Polymer nanocomposites based on poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/starch blend and graphene were prepared by solution mixing and casting. Glycerol was used as a plasticizer and added in the starch dispersion. The uniform dispersion of graphene in water was achieved by using an Ultrasonicator Probe. The composites were characterized by FTIR, tensile properties, X‐ray diffraction (XRD), thermal analysis, and FE‐SEM studies. FTIR studies indicated probable hydrogen bonding interaction between the oxygen containing groups on graphene surface and the –OH groups in PVA and starch. Mechanical properties results showed that the optimum loading of graphene was 0.5 wt % in the blend. XRD studies indicated uniform dispersion of graphene in PVA/starch matrix upto 0.5 wt % loadings and further increase caused agglomeration. Thermal studies showed that the thermal stability of PVA increased and the crystallinity decreased in the presence of starch and graphene. Toughness of rigid thermoplastic is an important mechanical property in polymer technology. In the present study, toughening of waste polypropylene (WPP) with ethylene–propylene–diene monomer (EPDM) rubber at different loading levels was carried out by melt blending at 180 °C. The EPDM-toughened WPP samples were characterized for its thermo-mechanical properties. The effect of carbon black (5 wt%) as a functional filler in WPP/EPDM to impart UV protection was also studied. The test sheets were subjected to natural weathering in variable climatic conditions for a 4-month period of time and were taken out at regular intervals for characterization. The waste PP underwent excessive degradation as the mechanical strength properties such as tensile, flexural and impact strengths were reduced drastically. On the other hand, WPP containing varying proportions of EPDM and carbon black showed better retention of strength properties. The percentage degree of crystallinity has been unusually increased after the environmental degradation due to chemi-crystallization. The impact-modified WPP which contains carbon black retained the processability even after the environmental aging. After aging, the non-stabilized systems were shown extensive change, whereas the structural integrity has been well retained of the toughened WPP containing carbon black as was evident from SEM and optical photomicroscopy.  相似文献

The effect of electron beam irradiation of dielectric and conductivity properties of nano ZnO–natural rubber (NR) disks was investigated here. It is revealed that electric properties such as AC conductivity, dielectric constant, and loss tangent of the irradiated samples were improved significantly as compared to the non-irradiated samples, which have been associated with defects in the composites. The total number of dipoles was generated inside the polymer matrix upon irradiation depends on the dislocations formed inside the matrix. From the experiments, we observe that in the amorphous region electron beam irradiation fetches crosslinking and breakdown at the same time. The enhancement of the dielectric and conductivity properties demonstrates that nano ZnO–NR disks will be a promising candidate for the optoelectronic industry. Finally, we also examined the influences of temperature on the electrical conductivity of irradiated samples.  相似文献

A series of blends of poly(vinyl alcohol)/poly(acrylic acid) (PVA/PAA) were prepared by solution mixing and casting. Glycerol was used as plasticizer. The blends were characterized for their physicochemical and thermo-mechanical properties. The FTIR results revealed the molecular level interaction between PVA and PAA at all blend ratios. The incorporation of PAA significantly reduced the storage modulus of PVA at a given temperature. PVA gradually lost its crystalline character with the increase of PAA and became fully amorphous when the PAA content in the blend exceeded 50 wt%. The kinetic parameters of the semi-crystalline blends were determined using the Avarami–Erofeev model, which showed excellent fitting with the experimental data from DSC. The loss in crystallinity of PVA also contributed to an increase in swelling of the blend when the PAA content is increased. The morphology study by FE-SEM demonstrated that there is no phase separation among the blend components at all blend ratios.  相似文献

In spring 1992 the Austrian Parliament has enacted a new law dealing with reproductive medicine. The 'Act on medically assisted conception' contains provisions which totally prohibit particular methods of assisted fertilization (such as embryo or egg donation). Oenococcus oeni is a lactic acid bacterium which is able to grow in wine and perform malolactic fermentation. To survive and grow in such a harsh environment as wine, O. oeni uses several mechanisms of resistance including stress protein synthesis. The molecular characterisation of three stress genes hsp18, clpX, trxA encoding for a small heat shock protein, an ATPase regulation component of ClpP protease and a thioredoxin, respectively, allow us to suggest the existence in O. oeni of multiple regulation mechanisms as is the case in Bacillus subtilis. One common feature of these genes is that they are expressed under the control of housekeeping promoters. The expression of these genes as a function of growth is significantly different. Surprisingly, the clpX gene, which is induced by heat shock, was highly expressed in the early phase of growth. In addition to stress protein synthesis, adaptation to the acid pH of wine requires efficient cellular systems to extrude protons. Using inhibitors specific for different types of ATPases, we demonstrated the existence of H+-ATPase and P-type ATPase.  相似文献

The effect of glass addition on sintering temperature and microwave dielectric properties of Cu2ZnNb2O8 (CZN) is investigated for possible low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) application. The CZN ceramic was prepared by the solid-state ceramic route. The phase formation, microstructure and elemental composition of the ceramics were studied using X-Ray Diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Transmission Electron Microscopy and Energy Dispersive Analysis. The CZN sintered at 975 °C/4 h has ?r = 15.2, tan δ = 0.0007 (at 5.1 GHz) and τf of −98 ppm °C−1 and CTE = 1.9 ppm °C−1. The addition of LBS and LMZBS glasses lowered the sintering temperature of CZN to below the melting point of silver. The 1 wt% LBS added CZN sintered at 935 °C/4 h had ?r = 14.7, tan δ = 0.001 (at 5.1 GHz), τf = −19 ppm °C−1 and CTE = −0.6 ppm °C−1. The addition of 0.7 wt% LMZBS to CZN and sintered at 935 °C/4 h had ?r = 14.8, tan δ = 0.002 (at 5.1 GHz), τf = −39 ppm °C−1 and CTE = −0.9 ppm °C−1.  相似文献

The effect of gamma-irradiation on the physicochemical, organoleptic and microbiological properties of pork was studied, during 43 days of storage at 4±1°C. Irradiation treatments were carried out under air or vacuum packaging on fresh pork loins at a dose of 6 kGy, at two different dose rates: 2 kGy/h and 20 kGy/h. The loins were evaluated for protein sulphydryl content and emulsifying capacity, surface hydrophobicity of proteins and sensorial evaluation. Regardless of the type of packaging and dose rate of irradiation, all irradiated pork samples were effectively prevented from bacterial spoilage for at least 43 days. Meat redness and texture of irradiated loins were relatively well preserved during the storage period, especially when samples were stored under vacuum. Overall, the physicochemical and organoleptic changes in pork loins appeared to be relatively little affected by the 6 kGy dose. No marked changes in emulsifying capacity and protein sulphydryl content of proteins were noted throughout the storage period. However, the hydrophobicity was reduced (P?0.05) by the faster dose rate of irradiation and by longer storage.  相似文献
