A Maximum Likelihood Stereo Algorithm   总被引:8,自引:0,他引:8  
A stereo algorithm is presented that optimizes a maximum likelihood cost function. The maximum likelihood cost function assumes that corresponding features in the left and right images are normally distributed about a common true value and consists of a weighted squared error term if two features are matched or a (fixed) cost if a feature is determined to be occluded. The stereo algorithm finds the set of correspondences that maximize the cost function subject to ordering and uniqueness constraints. The stereo algorithm is independent of the matching primitives. However, for the experiments described in this paper, matching is performed on the $cf4$individual pixel intensities.$cf3$ Contrary to popular belief, the pixel-based stereo appears to be robust for a variety of images. It also has the advantages of (i) providing adensedisparity map, (ii) requiringnofeature extraction, and (iii)avoidingthe adaptive windowing problem of area-based correlation methods. Because feature extraction and windowing are unnecessary, a very fast implementation is possible. Experimental results reveal that good stereo correspondences can be found using only ordering and uniqueness constraints, i.e., withoutlocalsmoothness constraints. However, it is shown that the original maximum likelihood stereo algorithm exhibits multiple global minima. The dynamic programming algorithm is guaranteed to find one, but not necessarily the same one for each epipolar scanline, causing erroneous correspondences which are visible as small local differences between neighboring scanlines. Traditionally, regularization, which modifies the original cost function, has been applied to the problem of multiple global minima. We developed several variants of the algorithm that avoid classical regularization while imposing several global cohesiveness constraints. We believe this is a novel approach that has the advantage of guaranteeing that solutions minimize the original cost function and preserve discontinuities. The constraints are based on minimizing the total number of horizontal and/or vertical discontinuities along and/or between adjacent epipolar lines, and local smoothing is avoided. Experiments reveal that minimizing the sum of the horizontal and vertical discontinuities provides the most accurate results. A high percentage of correct matches and very little smearing of depth discontinuities are obtained. An alternative to imposing cohesiveness constraints to reduce the correspondence ambiguities is to use more than two cameras. We therefore extend the two camera maximum likelihood toNcameras. TheN-camera stereo algorithm determines the “best” set of correspondences between a given pair of cameras, referred to as the principal cameras. Knowledge of the relative positions of the cameras allows the 3D point hypothesized by an assumed correspondence of two features in the principal pair to be projected onto the image plane of the remainingN− 2 cameras. TheseN− 2 points are then used to verify proposed matches. Not only does the algorithm explicitly model occlusion between features of the principal pair, but the possibility of occlusions in theN− 2 additional views is also modeled. Previous work did not model this occlusion process, the benefits and importance of which are experimentally verified. Like other multiframe stereo algorithms, the computational and memory costs of this approach increase linearly with each additional view. Experimental results are shown for two outdoor scenes. It is clearly demonstrated that the number of correspondence errors is significantly reduced as the number of views/cameras is increased.  相似文献

X-ray fluorescence (XRF) is a commonly used analytical method to quantify lead (Pb), a toxic element, in atmospheric aerosol. The commercially available reference materials used for calibrating XRF do not mimic the concentrations and filter materials of particulate matter (PM) monitoring networks. In this study, we described an aerosol deposition method to generate Pb reference materials (RMs) over a range of concentrations to serve several purposes for the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Interagency Monitoring of PROtected Visual Environments (IMPROVE) monitoring networks including laboratory auditing, federal equivalency method evaluation, and calibration and quality control of XRF instruments. The RMs were generated using a laboratory-built aerosol chamber equipped with a federal reference sampler at concentration levels ranging from 0.0125 to 0.70 μg/m3. XRF analysis at UC Davis was demonstrated to be equivalent to a US and EU reference method, inductively coupled plasma—mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), for measuring Pb on RMs following a methodology described in the United States and international standards. The Pb concentrations on subsets of the RMs were verified by three other XRF laboratories with different analyzers and/or quantification methods and were shown to be equivalent to the UC Davis XRF analysis. The generated RMs were demonstrated to have short and long-term stability, satisfying an additional requirement of reference materials.

Saltwater or brackish water is used as a coolant in most industries. Therefore, understanding the heat transfer processes and hydrodynamics during the natural convection in saline water is crucial for enhancing the efficiency of a heat exchanger. This study elaborates on the natural convection heat transfer in saline water under atmospheric conditions. A DC power supply is used to regulate the power given to the heater in a liquid pool for thermal analysis. The pool liquid comprises solutions with varying salinity from 0%, 0.2%, 0.5%, and 2%. The effect of varying salinity on the heat transfer coefficient and the thermal aspects encountered during the desalination process is analyzed. The temperature distribution across the surface of the heater is monitored using an infrared camera. It is studied for the solution of different salinities. The heat transfer coefficient and Nusselt number are investigated during natural convection for normal water and salt solution of different concentrations. It is inferred from the study that in the regime of natural convection, there is no significant difference in the Nusselt number for normal water and saltwater for the lower value of temperature difference between the plate and pool. The heat transfer coefficient in 0.2% saline water is higher as compared to the other solutions.  相似文献

