Spins of single donor atoms are attractive candidates for large scale quantum information processing in silicon. Formation of devices with a few qubits is crucial for validation of basic ideas and development of a scalable architecture. We describe our development of a single ion implantation technique for placement of single atoms into device structures. Collimated highly charged ion beams are aligned with a scanning probe microscope. Enhanced secondary electron emission due tohigh ion charge states (e.g., 31P13+, or 126Te33+)allows efficient detection of single ion impacts. Studies of electrical activation of low dose, low energy implants of 31P in silicon show a drastic effect of dopant segregation to the SiO2/Si interface,while Si3N4/Si retards 31P segregation. We discuss resolution limiting factors in ion placement, and process challenges forintegration of single atom arrays with control gates and single electron transistors. A common technique used for the calibration of collision prediction models is the Generalized Linear Modeling (GLM) procedure with the assumption of Negative Binomial or Poisson error distribution. In this technique, fixed coefficients that represent the average relationship between the dependent variable and each explanatory variable are estimated. However, the stationary relationship assumed may hide some important spatial factors of the number of collisions at a particular traffic analysis zone. Consequently, the accuracy of such models for explaining the relationship between the dependent variable and the explanatory variables may be suspected since collision frequency is likely influenced by many spatially defined factors such as land use, demographic characteristics, and traffic volume patterns. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the spatial variations in the relationship between the number of zonal collisions and potential transportation planning predictors, using the Geographically Weighted Poisson Regression modeling technique. The secondary objective is to build on knowledge comparing the accuracy of Geographically Weighted Poisson Regression models to that of Generalized Linear Models. The results show that the Geographically Weighted Poisson Regression models are useful for capturing spatially dependent relationships and generally perform better than the conventional Generalized Linear Models.  相似文献

Graduate students in psychology typically report that they either love research or hate research. Despite the fact that most doctoral students in psychology enter some type of clinical practice upon graduation, research is a requirement for all students enrolled in scientist-practitioner programs regardless of their career aspirations beyond graduation. Research advances knowledge in the field of psychology and often guides clinical practice, yet very few psychologists conduct research after graduate school (C. J. Gelso, 1993). Efforts have been undertaken to determine factors that contribute to graduate students' research productivity. One such factor may be research self-efficacy. This study examined the influence of early research experience as a factor to bolster research self-efficacy. Results indicated that supportive peers and mentors contributed to positive research experiences. Additionally, positive team research experiences significantly predicted research self-efficacy. A significant extension of an earlier analysis of molecular sieving carbons formed from polymeric precursors is reported for separation of important gas pairs including O2/N2, CO2/CH4 and C3H6/C3H8. Previously, it was shown that changing the time or temperature of the pyrolysis protocol for a commercially available polyimide (Matrimid®) altered the final properties of the carbons produced. Changing the precursor material was shown in this study to also affect the final carbon material obtained for a given final pyrolysis temperature. Analysis of low temperature carbon dioxide adsorption isotherms using density functional theory was employed to characterize the microporosity of the materials. Results are given here for a totally different packing-inhibited polyimide precursor (6FDA/BPDA-DAM). Sorption, permeation and diffusion data are compared with those obtained using the more densely packed commercial polyimide precursor Matrimid® studied earlier. Thermal soak was also investigated and the effect on permeation properties determined for carbons using both precursors. The results indicate that carbons from both precursors have size-selective ultramicropores as well as larger nonselective micropores that provide high capacity sorption sites for penetrants. High permselectivities, combined with high permeabilities are found for some of the samples when compared with conventional polymer materials. A hypothetical ultramicropore size distribution is shown to be useful to relate transport data to results from more commonly used characterization techniques such as pore size distribution analysis.  相似文献

Crash reductions related to traffic signal removal in Philadelphia   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The effect on intersection crashes of converting one-way street intersections in Philadelphia from signal to multiway stop sign control was estimated. Using crash and traffic volume data for a comparison group, regression models were computed to represent the normal crash experience of signal controlled intersections of one-way streets, by impact type, as a function of traffic volume. An empirical Bayesian procedure was used to estimate what would have been the expected number of crashes at the converted intersections had they not been converted. The empirical Bayesian estimates were compared with actual counts of crashes after conversion. Estimates were obtained for different classes of crashes categorized by impact type, day/night condition, and impact severity. Aggregate results indicate that replacing signals by multiway stop signs on one-way streets is associated with a reduction in crashes of approximately 24%, combining all severities, light conditions, and impact types.  相似文献

