Unlike crystalline metals, which have a well-understood periodical structure, the amorphous structure of metallic glasses (MGs) is still poorly understood, particularly when such a structure rearranges itself at the nanoscale under external agitations. In this article, we provide compelling evidence obtained from a recently developed high-resolution atomic force microscopy (HRAFM) technique that reveals the nanoscale structural heterogeneity after thermal annealing in a Zr–Ni metallic glass. Through the HRAFM technique, we are able to uncover the annealing-induced fractal growth of the dense-packing phases in the binary MG thin film, which exhibits a fractal dimension of ~1.7, in line with a two-dimensional diffusion limited aggregation process. The current findings not only reveal the evolution process of atomic packing in the annealed MG thin film, but also shed light on the possible cooling rate effect on the atomic structure of MGs.  相似文献

The emerging field of spintronics explores the many possibilities offered by the prospect of using the spin of the electrons for fast, nanosized electronic devices. The effect of magnetization acting on a current is the essence of giant or tunnel magnetoresistance. Although such spintronics effects already find technological applications, much of the underlying physics remains to be explored. The aim of this article is to demonstrate the importance of spin mixing in metallic nanostructures. Here we show that magnetic clusters embedded in a metallic matrix exhibit a giant magnetic response of more than 500% at low temperature, using a recently developed thermoelectric measurement. This method eliminates the dominating resistivity component of the magnetic response and thus reveals an intrinsic spin-dependent process: the conduction-electron spin precession about the exchange field as the electron crosses the clusters, giving rise to a spin-mixing mechanism with strong field dependence. This effect appears sensibly only in the smallest clusters, that is, at the level of less than 100 atoms per cluster.  相似文献

Recent advances in the automatic recognition of audiovisual speech   总被引:11,自引:0,他引:11  
Visual speech information from the speaker's mouth region has been successfully shown to improve noise robustness of automatic speech recognizers, thus promising to extend their usability in the human computer interface. In this paper, we review the main components of audiovisual automatic speech recognition (ASR) and present novel contributions in two main areas: first, the visual front-end design, based on a cascade of linear image transforms of an appropriate video region of interest, and subsequently, audiovisual speech integration. On the latter topic, we discuss new work on feature and decision fusion combination, the modeling of audiovisual speech asynchrony, and incorporating modality reliability estimates to the bimodal recognition process. We also briefly touch upon the issue of audiovisual adaptation. We apply our algorithms to three multisubject bimodal databases, ranging from small- to large-vocabulary recognition tasks, recorded in both visually controlled and challenging environments. Our experiments demonstrate that the visual modality improves ASR over all conditions and data considered, though less so for visually challenging environments and large vocabulary tasks.  相似文献

A nano-porous anodized aluminium oxide layer was synthesized on the surface of bulk aluminium at a wide range of anodization voltages. The barrier layer at the pore bottom of anodized aluminium oxide layer was chemically etched to make good electrical contact for nanowires electrodeposited in the pores thus formed on metallic aluminium substrates. Cathodic polarization was examined at a wide range of cathode potentials to investigate the electrodeposition behaviour of Cu and Co into the pores. Co81Cu19/Cu multilayered nanowires were fabricated using a pulse-plating technique into the templates. Co-alloy layer and Cu layer thicknesses were adjusted to 10 nm, by controlling the deposition times. The temperature dependence of the resistance of Co81Cu19/Cu multilayered nanowires grown on the template presented clean metallic characteristics and a giant magnetoresistance (GMR) of 23% was reached at 4 K.  相似文献

Now-a-days advances in mobile device technology aim to build complex computational systems providing a maximum level of flexibility, decentralization, simplest form of interactivity, and ease of use. Recently, the launch of the agent-oriented platform JaCaMo and its Android client based platform JaCa-Android have provided an appropriate level of abstraction to build smart mobile client server systems providing these attributes. By using these platforms, we have developed a multi-agent based Smart Mobile Virtual Community Management System (SMVCMS) that makes it possible to provide a decentralized and open management of virtual communities. This paper addresses the design and architecture of our multi-agent server and client application. It elaborates different features of our system; such as how a participant in virtual communities is supported by a Jason agent that encapsulates the logic and the control of the participation in a virtual community (such as publishing posts, notifying members, making recommendations for the user, etc.). It also discusses how the set of CArtAgOartifacts provides the basic functionalities and operations giving access to the functionalities for knowledge exchange in virtual communities, and personal agents onAndroid exploit these artifacts to execute their tasks while achieving their individual and collective goals. We have employed SMVCMS in the context of Smart Cities and found that the system fulfills the desired goals, such as decentralization of community management, personalized automatic management and discovery of communities, autonomy of agents and flexibility so that any agent can create its own community with the maximum level of ease.  相似文献

The serrated plastic flow, microstructure and residual stress of a Zr55 Cu30 Ni5 Al10 bulk metallic glass (BMG) undergone surface mechanical attrition treatment (SMAT) have been investigated by a combina-tion of compression tests with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and the incremental hole-drilling strain-gage method.It is found that SMAT leads to various microstructural modifications and residual stress distribution in the surface layers of the Zr-based BMG due to the mechanically-induced nanocrystallization and generation of shear bands.As a re-sult, the BMG alloy exhibits a remarkable work-hardening like behavior and significant increase of plastic strain from less than 1% to 15%, and its plastic deformation dynamics yields a power-law distribution of shear avalanches.Based upon the analysis of the experimental results, it is indicated that this can be con-nected to the SMAT-induced microstructural modifications and the resulting residual compressive stress in the Zr-based BMG.  相似文献

Machining introduces residual stresses at the specimen surface and modifies the microstructure and the texture in a small volume close to the surface. Such changes are important in controlling the corrosion behaviour of machined workpieces in the presence of an aggressive environment. In the present paper, the relationships between cutting parameters and the surface and subsurface characteristics of machined copper were first quantified experimentally using a complete plan of L8 (23) and a linear regression method. The influence of surface characteristics on the local polarisation curves of machined surfaces was then investigated. The shear-type crystallographic orientation generated under certain machining conditions tends to stabilize the material by inhibiting anodic reactions. This beneficial effect was balanced by the deleterious impact of roughness and quadratic stress. In the presence of lubrication, the current densities determined in the passive range were generally very low. The evolution of the open-circuit potential OCP measured under free corrosion conditions was analysed considering the surface characteristics and the Pearson’s correlation matrix. OCP was shifted in the anodic direction with increasing quadratic stress, roughness and lubrication (classified according to their increasing influence on the OCP).  相似文献

Audiovisual integration for tennis broadcast structuring   总被引:2,自引:2,他引:0  
This paper focuses on the integration of multimodal features for sport video structure analysis. The method relies on a statistical model which takes into account both the shot content and the interleaving of shots. This stochastic modelling is performed in the global framework of Hidden Markov Models (HMMs) that can be efficiently applied to merge audio and visual cues. Our approach is validated in the particular domain of tennis videos. The model integrates prior information about tennis content and editing rules. The basic temporal unit is the video shot. Visual features are used to characterize the type of shot view. Audio features describe the audio events within a video shot. Two sets of audio features are used in this study: the first one is extracted from a manual segmentation of the soundtrack and is more reliable. The second one is provided by an automatic segmentation and classification process. As a result of the overall HMM process, typical tennis scenes are simultaneously segmented and identified. The experiments illustrate the improvement of HMM-based fusion over indexing using only the best single media, when both media are of similar quality.
