X-SAR interferometry: first results

Repeat-pass interferometry data were acquired during the first and second SIR-C/X-SAR missions in April and October 1994. This paper presents the first results from X-SAR interferometry at four different sites. The temporal separations were one day and six months. At two sites the coherence requirements were met, resulting in high quality interferograms. A digital elevation model in ground range geometry has been derived. The limitations of the X-SAR interferometry are discussed     

A rigorous analysis of DFB lasers with large and aperiodiccorrugations

A rigorous electromagnetic analysis of the distributed-feedback (DFB) laser in which the corrugations, seen as a cascade of interacting discontinuities, need not be periodic or small is presented. The analysis takes into account the continuous spectrum of radiation modes excited at each discontinuity and their interaction between successive discontinuities without assuming periodicity. The analysis of the individual discontinuity is based on the concept of the transition function. The analysis of the cascade of discontinuities takes place by generalized transfer-matrix methods (including the continuum), bypassing the need for a periodic unit cell. This enables the total diffraction generated by the grating to be modeled exactly. Particular attention is devoted to the threshold analysis of a ridge-waveguide DFB laser, for the case of a rectangular and a trapezoidal grating     

An integrated SAR/GIS approach for investigating urban deformation phenomena: a case study of the city of Napoli,Italy

A classification method for polarimetric SAR data analysis using a competitive neural network is considered. The network is trained by two LVQ algorithms. In addition, a specific feature vector as the input for the network employing the JM distance is determined. As a result of experiments using SIR-C data, average accuracy for classification results was 86.40%, where (i) the competitive neural network with 8-input and 40-output neurons was trained by LVQ1 and LVQ2.1, and (ii) the 8-dimensional feature vector with backscattering coefficients (dB) and pseudo-relative phases between HH and VV from L and C bands was used. It is shown that the proposed method outperforms other methods in average accuracy.     

Phenolic acids composition and antioxidant activity of canola extracts in cooked beef,chicken and pork

Crude polyphenol extracts (15 or 100 mg gallic acid equivalents (GAE)/kg meat) from canola meal reduced the formation of 2-thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS) in pre-cooked beef (66–92%), pork (43–75%) and chicken (36–70%). The canola extract contained sinapic (99.7%), ferulic (0.28%) and p-hydroxybenzoic acids (0.07%).     

A new method for the compensation of the SAR range cell migrationbased on the chirp z-transform

Precision synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data processing requires the compensation of the range-dependent range cell migration (RDRCM) phenomenon. This paper describes a new method that permits the compensation of the RDRCM effect using a nonstandard Fourier transform (FT). This operation is applied, in the two-dimensional Fourier domain, to the range signal spectrum and allows the compensation of the azimuth frequency-dependent scaling factor due to the RDRCM.