Replicative DNA polymerases are multiprotein machines that are tethered to DNA during chain extension by sliding clamp proteins. The clamps are designed to encircle DNA completely, and they are manipulated rapidly onto DNA by the ATP-dependent activity of a clamp loader. We outline the detailed mechanism of gamma complex, a five-protein clamp loader that is part of the Escherichia coli replicase, DNA polymerase III holoenzyme. The gamma complex uses ATP to open the beta clamp and assemble it onto DNA. Surprisingly, ATP is not needed for gamma complex to crack open the beta clamp. The function of ATP is to regulate the activity of one subunit, delta, which opens the clamp simply by binding to it. The delta' subunit acts as a modulator of the interaction between delta and beta. On binding ATP, the gamma complex is activated such that the delta' subunit permits delta to bind beta and crack open the ring at one interface. The clamp loader-open clamp protein complex is now ready for an encounter with primed DNA to complete assembly of the clamp around DNA. Interaction with DNA stimulates ATP hydrolysis which ejects the gamma complex from DNA, leaving the ring to close around the duplex.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effect of topical cyclosporin A (CsA) 2% in maize oil as a steroid-sparing agent in steroid-dependent atopic keratoconjunctivitis. DESIGN: Prospective, randomized, double-masked, placebo-controlled trial. PARTICIPANTS: Twenty-one patients with steroid-dependent atopic keratoconjunctivitis were studied. INTERVENTION: Patients used either topical CsA or vehicle four times daily for 3 months in addition to their usual therapy, and the clinical response was used to taper or stop topical steroids when possible. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Steroid drop usage per week, ability to cease steroid use, scores for symptoms and clinical signs, drop side effects, and overall subjective rating of trial drop by patients and clinician were measured. RESULTS: Cyclosporin A had a greater steroid-sparing effect than did placebo. Nine of 12 CsA patients ceased steroids compared to 1 of 9 placebo patients (P = 0.01), the final steroid use was lower in the CsA group (2.6 +/- 1.4 vs. 27.7 +/- 17.7, P = 0.005), and the mean reduction in steroid use was greater for CsA (85.5 +/- 14.7 vs. 13.9 +/- 16.0, P = 0.005). Clinical signs and symptom scores were reduced to a greater level for CsA. Serious side effects were lid skin maceration in one patient using CsA and an allergic reaction in one placebo patient. Marked blurring of vision after drop instillation was common in both groups, but intense stinging was more common in CsA patients (9/12 vs. 1/9, P = 0.01), limiting frequency of drop use. The clinician rated the trial drops as good or excellent more frequently for CsA (11/12 vs. 0/9, P < 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS: Topical CsA is an effective and safe steroid-sparing agent in atopic keratoconjunctivitis and, despite difficulties in patient tolerance, also improves symptoms and signs.  相似文献

PURPOSE: To perform a detailed examination of the immunomodulatory effects of topical cyclosporin A (CsA) in conjunctival tissue from patients with atopic keratoconjunctivitis (AKC). METHODS: Patients with active AKC were randomly allocated into two groups of four patients. For 3 months one group received 2% CsA drops, and the other group received placebo drops. Superior tarsal conjunctival biopsy specimens were harvested before and after treatment and examined by one- and two-color immunohistochemistry to compare leukocyte counts, HLA-DR+ and IL-2R+ cell counts, HLA-DR positivity of conjunctival epithelial cells, and counts of T cells expressing the cytokines interleukin (IL)-2, IL-3, IL-4, IL-5, and interferon (IFN)-gamma. RESULTS: Posttreatment values were significantly less than pretreatment values for the total number of leukocytes and in the numbers of CD3+ T cells, CD4+ cells, CD8+ cells, CD20+ B cells, neutrophils, and macrophages, and there was a decrease in the CD4-CD8 ratio (P = 0.03) in the CsA group. There was a reduction from before CsA treatment to after CsA-treatment in the numbers of HLA-DR+ and IL-2R+ cells (P = 0.03), but the reduction in the epithelial cell HLA-DR expression did not reach significance. The number of T cells staining for IL-3 and IL-5 was reduced, although not to statistical significance, but there was a significant reduction in the number of T cells expressing IL-2 and IFN-gamma (P = 0.03) after CsA treatment compared with initial values. There were no statistically significant differences between pretreatment and posttreatment values in the placebo group. There was a clinical improvement in the CsA group and a clinical worsening in the placebo group. CONCLUSIONS: The in vitro effects of CsA translate into a reduction in T cells, a normalization of the CD4-CD8 ratio, a decrease in T-cell activation, and a reduction in T-cell cytokine expression, especially IL-2 and IFN-gamma. The decrease in HLA-DR expression may be mediated by the change in IFN-gamma. There were fewer B cells but not fewer plasma cells after CsA and no change in IL-4 expression, suggesting minimal effects on type I hypersensitivity responses. There was no significant reduction in mast cell or eosinophil numbers, but direct effects of topical CsA on their function may play a role in the therapy of ocular allergic disease. These results show that the beneficial effects of topical CsA in AKC are accompanied by important changes in conjunctival immune cell profiles.  相似文献
