Evaluation of the Schottky Barrier Parameters in the Micron-Size Metal-Semiconductor Contacts

We show that under certain conditions the submillimeter wave detector response of a Schottky barrier diode is a linear function of applied bias and allows evaluation of the barrier height and the near-surface doping level of semiconductor in the micron-size Schottky barrier contacts.     

Optimization methods for compound poisson risk processes

In this article we introduce the notion of the family of compound Poisson risk processes that depend on a finite-dimensional parameter; we describe examples of such families that arise during formalization of surplus, quota, and quota-surplus reinsurance contracts; the optimization problem is stated for the growth rate of insurance company capital subject to a given constraint on the probability of ruin; numerical methods for solving this problem by Lagrange function saddle-point techniques are reviewed. Application of Diamond in High Technology

This review focuses on the critical issues and future directions in the application of diamond in high technology. Diamond nuclear radiation detectors, photosensors, photoemitters, spectral windows, active and passive microelectronic components, and microelectromechanical systems are discussed in detail. In Russia, high-technology diamond applications have not yet moved toward the manufacturing stage, even though Russia possesses immense resources of natural diamond and a considerable scientific potential in the field of creating unique synthetic diamonds, polycrystalline and single-crystal diamond films, and diamond-like compounds. We hope that the points raised in this review will provide the impetus for the development of diamond technology in Russia.     

Transformation of GaAs surface during the vacuum deposition of Au films studied with surface acoustic waves

Surface acoustic waves are used to study the transformation of the surface of a high-resistance (semi-insulating) gallium arsenide in situ in the course of the thermal deposition of gold in vacuum. It is demonstrated that the surface modifications that involve the formation of the Au-Ga liquid phase and solid solutions based on Au₃Ga, Au₇Ga₂, etc. result in variations in the parameters (amplitude and phase) of the transmitted acoustic wave and can be identified using such variations.     

Optical gas analyzer intended to monitor gas emissions in the atmosphere

The optical gas analyzer based on a semiconductor laser is proposed in the variant applicable for remote monitoring of methane emissions on territories with gas-transport systems. The optimized configuration of a gas analyzer, which allows more accurate control of gas emissions in the atmosphere, has been developed. An approach based on the use of an optical fiber amplifier is proposed to increase the range of action of such devices.
