sp. growth. Contaminant degradations by Phlebia sp. DABAC 9 and Allescheriella sp. DABAC 1 were best supported by soybean oil and Tween 20, respectively. Enumeration of cultivable bacteria and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) analysis of PCR‐amplified 16S rRNA showed that microbial density and biodiversity were positively affected by the mycoremediation especially with Allescheriella sp., the use of which led to an evident detoxification. CONCLUSIONS: Allescheriella sp. DABAC 1 appears to be a promising strain in the remediation of PAH‐contaminated soils. The different response of the two fungi to MAs addition confirms the stringent need for a preliminary lab‐scale assessment of fungus/MA combinations prior to application. The ability of Lentinus tigrinus to grow and to degrade persistent aromatic hydrocarbons in aged contaminated soil was assessed in this study. L. tigrinus extensively colonized the soil; its degradation activity after 60 d incubation at 28°C, however, was mostly limited to dichloroaniline isomers, polychlorinated benzenes and diphenyl ether while the fungus was unable to deplete 9,10-anthracenedione and 7-H-benz[DE]anthracene-7-one which were the major soil contaminants. Although clean-up levels were limited, both density of cultivable heterotrophic bacteria and richness of the resident bacterial community in L. tigrinus microcosms (LtM) increased over time to a significantly larger extent than the respective amended incubation controls (1.9×10(9) CFU g(-1) vs. 1.0×10(9) CFU g(-1) and 37 vs. 16, respectively). Naphthalene- and catechol 2,3-dioxygenase gene copy numbers, however, decreased over time at a higher rate in LtM than in incubation controls likely due to a higher stimulation on heterotrophs than xenobiotics-degrading community members.  相似文献

Plasma small RNAs have been recently explored as biomarkers in Huntington’s disease (HD). We performed an exploratory study on nine HD patients, eight healthy subjects (HS), and five psychiatric patients (PP; to control for iatrogenic confounder effects) through an Affymetrix-Gene-Chip-miRNA-Array. We validated the results in an independent population of 23 HD, 15 pre-HD, 24 PP, 28 Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients (to control the disease-specificity) and 22 HS through real-time PCR. The microarray results showed higher levels of U13 small nucleolar RNA (SNORD13) in HD patients than controls (fold change 1.54, p = 0.003 HD vs. HS, and 1.44, p = 0.0026 HD vs. PP). In the validation population, a significant increase emerged with respect to both pre-HD and the control groups (p < 0.0001). SNORD13 correlated with the status of the mutant huntingtin carrier (r = 0.73; p < 0.001) and the disease duration (r = 0.59; p = 0.003). The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis showed the high accuracy of SNORD13 in discriminating HD patients from other groups (AUC = 0.963). An interactome and pathway analysis on SNORD13 revealed enrichments for factors relevant to HD pathogenesis. We report the unprecedented finding of a potential disease-specific role of SNORD13 in HD. It seems to peripherally report a ‘tipping point’ in the pathogenic cascade at the neuronal level.  相似文献

This paper is composed of two parts. The first part addresses some topics associated to the implementation of FDMA/TDM systems for ‘business’ services applications, operating at Ka band. A modular regenerative and processing satellite repeater, each module capable of handling up to 16 up-link carriers in the 2 Mb/s range is considered. Available coding techniques were reviewed; concatenated codes seem highly interesting because of the high coding gains achievable with two simpler co-decoding processes in series, and also because they lead to an implementation wherein the internal coder is installed on board the satellite, while the external one is installed in the user terminals. The problem of keeping stable the up-link carriers in the satellite demodulators is discussed and a compensation method is proposed. Finally, simulation results of co-decoding and carrier extraction performance are illustrated. The second part concerns the implementation of a multifrequency TDMA system. This is a hybrid system whereby the access for up-links uses time and frequency slots in a time-frequency map. The adoption of a clock synchronous network allows a frame for which no preamble and guard time are inserted between the burst. The error contributions and the performance of the clock synchronous network are assessed. A solution to the problem of fast phase/frequency estimation is proposed. For a clock synchronous network fast algorithms suitable for frequency demultiplexing and detecting of the FDM signal could be adopted; a modular solution to the implementation of the demultiplexer and detector is proposed based on the use of an optimized matched filter; a multistage scheme minimizes the number of multiplications.  相似文献

