Electroabsorption optical modulators have been fabricated on GaInAs/GaInAsP multiquantum well structures whose bandgap had been increased by laser photoabsorption-induced disordering. Modulation depths of 20 dB have been obtained in material which has been bandgap blue shifted by as much as 120 nm, while samples shifted by 80 nm gave depths as high as 27 dB  相似文献

In-vitro iron dialysability from five Italian legumes (mottled bean, white bean, faba bean, chickpea, lentil) and the influence of phytate and extrusion cooking on it were evaluated. Iron dialysability was 2·3 and 2·4% in mottled and white bean respectively, 1·2% infaba bean, 2·7% in chickpea and 1·1% in lentil. After extrusion cooking the flours showed a marked iron contamination and a decrease in iron dialysability, but these changes were significant only for mottled bean. Enzymic phytate removal induced an increase in iron dialysability > 100% in all the raw legumes except mottled bean which showed an increase of only 57%. This finding indicates that, although phytate consistently modifies iron dialysability, it is difficult to identify a quantitative relationship between phytate content and iron dialysability.  相似文献

The bandgap of InGaAs-InGaAsP multiple-quantum-well (MQW) material can be accurately tuned by photoabsorption-induced disordering (PAID), using a Nd:YAG laser, to allow lasers, modulators, and passive waveguides to be fabricated from a standard MQW structure. The process relies on optical absorption in the active region of the MQW to produce sufficient heat to cause interdiffusion between the wells and barriers. Bandgap shifts larger than 100 meV are obtainable using laser power densities of around 5 W·mm-2 and periods of illumination of a few minutes to tens of minutes. This process provides an effective way of altering the emission wavelengths of lasers fabricated from a single epitaxial wafer. Blue shifts of up to 160 nm in the lasing spectra of both broad-area and ridge waveguide lasers are reported. The bandgap-tuned lasers are assessed in terms of threshold current density, internal quantum efficiency, and internal losses. The ON/OFF ratios of bandgap-tuned electroabsorption modulators were tested over a range of wavelengths, with modulation depths of 20 dB obtained from material which has been bandgap-shifted by 120 nm, while samples shifted by 80 nm gave modulation depths as high as 27 dB. Single-mode waveguide losses are as low as 5 dB·cm-1 at 1550 mm. Selective-area disordering has been used in the fabrication of extended cavity lasers. The retention of good electrical and optical properties in intermixed material demonstrates that PAID is a promising technique for the integration of devices to produce photonic integrated circuits. A quantum-well intermixing technique using a pulsed laser is also demonstrated  相似文献

We have investigated a fully planar technology for the development of arrays of X-ray microcalorimeters with doped germanium thermal sensor. Jurisdictions are looking into mixing hydrogen into the natural gas (NG) system to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Earlier studies have focused on well-to-wheel analysis of H2 fuel cell vehicles, using high-level estimates for transportation-based emissions. There is limited research on transportation emissions of hythane, a blend of H2 and NG used for combustion. An in-depth analysis of the pipeline transportation system was performed for hythane and includes sensitivity and uncertainty analyses. When hythane with 15% H2 is used, transportation GHG emissions (gCO2eq/GJ) increase by 8%, combustion GHG emissions (gCO2eq/GJ) decrease by 5%, and pipeline energy capacity (GJ/hr) decreases by 11% for 50–100 million m3/d pipelines. Well-to-combustion (WTC) emissions increase by 2.0% without CCS, stay the same with a 41% CCS rate, decrease by 2.8% for the 100% CCS scenario, and decrease by 3.6% in the optimal CO2-free scenario. While hythane contains 15% H2 by volume only 5% of the gas’ energy comes from H2, limiting its GHG benefit.  相似文献

In our effort to fabricate arrays of germanium microcalorimeters for X-ray detection, a truncated square-based pyramid shape has been identified as a suitable geometry for the sensors. It allows to obtain a uniform current spreading across each sensor, and represents a good compromise between having a large support area for the radiation absorber and for maintaining an overall small bolometer volume. This three-dimensional geometry, however, does not allow to create the electrical contacts for the sensors using a regular photoresist-based lift-off metallization process. In this paper we show how to deposit metal contacts on the lateral faces of the pyramidal sensors by metal evaporation through a butterfly shaped shadow mask, made of a five microns thick free-standing microstructured copper film. The process to fabricate the shadow mask, using microlithography and electrodeposition techniques, is also described.  相似文献

Whey extracts were obtained from pasteurized, UHT‐treated and in‐bottle sterilized milks. After acidic precipitation of casein the concentration of protein, NPN, lactose, lipid, calcium, magnesium and potassium was determined. Among the parameters examined, protein content was significantly reduced in the whey extracts from UHT‐treated and in‐bottle sterilized milks compared with that from pasteurized milk, while lactose content was increased. Calcium extracted in whey was at least 80% of total calcium of the milk. The total calcium to protein ratio of whey was increased as a function of the thermal treatment of milk, while ionic calcium was about 50% of total calcium in all whey extracts. In vitro protein digestibility was found to be significantly lower in whey from UHT‐treated and in‐bottle sterilized milks than in that from pasteurized milk. Parallel estimation of the percentage of ionic calcium and of the solubility of proteins in the pH range 2–10 indicated that calcium was not involved in the pH‐dependent solubility of proteins extracted in the whey, the extent of solubility being essentially a function of the thermal treatment of milk. The results suggest that calcium was not responsible for the formation of soluble protein macroaggregates with impaired digestibility that are present in whey from milk subjected to heat treatment of increasing intensity.  相似文献

A technique for fabricating arrays of graded reflectivity micromirrors with diameters as small as 25 microm is reported. It is based on laser-induced physical vapor deposition through microholes on a thin free-standing noncontact mask, and it is suitable for applications in micro-optics and solid-state laser technology.  相似文献

We are developing a method to build arrays of Ge-based microcalorimeters for soft X-rays detection using micro-photolithographic techniques. A key element of the process is the electrical and thermal connection between the germanium sensors and the interconnection electrical tracks, that lay on a substrate acting as mechanical support and thermal sink. The geometry of the sensors, that have a square base truncated pyramid shape, makes feasible a connection through indium soldering. We describe a technique, based on microlithography and electroplating, adopted to grow indium bumps of a few tens of square microns of area and several microns high on top of the contact pads patterned on the substrate. The sensor array is placed over the bumps and a subsequent baking melts the indium, soldering the sensors to the pads.  相似文献
