Mathematical model of the movement of layers of metal during the rotary rolling of semifinished products made of hypereutectic silumins

A mathematical model has been constructed to describe the kinematics of the movement of metal on the surface of semifinished products made of hypereutectic silumin alloys as they undergo rotary rolling. The model is based on the dependence of the pitch of the helical lines of metal flow on the deformation ε of the product and the feed angle α. The pitch is minimal when ε = 50–55%, regardless of the feed angle α. The degree of deformation ε = 50–55% is optimum for ensuring that the unit number of cycles in which the semifinished product is loaded by the work rolls is such as to produce a fine-grained structure and maximize the ductility characteristics of hypereutectic silumins. __________ Translated from Metallurg, No. 6, pp. 57–59, June, 2006.     

Remediation of zones of local radioactive contamination

A methodology remediating zones of local radioactive contamination is presented. It is based on a classification of the zones taking account of the contribution of external and internal irradiation to the total dose load to the public. The criteria for identifying such loads and the steps required for their remediation are identified. Efficiency of pneumopulse regeneration of bag filter

Pneumopulse regeneration of bag filter has been investigated, and based on it a regression equation for regeneration efficiency has been derived. It has been shown that pulse pressure exerts the dominant influence on the regeneration efficiency.     

Study of the growth of YBa2Cu3O7−x films on a Al2O3 single crystal with a CeO2 buffer sublayer

Superconducting YBa₂Cu₃O_7−x films were prepared by magnetron sputtering on Al₂O₃ single crystals with a CeO₂ sublayer. Scattering of moderate-energy ions and x-ray diffraction were used to show that the films exhibit good single-crystal properties over the entire thickness up to 2.6 μm. Cardioinotropic Effects in Subchronic Intoxication of Rats with Lead and/or Cadmium Oxide Nanoparticles

Subchronic intoxication was induced in outbred male rats by repeated intraperitoneal injections with lead oxide (PbO) and/or cadmium oxide (CdO) nanoparticles (NPs) 3 times a week during 6 weeks for the purpose of examining its effects on the contractile characteristics of isolated right ventricle trabeculae and papillary muscles in isometric and afterload contractions. Isolated and combined intoxication with these NPs was observed to reduce the mechanical work produced by both types of myocardial preparation. Using the in vitro motility assay, we showed that the sliding velocity of regulated thin filaments drops under both isolated and combined intoxication with CdO–NP and PbO–NP. These results correlate with a shift in the expression of myosin heavy chain (MHC) isoforms towards slowly cycling β–MHC. The type of CdO–NP + PbO–NP combined cardiotoxicity depends on the effect of the toxic impact, the extent of this effect, the ratio of toxicant doses, and the degree of stretching of cardiomyocytes and muscle type studied. Some indices of combined Pb–NP and CdO–NP cardiotoxicity and general toxicity (genotoxicity included) became fully or partly normalized if intoxication developed against background administration of a bioprotective complex.     

Intensification of dust removal process

The design of barbotage‐rotation installation with different profiles of blades of the rotator has been created on the basis of modeling method. As a result of the complexity of aerohydrodynamic research in the system “gas–liquid” carried out on the aforementioned unit, certain recommendations on the improvement of the construction and operating conditions have been developed with a view to rise the effectiveness of dust removal. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