We describe a large-capacity on-board processing payload, designed for next generation satellite systems. It provides broadband multimedia services to mobile and fixed users, and assigns data rates ranging from a few Kbps up to 2 Mbps for an aggregate traffic capacity of about 9 Gbps. PURPOSE: Retinitis pigmentosa is a bilateral retinal degeneration. The primary disorder is still debated. METHODS: We performed a prospective investigation of the ocular circulation directly by color Doppler imaging (CDI). A total of 28 eyes of 14 patients (8 men and 6 women, affected with retinitis pigmentosa) were recruited for this study. For each case were evaluated protosystolic velocity and the resistive index of the ophthalmic artery, central retinal artery, posterior ciliary arteries and choroid. These values, furthermore, have been compared with a control group. RESULTS: The results of the CDI in the group of RP and in the CG were: in the OA: PSV 31.177 +/- 5.119 cm/sec vs 36.700 +/- 3.152 cm/sec (p < 0.007); RI 0.713 +/- 0.058 vs 0.717 +/- 0.019 (p < 0.0839); in the CRA PSV 7.075 +/- 1.611 cm/sec vs 12.710 +/- 2.795 cm/sec (p < 0.001); RI 0.560 +/- 0.062 vs 0.550 +/- 0.051 (p < 0.234); in the PCA: PSV 8.569 +/- 3.408 cm/sec vs 14.100 +/- 2.571 cm/sec (p < 0.001) with RI 0.634 +/- 0.090 vs 0.681 +/- 0.045 (p < 0.145). In the CHO: PSV 12.312 +/- 2.327 cm/sec vs 16.170 +/- 1.846 cm/sec (p < 0.001) with RI 0.581 +/- 0.072 vs 0.638 +/- 0.050 (p < 0.065). CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that in the affected eyes there is a statistically significant reduction in blood flow in ophthalmic and ciliary arteries. These data offer new views on the retinitis cause of pigmentosa and possible therapeutics to be studied.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Retrospective, subjective evaluation of results of suprapubic vesicourethropexy (Marshall-Marchetti-Krantz procedure) for stress urinary incontinence. MATERIAL: A total number of 81 patient records operated between 1980 and 1994 at our institution were reviewed and questionnaires were mailed to them to estimate the success rate, period of continence, current complaints and patient satisfaction. Patients with primary incontinence constituted 73% of this group, the remainder of 27% being recurrent or persistent incontinence. RESULTS: The response rate was 75% (60 cases) and this group was evaluated. Mean postoperative time was 9.9 (2-15) years at the time of assessment. Mean duration of continence was 78.5 months and was not influenced by prior hysterectomy or parity. Weak correlation was found between patients' age and continence period. It was similar in patients operated in their 5th and 6th decades of life and was shorter in the 7th decade. Additional sutures placed between the anterior bladder wall and rectus fascia (Lapides modification) resulted in a longer continence period. Cure rates decreased with time and were 81, 77, 57 and 28% after 6, 12, 60 and 120 months respectively. In the incontinent group, 34% of patients described leakage degree as lesser than preoperatively and 65% required protection. As many as 90% of continent and 62% of incontinent women evaluated their urinary system status as better than preoperatively. 90% of continent and 69% of incontinent women would repeat surgery again. CONCLUSIONS: This procedure is characterized by a high 81% early postoperative success rate that decreases with time. Despite recurrence of stress incontinence, one third of patients declare lesser incontinence degree and do not require protection.  相似文献
