Ozone molecules present in high-purity oxygen as a feed gas interact with surfaces and oxygen molecules in an enclosed container. Therefore, some of the ozone molecules are destroyed and the density of ozone decreases with time. An experimental system has been constructed to monitor the temporal decrease in ozone density in a container based on the HgI 254 nm photoabsorption method. Our investigation is focused on the dependence of the effective lifetime of ozone on the wall material at various gas pressures. During the experiments, distortion of the measured decay curves often caused by instabilities in the mercury lamp intensity. We thus attempted to build a simple setup that eliminates the effect of long-term intensity drift. This setup is based on light source intensity monitoring by a separate photodetector and data correction software. This article describes the setup of the experimental apparatus, the results including some preliminary experiments and the temporal variation of the surface loss rate of ozone by repeated measurement along with inspections of the wall surface by Auger electron spectroscopy.  相似文献

We report a polarization-multiplexed (Pol-Mux) 4-Gsymbol/s 256 quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) coherent optical transmission over 160 km. A 64-Gb/s data signal was successfully transmitted with an optical bandwidth of 5.4 GHz. We also describe a Pol-Mux, 10-Gsymbol/s, 128- and 64-QAM (140 and 120 Gb/s) transmission over 150 km.   相似文献

In the unloading compliance method developed for clamped single edge tension (SE(T)) specimens, six crack mouth opening displacement (CMOD)‐based compliance equations (i.e. a/W = f(BCE′)) were proposed for the crack length evaluation without clearly clarifying the corresponding predictive accuracies. In addition, the effective elastic modulus (Ee) that reflects the actual state of stress should also be introduced in the crack length evaluation for SE(T) specimens, because the actual state of stress in the remaining ligament of the test specimen is neither plane stress (E) nor plane strain (E′). In this study, two‐dimensional (2D) plane strain and three‐dimensional (3D) finite element analyses (FEAs) are carried out to investigate predictive accuracies of the six compliance equations. In both 2D and 3D FEA, specimens with a wide range of crack lengths and geometric configurations are included. For a given specimen, the value of Ee that presents the equivalent stress state in the remaining ligament is calculated on the basis of 3D FEA data. A set of formulae for the clamped SE(T) specimen is proposed that allows to evaluate Ee from the corresponding CMOD compliance. This approach is verified using numerical data. The observations of the numerical verification suggest that the use of Ee instead of E or E′ in CMOD‐based compliance equations markedly improves the accuracy of the predicted crack length for clamped SE(T) specimens.  相似文献

Structural acrylic adhesives are of special interest because those adhesives are cured at room temperature and can be bonded to oily substrates. To use those adhesives widely for structural bonding, it is necessary to clarify the methodology for predicting strengths of bonding structures with those adhesives. Recently, cohesive zone models (CZMs) have been receiving intensive attentions for simulation of fracture strengths of adhesive joints, especially when bonded with ductile adhesives. The traction-separation laws under mode I and mode II loadings require to estimate fracture toughness of adhesively bonded joints. In this paper, the traction-separation laws of an acrylic adhesive in mode I and mode II were directly obtained from experiments using Arcan type adhesively bonded specimens. The traction-separation laws were determined by simultaneously recording the J-integral and the opening displacements in the directions normal and tangential to the adhesive layer, respectively.  相似文献

NTT is carrying out Utilization Tests for CATV Video Transmissions that provide CATV video transmissions, Video-on-demand (VOD) and ISDN services on an integrated basis to participating subscribers. In these tests, optical fibers are installed under the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) concept in three trial areas, each having about 300 subscribers, and two types of transmission systems are used: FDM-PON and ATM-PON. The objective is to characterize the effects of the bimodal distribution of rubber particles and its blend ratio on the mechanical properties of the thermoplastic polypropylene blended with two different styrene‐ethylene‐butadiene‐styrene triblock copolymer at the intermediate and high strain rates. Tensile tests are conducted at the nominal strain rates from 3 × 10?1 to 102 (1/s). Phase morphology is investigated to estimate the bimodal rubber particle size distribution. In addition, the in situ observation is conducted during uniaxially stretching within transmission electron microscopy step by step to investigate the deformation events depending on the elongation of samples. The elastic modulus increased gradually as the blend ratio of large rubber particle increased. An increase in the rupture strain and the strain energy up to failure was found for the bimodal rubber particle distributed blend system where the blend ratios of small rubber particle and large rubber particle were same. This is because the smaller particles dominant blend systems show the bandlike craze deformation while the localized plastic deformation is taken place in the larger particles dominated blend systems. The synergistic effect of these rubber particles gives rise to a strong increase in the ductility of these bimodal rubber particle distributed polypropylene systems. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper presents a method for determining the normalized impedance of a transverse slot in the image plane of the image nonradiative dielectric guide using measurements of the standing wave. The method overcomes the problem of distortion caused by the scattered evanescent fields that are present in the vicinity of the slot. The measurement equipment, its optimum parameters, and aspects necessary for accurate measurements are also discussed. Moreover, the finite-difference time-domain technique is employed to determine the normalized slot impedance, and good agreement is obtained with measured results, confirming the reliability of the method  相似文献

A cavity-backed slot antenna is thought to be one of the most suitable elements for the wireless transmission of microwave energy. A design technique is developed for the cavity-backed slot antenna using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. The technique is effective in characterizing antenna performance such as the input impedance and the far-field pattern since it takes into account the geometry of the feeder as well as the cavity. We present a method that overcomes difficulties when the FDTD method is used to design the antenna. Moreover, we discuss how to determine the calculation parameters used in the FDTD analysis. Several numerical results are presented, along with measured data, which demonstrate the validity, efficiency, and capability of the techniques. The paper proposes a new prediction method for the frequency characteristics of the cavity-backed slot antenna, which applies computational windows to time-sequence data. It is emphasized that windowing the slow decaying signal enables the extraction of accurate antenna characteristics. The material ductility and toughening mechanisms under high strain rate are characterized in the polypropylene (PP) blended with two different styrene–ethylene–butadiene–styrene triblock copolymer (SEBS) by the tensile tests at the nominal strain rates from 0.3 to 100 s?1, fracture surface observations, interparticle distances, and the morphological finite element (FE) analyses. It is found that the bimodal‐distributed SEBS particle morphology enhances the impact material ductility by craze bands formation, which is caused by the stress interaction between large rubber particles with the highly elongated small rubber particles inside the fibrils of the craze. It is found that there are three conditions for craze bands formation. The first condition is that the total SEBS content is larger than 15 wt %. Second condition is that the weight ratio of small SEBS particles against total SEBS particles should be larger than 0.06. Third condition is that the interparticle distance of large SEBS particles should be larger than 100 nm. In the numerical aspects, the present constitutive law with the craze nucleation and growth can successfully predict the craze bands in the microstructural FE models, leading to the useful procedure for identifying the ductile brittle transition based on the microstructure. The synergistic effect of these rubber particles gives rise to a strong increase in the ductility of these bimodal rubber particle distributed PP systems. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Simulation is an indispensable means of designing antennas, especially when the evaluation of the antenna characteristics using theoretical analysis is complex or not very accurate. This work proposes an open-ended image nonradiative dielectric (NRD) guide antenna and presents its characteristics obtained using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. The key features of the FDTD implementation are discussed, particularly the simple and convenient approximate three dimensional modeling of the coaxial feed cable and the excitation probe that were used. The characteristics of the antenna that were determined are the return loss and absolute gain frequency characteristics and the E- and H-plane radiation patterns. Experimental results are used to verify the characteristics obtained using FDTD and are found to be in good agreement.  相似文献
