One issue in the design and implementation of a wireless local area network is the selection of access point (AP) locations. Proper AP placement is necessary to provide adequate signal coverage and also to minimize cochannel coverage overlap. The impact of incorrect placement of APs is significant. Placing APs too far apart can lead to gaps in coverage. On the other hand, placing the units too close together leads to excessive cochannel coverage overlap, degrading system performance. Currently, AP placement involves a "trial and error" technique. When a technician tests the effect of moving an AP from one location to another, it is necessary to spend considerable time manually measuring signal strengths in order to determine how this move affects the AP's coverage area. In this letter, we describe a procedure for estimating the coverage areas of relocated APs. The procedure can be used as part of a manual design process or as part of an automated design tool.  相似文献

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is associated with sustained inflammation and progressive fibrosis, changes that have been linked to altered connexin hemichannel-mediated release of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Kidney fibrosis develops in response to increased deposition of extracellular matrix (ECM), and up-regulation of collagen I is an early marker of renal disease. With ECM remodeling known to promote a loss of epithelial stability, in the current study we used a clonal human kidney (HK2) model of proximal tubular epithelial cells to determine if collagen I modulates changes in cell function, via connexin-43 (Cx43) hemichannel ATP release. HK2 cells were cultured on collagen I and treated with the beta 1 isoform of the pro-fibrotic cytokine transforming growth factor (TGFβ1) ± the Cx43 mimetic Peptide 5 and/or an anti-integrin α2β1 neutralizing antibody. Phase microscopy and immunocytochemistry observed changes in cell morphology and cytoskeletal reorganization, whilst immunoblotting and ELISA identified changes in protein expression and secretion. Carboxyfluorescein dye uptake and biosensing measured hemichannel activity and ATP release. A Cytoselect extracellular matrix adhesion assay assessed changes in cell-substrate interactions. Collagen I and TGFβ1 synergistically evoked increased hemichannel activity and ATP release. This was paralleled by changes to markers of tubular injury, partly mediated by integrin α2β1/integrin-like kinase signaling. The co-incubation of the hemichannel blocker Peptide 5, reduced collagen I/TGFβ1 induced alterations and inhibited a positive feedforward loop between Cx43/ATP release/collagen I. This study highlights a role for collagen I in regulating connexin-mediated hemichannel activity through integrin α2β1 signaling, ahead of establishing Peptide 5 as a potential intervention.  相似文献

A study has been made of the cathodic deposition of copper ions from flowing dilute aqueous solutions onto a packed bed of graphite. The electrodeposition reaction is mass transfer controlled and expressions are presented for the cathodic current as a function of time, solution flow rate and bed characteristics. These have been verified from potentiostatic experiments. The cathode current efficiency is shown to approach 100% and packed bed electrodes are shown to be an effective means of extracting or removing metal ions from dilute solutions.  相似文献

Time-series classification (TSC) problems present a specific challenge for classification algorithms: how to measure similarity between series. A shapelet is a time-series subsequence that allows for TSC based on local, phase-independent similarity in shape. Shapelet-based classification uses the similarity between a shapelet and a series as a discriminatory feature. One benefit of the shapelet approach is that shapelets are comprehensible, and can offer insight into the problem domain. The original shapelet-based classifier embeds the shapelet-discovery algorithm in a decision tree, and uses information gain to assess the quality of candidates, finding a new shapelet at each node of the tree through an enumerative search. Subsequent research has focused mainly on techniques to speed up the search. We examine how best to use the shapelet primitive to construct classifiers. We propose a single-scan shapelet algorithm that finds the best $k$ shapelets, which are used to produce a transformed dataset, where each of the $k$ features represent the distance between a time series and a shapelet. The primary advantages over the embedded approach are that the transformed data can be used in conjunction with any classifier, and that there is no recursive search for shapelets. We demonstrate that the transformed data, in conjunction with more complex classifiers, gives greater accuracy than the embedded shapelet tree. We also evaluate three similarity measures that produce equivalent results to information gain in less time. Finally, we show that by conducting post-transform clustering of shapelets, we can enhance the interpretability of the transformed data. We conduct our experiments on 29 datasets: 17 from the UCR repository, and 12 we provide ourselves.  相似文献

Considerable progress has been made in the understanding of fretting fatigue over the last decade. Experiments have become more standardised and carefully controlled and this has provided the data necessary for development of methods for predicting fretting fatigue performance. This paper reviews a number of recent developments, starting with attempts to apply multiaxial initiation criteria to the fretting problem. The importance of the size effect is highlighted and an analogy is made between fretting and notch fatigue. Methods for characterising crack initiation using asymptotic analysis are discussed, together with short crack arrest concepts which provide a means of predicting fretting fatigue limits from plain fatigue data.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating role of self-efficacy in the development of students' intentions to become entrepreneurs. The authors used structural equation modeling with a sample of 265 master of business administration students across 5 universities to test their hypotheses. The results showed that the effects of perceived learning from entrepreneurship-related courses, previous entrepreneurial experience, and risk propensity on entrepreneurial intentions were fully mediated by entrepreneurial self-efficacy. Contrary to expectations, gender was not mediated by self-efficacy but had a direct effect such that women reported lower entrepreneurial career intentions. When a sharp-edged indenter is pressed into a half-plane material in the half-plane is displaced and ‘laps around’ the edges of the punch, possibly making contact with the side faces. This phenomenon is quantified within (coupled) half-plane theory, and applied first to an idealised indenter having the cross section of a trapezium, and then to a semi-infinite indenter. The latter allows an asymptotic form to be found which, through a generalised stress intensity factor may be collocated into the edge of any notionally sharp-edged indentation problem.  相似文献

Working from the simple assumption that bulk, surface and bound water in a heterogeneous system are characterised by different intrinsic nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxation rates and water activities several non-trivial relationships are derived between NMR water relaxation times and water activity. These relationships are tested for randomly packed beds of silica and Sephadex particles both in the fast and slow diffusive exchange regimes. It is shown that Archies law for electrical conductivity is obeyed by these porous beds and this observation is used to establish further relationships between NMR relaxation rates and electrical conductivity. By comparing the rates of recovery of viable cells of Salmonella typhimurium with the NMR, sorption isotherm and conductivity data it is shown that the bacterial cells are monitoring the local water activity in the fluid immediately surrounding them and not the experimental, global water activity coefficient. The implications of this observation for food preservation are considered.  相似文献

A circuit has been developed to enable a simple yet sensitive exposure meter to be made for any electron microscope. The circuit is based around an inexpensive operational amplifier and will indicate a current range 10 ?4?10 ?11 A which corresponds from maximum illumination to a level of fluorescent screen illumination which is not detectable by eye. The exposure meter measures the charge on the fluorescent screen which is correlated to exposure time for photography.  相似文献

Moist calcium silicate minerals are known to readily react with carbon dioxide (CO2). The reaction products can cause rapid hardening and result in the production of monolithic materials. Today, accelerated carbonation is a developing technology, which may have potential for the treatment of wastes and contaminated soils and for the sequestration of CO2, an important greenhouse gas. This paper reviews recent developments in this emerging technology and provides information on the parameters that control the process. The effects of the accelerated carbonation reaction on the solid phase are discussed and future potential applications of this technology are also considered.  相似文献
