Abstract— To understand actual viewing conditions at home is important for TV design. And the preferred luminance level of LCD TVs under actual viewing conditions is also important in order to obtain both good picture quality and low power consumption. The actual viewing conditions of households and the preferred luminance levels was investigated. In a field test of 83 households, the display luminance, screen illuminance, and viewing locations were measured on site. In laboratory experiments, young and elderly subjects adjusted the luminance of an LCD‐TV screen to their preferred levels under different screen illuminance levels, angular screen sizes, and average luminance levels (ALL) of the images. As a result, two equations, which represent the preferred luminance level of LCD‐TV screens corresponding to different viewing conditions for young and elderly subjects were obtained. When the ALL of the images was 25% and the screen illuminance and angular screen size were set at 100 lx and 20°, respectively, the preferred luminance was 1 60 cd/m2 for the young subjects and 248 cd/m2 for the elderly subjects. By using the setting of the preferred luminance of an LCD TV under actual viewing conditions, it is possible to conserve energy consumption.  相似文献

This study contributes to establishing the payment function of fee-based homes for the elderly. Disclosure statements from such homes for the elderly in selected urban and suburban cities in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan—considered a typical prefecture with adjoining urban and suburban areas—were examined. The study compared the determinants of the amounts charged by the homes based on the distinct geographic features of urban and suburban areas. The hedonic price model was combined with a two-stage least squares regression to determine the determinants of lump-sum and monthly payments. We found that the factors that influence monthly payments in urban areas include distance to a park, distance to the coast, meals offered, number of care staff, and initial lump-sum payment. In contrast, factors such as room size, distance to a bus stop, distance to a park, and the number of night staff influence monthly payments in suburban areas. We conclude that the surrounding landscape has a greater influence on monthly payments in urban areas than in suburban areas. Moreover, in suburban areas, the number of night staff has a substantial impact on monthly payments. The results can help provide investment suggestions in certain cases depending on the amount of investment capital.

Comparison of stream merging algorithms for media-on-demand   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Stream merging is a technique for efficiently delivering popular media-on-demand using multicast and client buffers. Recently, several algorithms for stream merging have been proposed, and in this paper we perform a comprehensive comparison of these algorithms. We present the differences in philosophy and mechanics among the various algorithms and illustrate the tradeoffs between their system complexity and performance. We measure performance in total, maximum, and time-varying server bandwidth usage under different assumptions for the client request patterns. We also consider the effects on clients when the server has limited bandwidth. The result of this study is a deeper understanding of the system complexity and performance tradeoffs for the various algorithms.Amotz Bar-Noy: This work was done in part while the author was a member of the AT&T Labs-Research, Shannon Lab, Florham Park, NJ.Justin Goshi: Corresponding author. Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) and abnormalities in cancer cells affect cancer progression and response to therapy. TAMs are a major component of the tumor microenvironment (TME) in breast cancer, with their invasion affecting clinical outcomes. Programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1), a target of immune checkpoint inhibitors, acts as a suppressive signal for the surrounding immune system; however, its expression and effect on TAMs and the clinical outcome in breast cancer are unknown. In this study, we used high-throughput multiple immunohistochemistry to spatially and quantitatively analyze TAMs. We subjected 81 breast cancer specimens to immunostaining for CD68, CD163, PD-1, PD-L1, CD20, and pan-CK. In both stromal and intratumoral areas, the triple-negative subtype had significantly more CD68/CD163, CD68/PD-L1, and CD163/PD-L1 double-positive cells than the estrogen receptor (ER)/progesterone receptor (PR) subtype. Interestingly, a higher number of CD68+/PD-L1+/CK-/CD163- TAMs in the intratumoral area was correlated with a favorable recurrence rate (p = 0.048). These findings indicated that the specific subpopulation and localization of TAMs in the TME affect clinical outcomes in breast cancer.  相似文献

A compact spatial multiplexing of local elements (SMILE) scheme smart antenna array with adaptive beamforming is presented. Low-noise amplifiers are implemented as switching elements to maintain a low system noise figure and allow fast switching. The switching scheme effectively reduces N RF channels to one, reducing the amount of costly RF hardware by a factor of N. The sampling rate must be higher than the signal bandwidth based on the Nyquist criterion to ensure proper restoration of the original signal. Measured data for destination of arrival estimation, beamforming, and digital data recovery demonstrate the capability and benefits of digital beamforming with this architecture.  相似文献
