Nutrient uptake by the hindlimb was investigated utilising the arteriovenous difference technique in 5 Thoroughbred horses fed to maintenance a diet of 100% roughage or 52% oat grain and 48% roughage. Arterial blood was obtained from a catheter inserted into the carotid artery while venous blood was simultaneously collected from a catheter placed into the iliac vein via the medial saphenous vein. The arteriovenous difference for glucose was significant and represented a mean extraction of 10 +/- 1% with no effect of diet. If fully oxidised, glucose uptake (corrected for lactate and pyruvate arteriovenous difference) was sufficient to account for 78 +/- 13% or 107 +/- 15% of the oxygen consumed by the hindlimb in horses fed a roughage or 52% oat grain diet respectively. Acetate was also a major metabolite of the hindlimb, showing a 39 +/- 5% extraction with no effect of diet. However, the 52% oat grain diet did induce a significant decline in the concentration of acetate in arterial blood. The potential contribution to oxidation in the hindlimb was significantly reduced from 32 +/- 4% in horses fed roughage to 21 +/- 3% when fed 52% oat grain. D-3-Hydroxybutyrate uptake could account for 9 +/- 1% of the oxidation by the hindlimb with no effect of diet. The technique for measuring nutrient uptake across the hindlimb using the arteriovenous difference is relatively simple and would be valuable in investigating fuel use by muscle during exercise.  相似文献

Natural mixtures of sophorolipids produced by the yeast Candida bombicola have been analyzed by fast atom bombardment (FAB)-MS and collision-induced dissociation (CID)-MS. Some pure components have been analysed by two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy. The presence of acidic, lactonic, and O-acetylated forms and the position of double bonds in the fatty acid part of these glycolipids can be easily inferred from positive and negative ion FAB-mass spectra. Details about position of O-acetylation can be obtained from CID mass spectra of [M+H]+ and [M-H]- ions and from the NMR spectra. Differences in CID fragmentation between protonated and sodiated molecular ions are discussed in detail. Enzymatic hydrolysis of 6',6"-di-O-acetyl sophorolipid lactone by cutinase from Fusarium solani results specifically in the removal of the 6'-O-acetyl group, whereas the 6"-O-acetyl and lactone group are resistant. This specificity is explained from a three-dimensional model of the sophorolipid generated on the basis of the short 1H,1H distances as inferred from the NMR (ROESY) spectra.  相似文献

Rod Extrusion of Titanium‐Aluminum Composites The combination of different metals enables the processing of materials with local optimized properties. Thus, the production of metallic composites is associated with high standards in manufacturing technologie. Focus of the following investigations is the rod extrusion process of titanium‐aluminum‐composites. Besides the mechanical properties, the formation of the bonding zone and the mechanisms of adhesion in the bonding zone were investigated. The influence of specimens’ preparation and of different coatings used improve bonding were a matter of particular interest. Whereas coatings of copper or nickel inhibit the formation of a strong bonding due to the formation of oxide layers, sealed titanium cores can reach a mechanical strength of up to 100 MPa after rod extrusion. Compared to other joining technologies, an impairment of the base metal via formation of heat affected zones, pores or grain coarsening does not occur.  相似文献

Torsade de pointes is a potentially life threatening form of polymorphic ventricular tachycardia typically seen in the setting of congenital and acquired abnormal QT-prolongation. Numerous in vitro studies have investigated basic ionic mechanisms underlying delayed repolarization. The role of different ion channels and the induction of early afterdepolarizations have been studied in various cardiac cells including M cells. In addition, isolated heart models with and without electrical stimulation and/or the use of drugs which prolong repolarization have been developed in recent years. Some of these models have simulated conditions likely to exist in the clinical setting of torsade de pointes, such as bradycardia and hypokalemia. In in vivo canine and rabbit models, torsade-like polymorphic ventricular tachyarrhythmias have been induced by the administration of different agents such as cesium, neurotoxins, e.g., anthopleurin or various class III drugs under conditions designed to mimic the clinical situation. In the context of recent advances in the molecular genetics of long QT syndrome, those models which have used sodium or potassium channel blockers have gained particular interest. Based on all experimental studies it seems probable that the first beats of torsade occur due to early afterdepolarizations and triggered activity. The development of subsequent beats is less clear. Reentry based on inhomogeneity of refractoriness has been suggested as the underlying mechanism.  相似文献

Burden among family caregivers has yet to be adequately assessed relative to social desirability response sets. This study examined the impact of two different response biases relative to expressed burden among spousal caregivers of suspected dementia patients. In addition to individual social desirability, it was hypothesized that a distinct social desirability construct exists as a function of one's perception of self within relationships. As predicted, a significant inverse association was apparent between expressed burden and this systemic response bias (as measured by the Edmonds Marital Conventionality Scale), whereas this association was not apparent with a measure of individual social desirability (the Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale). Documents an approach to sea ice classification through a combination of methods, both algorithmic and heuristic. The resulting system is a comprehensive technique, which uses dynamic local thresholding as a classification basis and then supplements that initial classification using heuristic geophysical knowledge organized in expert systems. The dynamic local thresholding method allows separation of the ice into thickness classes based on local intensity distributions. Because it utilizes the data within each image, it can adapt to varying ice thickness intensities to regional and seasonal changes and is not subject to limitations caused by using predefined parameters  相似文献

With regard to the mechanical properties of heavy forgings, made from steel grade 508 ASTM Class 3 (20 MnMoNi 5 5) the influence of the cooling intensity during hardening was investigated and the possibilities and limits of accelerating the cooling rate were studied. The importance of the transformation heat is discussed. It can be concluded from this, that it is impossible to avoid the formation of upper bainite as a typical microstructure of heavy forgings from this steel type.To obtain high impact energy the annealing condition must be conform with this type of microstructure. The reason for impact decrease by over-annealing is related to Mo2C precipitation in the bainitic ferrite.Finally, experiences with intercritical heat treatment of this steel type are described and the special behaviour of the microstructure obtained is demonstrated.  相似文献