Male Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica) that conspecific females preferred in a 10-min, forced-choice test of affiliative preference were more likely than were males not preferred in such a test to fertilize females' eggs when subsequently mated with them, although preferred and nonpreferred males mated equally often with females. Further, the probability that a nonpreferred male would fertilize a female's eggs was significantly increased if she watched while he courted and mated with another female. The results indicate that in Japanese quail (a) affiliative preference reliably predicts females' choices of fathers for their offspring and (b) females may have some degree of control over whether the males with whom they mate actually fertilize their eggs. A method for measuring 5-L-oxoproline in urine, which involves isolation by short-column chromatography, acid hydrolysis to glutamic acid and enzymic assay of glutamic acid, was used to measure the rate of excretion in normal adults, aged 20 to 45 y. There was no difference in the daily excretion between omnivorous males (217 micromol/d) and females (195 micromol/d). In vegetarian males, urinary 5-L-oxoproline (404 micromol/d) was significantly greater than in vegetarian females (267 micromol/d, P = 0.013). Compared with omnivorous males or females, excretion of 5-L-oxoproline was significantly greater in vegetarian males (P < 0.0001) and females (P= 0.005). When normal adults consumed a diet in which the protein content was controlled at either 4.0 or 6.2 g N/d for 5 d, there was a significant increase in urinary 5-L-oxoproline on d 5, compared with either d 1 or 4. There was a significant inverse linear relationship between the increased urinary 5-L-oxoproline on the fifth dietary day and the nitrogen content of the diet. On the basis of this relationship, when the urinary excretion of 5-L-oxoproline (320 micromol/d) for vegetarians was predicted from an estimate of their dietary intake of nitrogen, the estimate was, on average, close to the measured value (345 micromol/d). As a matter of course, vegetarians excrete more 5-L-oxoproline in urine than do omnivores, and we speculated that this difference might be accounted for by differences in dietary nitrogen and the endogenous capacity for de novo synthesis of glycine.  相似文献

We hypothesized that a limitation in the endogenous formation of glycine might constrain catch-up growth during recovery from severe childhood malnutrition. The urinary excretion of 5-L-oxoproline is increased when the glycine available for glutathione synthesis is limited. Urinary excretion of 5-L-oxoproline was measured throughout recovery in 12 children (aged 16 +/- 6 mo) with severe malnutrition. Urinary 5-L-oxoproline was similar at admission and after recovery, but was increased significantly during rapid catch-up growth. There was a significant relationship between the rate of weight gain and 5-L-oxoproline excretion in urine. In nine children (aged 15 +/- 5 mo), the effect of oral supplementation with glycine, [1.7 mmol/(kg x d) for 48 h] during rapid catch-up growth on 5-L-oxoprolinuria and blood glutathione concentration was determined. In seven of the nine children weight gain was less than 17 g/(kg x d) and following oral glycine supplements 5-L-oxoproline excretion was reduced up to 64% and blood glutathione concentration increased up to 100%. In the two children who were gaining weight at a rate > 17 g/(kg x d), glycine supplementation was associated with a further increase in 5-L-oxoproline excretion and a decrease in blood glutathione. If 5-L-oxoproline is an index of the relative availability of glycine, then the data indicate that glycine may be limiting during rapid catch-up growth. This would have important implications for repletion of muscle and gain in height.  相似文献

We report the integration of a scanning force microscope with ion beams. The scanning probe images surface structures non-invasively and aligns the ion beam to regions of interest. The ion beam is transported through a hole in the scanning probe tip. Piezoresistive force sensors allow placement of micromachined cantilevers close to the ion beam lens. Scanning probe imaging and alignment is demonstrated in a vacuum chamber coupled to the ion beam line. Dot arrays are formed by ion implantation in resist layers on silicon samples with dot diameters limited by the hole size in the probe tips of a few hundred nm.  相似文献
