Geomechanical aspects of the storage of radioactive waste in salt formations have been studied extensively using finite element methods over the last 20 years. In consequence a range of computer programs and associated modelling techniques have been assembled. A study of crack growth in vacuum and air at 725 °C (T/T
m=0.6) highlights the relative importance of creep and environmental crack-tip damage mechanisms in Powder Metallurgy (P/M)
disc alloy RR1000. Both of these mechanisms are associated with a transition to intergranular fracture during fatigue crack
growth at 0.25 Hz. Crack growth under sustained loads reveals the precise nature of these mechanisms in RR1000. The severity
of creep and environmental mechanisms is controlled by the grain-boundary microstructure and the crack-tip stress. Near-tip
cavitation leads to fracture in vacuum. Sigma-phase precipitation causes an increase in crack growth rate through increased
crack-tip cavity nucleation. Rapid near-tip stress relaxation induced by γ′ coarsening has a beneficial effect on the severity of this type of damage. In air, increases in crack growth rates are associated
with near-tip intergranular oxidation. It is proposed that the extent of this damage and subsequent growth rates are increased
by sigma-phase precipitation through enhanced oxidation due to chromium depletion and subsequent decreased passivation. Again,
a beneficial effect of rapid near-tip stress relaxation due to selective γ′ coarsening is apparent and environmental damage is reduced under these conditions. 相似文献

The present study examines the concurrent and predictive relationships between therapist psychodynamic-interpersonal activity and therapist-rated alliance. Ratings from 45 patient and therapist dyads engaged in short term psychodynamic psychotherapy from a point early (3rd or 4th session) and late (the session at which 90% of the treatment was completed) in treatment were used. The results suggest that therapists who have positive views of the alliance early in treatment also have positive views of the alliance later in treatment. Therapists who used psychodynamic-interpersonal activities early in treatment also made use of psychodynamic-interpersonal activities later in treatment. Moreover, the use of psychodynamic-interpersonal activities early in treatment was positively related to both global and specific aspects of therapist-rated alliance late in treatment. An ecto-ATP diphosphohydrolase (ATPDase) was purified to homogeneity from vesiculosomes shed from chicken oviduct. First, the ecto-ATPDase-enriched vesiculosomes were concentrated by filtration, differential centrifugation, and exclusion chromatography. Next, the nonionic detergent, Nonidet P-40, was used to extract the ecto-ATPDase from vesiculosomal membranes, and the solubilized enzyme was further purified by ion exchange (DEAE-Bio-Gel) and lentil-lectin-Sepharose 4B chromatography. In the final stage, immunoaffinity chromatography was utilized to obtain purified ecto-ATPDase. More than 25,000-fold purification was achieved. Specific activity of the purified enzyme was greater than 800 micronol/min/mg of protein with MgATP as the substrate, the highest ever reported for an ATPDase. The enzyme also hydrolyzed other nucleoside triphosphates in the presence of magnesium at similar rates and CaATP and MgADP at lower rates. The molecular mass of the purified glycoprotein was 80 kDa as determined by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and Western blot analysis. Based on its enzymatic properties, the relationship of the chicken oviduct ecto-ATPDase with other reported ATPDases and ecto-ATPases is discussed. 相似文献

The 2-D orthogonal wavelet transform decomposes images into both spatial and spectrally local coefficients. The transformed coefficients were coded hierarchically and individually quantized in accordance with the local estimated noise sensitivity of the human visual system (HVS). The algorithm can be mapped easily onto VLSI. For the Miss America and Lena monochrome images, the technique gave high to acceptable quality reconstruction at compression ratios of 0.3-0.2 and 0.64-0.43 bits per pixel (bpp), respectively. 相似文献

The adobe house developed in the hot arid climate of the American Southwest has the virtue of being cool in the day and warm in the night. The adobe wall acts as a filter giving nearly a 12-hr phase lag in the outside temperature oscillation. However, on reaching the inside, the oscillation suffers a strong attenuation in amplitude. In a previous paper it was shown that if the resistivity of the wall could be varied in a certain way from outside to inside, thenthe attenuation would be considerably reduced. In this paper a formula is given for the minimum possible attenuation under given design restrictions. Then it is shown how to make an optimum wall by suitably proportioning two or three layers of different materials. Numerical illustrations are given. 相似文献

The effects of a thermal residual stress field on fatigue crack growth in a silicon carbide particle-reinforced aluminum alloy
have been measured. Stress fields were introduced into plates of material by means of a quench from a solution heat-treatment
temperature. Measurements using neutron diffraction have shown that this introduces an approximately parabolic stress field
into the plates, varying from compressive at the surfaces to tensile in the center. Long fatigue cracks were grown in specimens
cut from as-quenched plates and in specimens which were given a stress-relieving overaging heat treatment prior to testing.
Crack closure levels for these cracks were determined as a function of the position of the crack tip in the residual stress
field, and these are shown to differ between as-quenched and stress-relieved samples. By monitoring the compliance of the
specimens during fatigue cycling, the degree to which the residual stresses close the crack has been evaluated.

We conducted a retrospective study of 516 cardiac recipients who underwent transplantation between April 1983 and April 1992, 19 of whom had development of post-transplantation lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLDs). These 19 patients presented with involvement of lung (5), gastrointestinal tract (5), disseminated disease (6), and adenoids and lymph nodes (3). B-cell proliferations ranging from an atypical hyperplasia to malignant lymphoma developed in 18 patients, and mixed cellularity Hodgkin's disease developed in 1 patient. The 19 patients with PTLD displayed a predominance of both women and cardiomyopathy as the indication for transplantation when compared with two separate control populations. No correlation was found between demographic criteria analyzed and (1) early versus late diagnosis of PTLD after transplantation, (2) the site of PTLD involvement, or (3) the histopathologic category of the PTLD lesion. Patients with gastrointestinal tract and lung PTLD involvement enjoyed an improved survival after both transplantation and PTLD diagnosis when compared with patients with PTLD involvement of all other extranodal sites. We report a high incidence of PTLD involving the lung and gastrointestinal tract in our cohort study. These sites of involvement responded better to a reduction in immunosuppression than did the other extranodal sites of involvement. 相似文献
