We review progress on the spintronics proposal for quantum computing where the quantum bits (qubits) are implemented with electron spins. We calculate the exchange interaction of coupled quantum dots and present experiments, where the exchange coupling is measured via transport. Then, experiments on single spins on dots are described, where long spin relaxation times, on the order of a millisecond, are observed. We consider spin-orbit interaction as sources of spin decoherence and find theoretically that also long decoherence times are expected. Further, we describe the concept of spin filtering using quantum dots and show data of successful experiments. We also show an implementation of a read out scheme for spin qubits and define how qubits can be measured with high precision. Then, we propose new experiments, where the spin decoherence time and the Rabi oscillations of single electrons can be measured via charge transport through quantum dots. Finally, all these achievements have promising applications both in conventional and quantum information processing.

Flow-dependent corrosion phenomena can be studied in the laboratory and on a pilot plant scale by a number of methods, of which the rotating disc, the rotating cylinder, the coaxial cylinder and the tubular flow test are the most important. These methods are discussed with regard to mass transfer characteristics and their applicability to flow-dependent corrosion processes and erosion corrosion. Mechanism of erosion corrosion in fast flowing liquids The corrosion behaviour of copper, brass and gray cast iron has been studied in 3 % air-saturated NaCl solution and seawater respectively. The tests have been carried out in an experimental setup enabling a circular Couette type flow to be formed. At low and very high rates the corrosion rate clearly depends from the flow. Above certain critical flow rates the attack is localized and erosion corrosion is found at high turbulence spots. By electrochemical methods the particular corrosion rates are determined and it is shown, that the cathodic partial corrosion reaction is rate-controlling. The origin of mechanical interaction between the medium and the metal surface, but also to processes occurring within the covering layer. In the cheese industry, whey, which is rich in lactose and proteins, is underutilized, causing adverse environmental impacts. The fractionation of its components, typically carried out through filtration membranes, faces operational challenges such as membrane fouling, significant protein loss during the process, and extended operating times. These challenges require attention and specific methods for optimization and to increase efficiency. A promising strategy to enhance industry efficiency and sustainability is the use of enzymatic pre-treatment with the enzyme transglutaminase (TGase). This enzyme plays a crucial role in protein modification, catalyzing covalent cross-links between lysine and glutamine residues, increasing the molecular weight of proteins, facilitating their retention on membranes, and contributing to the improvement of the quality of the final products. The aim of this study is to review the application of the enzyme TGase as a pretreatment in whey protein filtration. The scope involves assessing the enzyme's impact on whey protein properties and its relationship with process performance. It also aims to identify both the optimization of operational parameters and the enhancement of product characteristics. This study demonstrates that the application of TGase leads to improved performance in protein concentration, lactose permeation, and permeate flux rate during the filtration process. It also has the capacity to enhance protein solubility, viscosity, thermal stability, and protein gelation in whey. In this context, it is relevant for enhancing the characteristics of whey, thereby contributing to the production of higher quality final products in the food industry. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry. 相似文献
