This paper presents a numerical study of the Lorentz force and fluid flow induced by a rotating magnetic field in a medium with a nonhomogeneous electric conductivity placed in a cylindrical vessel with insulated walls. The nonhomogeneity is modeled by the presence of a solid and a liquid phase of different electrical conductivity. The solid phase is located orthogonally to the axis of rotation, which corresponds to the case of unidirectional solidification. The simulations were performed for different locations of the solid front and different ratios of the electrical conductivity, σ s /σ l =0.2... 10. Here σ s and σ l are the electric conductivity of the solid and liquid phases, respectively. The results showed that the difference between electrical conductivity of solid and liquid phases has a noticeable effect on the mean-time Lorentz force and the velocity: namely, the presence of the solid phase (σ s >σ l ) leads to an increase of the Lorentz force and fluid flow in the cylinder.  相似文献

The pressure drop in helical coils can easily be calculated with good precision. The required friction factor λ can be taken from the friction diagram presented in this paper. A static magnetic field having the strength of B=0.6 T has been used as an additional process parameter in order to suppress the establishment of pores while dispersing TiC particles in surface layers of aluminium alloys using a laser. The migration of hydrogen towards regions of high temperatures within the melting pool can lead to the creation of gas bubbles, therefore yielding pores after resolidification in the processed layer. This mechanism (known for instance in welding technologies of aluminium) could be suppressed by Lorentz-forces induced by an externally applied magnetic field. It could be shown experimentally that magnetic fields could assist laser surface treatment processes beneficially if higher beam powers were coupled in. This may be interesting if, for instance, thicker dispersed layers should be achieved.  相似文献

Primary torsion dystonia is an autosomal-dominantly inherited, neurodevelopmental movement disorder caused by a GAG deletion (ΔGAG) in the DYT1 gene, encoding torsinA. This mutation is responsible for approximately 70% of cases of early-onset primary torsion dystonia. The function of wildtype torsinA is still unknown, and it is unsolved how the deletion in the DYT1 gene contributes to the development of the disease. To better understand the molecular processes involved in torsinA pathology, we used genome-wide oligonucleotide microarrays to characterize gene expression patterns in the striatum of mouse models overexpressing the human wildtype and mutant torsinA. By this approach we were able to detect gene expression changes that seem to be specific for torsinA pathology. We found an impact of torsinA, independent from genotype, on vesicle trafficking, exocytosis, and neurotransmitter release in our mouse model. In addition, we were able to identify several new pathways and processes involved in the development of the nervous system that are affected by wildtype and mutant torsinA. Furthermore, we have striking evidence from our gene expression data that glutamate receptor mediated synaptic plasticity in the striatum is the affected underlying cellular process for impaired motor learning in human ΔGAG torsinA transgenic mice.  相似文献

C-axis oriented ZnO thin films were grown on silicon (100) and (111) substrates by pulsed laser deposition. Low temperature photoluminescence spectra show besides the peaks of free excitons, of defect bound excitons, and of a donor-acceptor pair transition a new doublet at 3.328/3.332 eV. The doublet seems to originate from the columnar textured ZnO film structure. A corresponding structural dependence of the broadening parameter of the infrared dielectric functions was derived from spectroscopic ellipsometry in the spectral range from 380 to 1200 cm− 1. The wave numbers of the E1 transverse optical and A1 longitudinal optical phonon modes of the ZnO films on silicon are determined to be 406 and 573 cm− 1, respectively. These values are slightly smaller than those of single-crystalline ZnO thin films on sapphire.  相似文献

This article considers the nondirectional solidification of a binary-metal alloy in a cylindrical cavity, which is cooled along its outer vertical wall and the bottom. To study the influence of convection within the liquid phase on the final segregation, three cases are examined: the purely buoyancy-driven convection (case 0), the impact of an external steady axial magnetic field on the melt flow during solidification (case 1), and the effect of the combination of an external magnetic field with a steady electrical current (DC) applied directly to the melt (case 2). The results show that convection in the form of multivortices caused by the thermosolutal buoyancy leads to macrosegregations in the form of V-channels. The application of an external axial magnetic field alone suppresses the multivortex structure and, thus, the macrosegregation. By contrast, the parallel use of an additional voltage of 10−3 V leads to an increase in final macrosegregation. Summary This paper is devoted to the numerical study of axisymmetric rotating flow in enclosed cylinders with aspect ratios R (diameter divided by height) equal to 0.25, 0.33, 0.5, 1, 2, 3 and 4. The steady motion of the liquid is caused by the action of a low-frequency, low-induction rotating magnetic field with magnetic Taylor numbers lying in the range from 0.0025 · Ta cr to 0.9 · Ta cr , where Ta cr refers to the critical magnetic Taylor number. We found that the ratio between global meridional to global azimuthal flow velocity passes a distinct maximum which depends on the aspect ratio. It marks the transition from the viscous to the inertial regime. Their characteristic features are examined by analysis of the angular velocity and the torques exerted by the boundaries, in dependence on Ta and the aspect ratio.  相似文献
