To provide stable output power of a gyrotron during long operation time the power stabilization was achieved by two schemes with PID feedback control of heater current and anode voltage. It was based on the dependence of the output power on both the anode voltage and the beam current and also on the dependence of the beam current on the gun heater current. Both schemes provided decrease of the power standard deviation to 0.3-0.5%. The comparison between parameters of both schemes is discussed in the paper.  相似文献

We present the first devoted theoretical and experimental study of the hysteresis phenomenon in relation to frequency tunability of gyrotrons. In addition, we generalize the theory describing electron tuning of frequency in gyrotrons developed earlier to arbitrary harmonics. It is found that theoretical magnetic and voltage hysteresis loops are about two times larger than experimental loops. In gyrotrons whose cavities have high quality factors, hysteresis allows one only little to broaden the frequency tunability range.  相似文献

Extension of the theory of a clinotron is developed by use of the scattering matrix of an oversized T-junction on the ends of a slow wave system. The matrix contains elements corresponding to the transformation of slow grating modes into fast ones and vice versa. Those fast waves with low ohmic losses provide strong resonant properties of a clinotron even in the case of strong attenuation of the surface mode. Results of the theoretical simulation are compared with experimental ones and obtained dependencies explain strong resonances in sub-THz clinotrons.  相似文献

High stabilization of the output power of high frequency gyrotrons for high power THz spectroscopy is an important issue in order to extend the applications of gyrotrons to wider subjects. For this objective, we tried a PID feedback control on a heater current of a triode magnetron injection gun (MIG) for stabilization of an electron beam current and an additional PID control of an anode voltage of the gun for direct stabilization of output power. This double PID control achieved effective responses for the stabilization of output power in both slow (from several tens seconds to several minutes) and fast (from milliseconds to seconds) time scales.  相似文献

Excitation of surface (slow), space (fast), and hybrid surface-space waves in BWO-clinotron with periodically non-uniform grating has been studied both theoretically and experimentally. It is shown that an interaction of electron beam with hybrid surface-space wave may be more effective than with surface wave because of higher Q-factor, and than with space wave because of higher impedance. The experimental test results of both 100-GHz CW clinotron with non-uniform three-stage grating and of 130-GHz CW clinotron with four-stage grating showed the excitation of radiation with output power more than 1 W and some specific features of electronic frequency tuning.  相似文献

In the experimental study on the frequency tuning of a double-beam gyrotron, an unexpected abrupt increase of the output power was observed for some magnetic field values corresponding to the excitation of high-order axial modes (HOAM). This effect can be explained through an after-cavity interaction of the spent but bunched electron beam with the neighboring transverse mode which has the same azimuthal but the next (i.e., greater by one) radial index with respect to the operating mode. The calculations show that under certain conditions the cyclotron synchronism between the electron beam and the next radial mode occurs in the extended region of an output cone, while the bunching of the spent electron beam is responsible for the excitation of this mode. The influence of some additional factors such as reflections of both modes from the output window, electron velocity spread, and magnetic field profile was studied numerically. It was shown that reflections, mode transformation, and velocity spread can enhance the effect of an abrupt power increase and reduce the starting current of the operating mode. The discovered after-cavity interaction can be either useful for a power increase at the HOAM operation of the frequency-tunable gyrotron or harmful for high cyclotron harmonic operation due to an expansion of the zone of fundamental cyclotron resonance mode excitation.
