The support of voice communication is fundamental in the deployment of an ad hoc network for the battlefield or emergency response. We use the QoS requirements of voice to identify factors influencing its communication, and validate their significance through statistical analysis. Based on the results, we propose an opportunistic protocol within a cross-layer framework that adapts these factors at different time scales. Hop-by-hop adaptation exploits the PHY/MAC interaction to improve the use of the spectral resources through opportunistic rate-control and packet bursts, while end-to-end adaptation exploits the LLC/application interaction to control the demand per call through voice coding and packet size selection. Our objective is to maximize the number of calls admitted while minimizing loss of quality. We evaluate the performance of the protocol in simulation with real audio traces using both quantitative and mean opinion score (MOS) audio quality metrics, comparing to several standard voice codecs. The results indicate that: (i) compression and packet-size selection play a critical role in supporting QoS over ad hoc networks; (ii) header compression is needed to limit the overhead per packet especially over longer paths; (iii) good voice quality is achieved even in strenuous network conditions. 相似文献

Photoluminescence of plant extract solutions has been investigated for discrimination of plant life forms (grasses, forbs, and shrubs) using principal component analysis (PCA). Clippings from each of six plant species representing three different plant life forms potentially found in the diets of free-ranging herbivores in the Chihuahuan Desert of North America were investigated for possible discernment. These plants included Sporobolus flexuosus (mesa dropseed, a grass), Pleuraphis mutica (tobosa, a grass), Dimorphocarpa wislizenii (spectacle pod, a forb), Sphaeralcea incana (pale globemallow, a forb), Flourensia cernua leaves (tarbush, a shrub), and Atriplex canescens leaves and stems (fourwing saltbush, a shrub). Emission spectra (370-600 nm) from phosphate buffered saline (PBS) extract solutions (pH 2.2, 7.5 and 12.5) were recorded for each plant with excitation at 365 nm. Use of PBS minimized chlorophyll interference. Discernment among plant life forms within these plant species was achieved. 相似文献

The objective was to determine if outdoor group housing of Holstein calves influences metabolic status, leukocyte responses, and behavior compared with individually housed calves. Forty-nine Holstein heifer calves (2 ± 1 d of age) were randomly assigned to 1 of 2 treatments: individually housed (G1; n = 22) or group housed [3 calves per pen (G3); n = 27]. The space allowances per calf were 4.8 and 7.0 m2 for G1 and G3, respectively. All calves were offered an identical plane of milk replacer nutrition (747 and 1,010 g of DM/d of a 28% CP:20% fat milk replacer from wk 1 to 2 and wk 3 to 6, respectively). Weaning was initiated during wk 7 by removing the p.m. feeding and calves were completely weaned when they consumed 900 g of calf starter/d (as fed) for 2 consecutive days after d 54. At d 90, calves were commingled into random outdoor groups of 5 calves per pen. Peripheral blood was collected during the neonatal (d 3, 10, and 21), weaning (d 46, 48, and 54), and commingling periods (d 90, 93, and 98) and was analyzed for neutrophil oxidative burst (OB) capacity when cocultured with Escherichia coli, neutrophil surface L-selectin protein expression, and whole-blood secretion of tumor necrosis factor-α when cocultured with lipopolysaccharide. Starter intake was greater for G3 during the postweaning period (wk 8 to 12). Average daily gain was greater for G3 than G1 from d 54 to 68 and tended to be greater after commingling from d 113 to 133. During the neonatal period, G3 calves had more activated neutrophils, as evidenced by increased neutrophil L-selectin protein expression and a tendency for increased percentage of neutrophils producing an OB than G1 calves. During weaning, G3 calves continued to have more activated neutrophils with increased L-selectin expression on d 46 and 48 and a greater OB intensity throughout the period. No differences were observed among leukocyte responses between treatments at d 93 and 98. Outdoor group-housed Holstein calves had improved performance and heightened neutrophil responses compared with individually housed calves. 相似文献

The Gas Turbine Modular Helium Reactor (GT-MHR) uses two compression stages to compress the helium and a pre-cooler and an intercooler to reduce the compressors inlet temperature, that dissipate around 308.36 MWth at the design operational conditions. This dissipated thermal energy can be used as an energy source to produce hydrogen. An energy analysis is conducted for a proposed system that includes GT-MHR combined with Organic Rankine Cycle (GT-MHR/ORC) and a Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzer (GT-MHR/ORC-PEM) for hydrogen production. The optimum operating parameters values of the new cycle are obtained using the Engineering Equation Solver (EES) software. Thermal efficiency has been improved from 48.6% for the simple GT-MHR cycle to 49.8% for the new combined (GT-MHR/ORC-PEM) cycle including hydrogen production at a rate of 0.0644 kg/s at the same operating conditions. However, the thermal efficiency for the combined GT-MHR/ORC was higher and reaches 50.68%. Moreover, a parametric study is carried out over a wide range of some operating conditions such as turbine inlet temperature, Compressor pressure ratio and compressor inlet temperature to investigate their effect on the new cycle performance. Results revealed that increasing the low-pressure compressor inlet temperature increases the amount of hydrogen produced while decreasing thermal efficiencies for the three cycles. Furthermore, increasing compressor pressure ratio reduces the mass flow rate of hydrogen produced util it reaches a minimum value then it starts to increase slightly, on the contrary, an opposite relationship is observed between thermal efficiencies and compressor pressure ratio. Moreover, at low compressor pressure ratio, the rate of hydrogen produced increases with increasing turbine inlet temperature; however, it decreases by increasing the turbine inlet temperature at high compressor pressure ratio. Nevertheless, a direct correlation is noticed between thermal efficiencies and turbine inlet temperature. 相似文献

The objectives of this study were to prepare and evaluate a novel sustained release tablet formulation using a binary mixture of polymethacrylate polymers: Eudragit E-100 (EE) and Eudragit L-100 (EL) in their salt forms. Tablets prepared using EE-citrate and EL-Na showed the highest degree of swelling among other combinations of EE and EL. The drug release rates were independent of the pH of the dissolution medium as the release profiles exhibited a continuous release pattern with no burst effect when changing the pH of the medium. These results, along with other test results, indicated the presence of an ionic interaction between both polymers when combined in the salt forms. 相似文献

Data replication is the creation and maintenance of multiple copies of the same data. Replication is used in Data Grid to
enhance data availability and fault tolerance. One of the main objectives of replication strategies is reducing response time
and bandwidth consumption. In this paper, a dynamic replication strategy that is based on Fast Spread but superior to it in
terms of total response time and total bandwidth consumption is proposed. This is achieved by storing only the important replicas
on the storage of the node. The main idea of this strategy is using a threshold to determine if the requested replica needs
to be copied to the node. The simulation results show that the proposed strategy achieved better performance compared with
Fast Spread with Least Recently Used (LRU), and Fast Spread with Least Frequently Used (LFU). 相似文献
