We present an analysis of the combustion synthesis mechanisms for the preparation of hexaboride materials using three compounds as model systems: EuB(6), YbB(6), and YB(6). These three hexaborides were chosen because of the differences in ionic radii between Eu(3+), Yb(3+), and Y(3+), which is a factor in their stability. The powders were prepared using metal nitrates, carbohydrazide, and two different boron precursor powders. The resulting materials were analyzed by X-ray diffraction, which showed that combustion synthesis is effective for the synthesis of EuB(6), since the Eu(3+) ion has an ionic radius greater than ~1 ?. The synthesis of YbB(6) and YB(6) is not as effective because of the small size of the Yb(3+) and Y(3+) ions, making the hexaborides of these metals less stable and resulting in the synthesis of borates due to the presence of oxygen during the combustion process. Scanning electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering of the EuB(6) powders shows that the particle size of the hexaboride product is dependent on the particle size of the boron precursor. The magnetic susceptibility of our EuB(6) powders manifests irreversible behavior at low applied fields, which disappears at higher fields. This behavior can be attributed to the increase in size and number of magnetic polarons with increasing magnetic field.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This article reports a study on heat transfer and flow characteristics of nano fluid consisting of water and ethylene glycol as base fluid with different concentrations of SiO2as nanoparticles (0.1% and 0.15%) are flowing in a shell and tube exchanger. The SiO2 nanoparticles of about 15 nm diameter are used in this study. The results showed that the heat transfer coefficient of nano fluid was slightly higher than that of the base fluid at the same inlet temperature and at the same mass flow rate. It was observed that heat transfer coefficient of nano fluid was increased with an increased mass flow rate. Heat transfer coefficient was noticed to increase with the increase of the volumetric concentration of the SiO2. But increasing the volume concentration caused the increase in the viscosity of the nano fluid resulted in an increase in friction factor.  相似文献

The necessity of increased heat transfer surface area has resulted in the development of compact heat exchangers, which are widely used in the aerospace and automobile industries. Hence perforations are made on triangular plain fins to study the effects on the heat transfer coefficient. A numerical model has been developed for the perforated fin of a triangular plate fin heat exchanger. Perforated fin performance has been analyzed with the help of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) by changing the various parameters of the fin. The Colburn j factor and the Fanning friction factor are calculated for different Reynolds numbers. The values of the Colburn j factor and the Fanning friction factor are validated for known geometric fins with available data in the literature and extended to triangular perforated fins. The correlations have been developed between Reynolds number, Colburn j factor, and Fanning friction factor by taking into account fin height, fin thickness, and fin spacing. Muscleblind-like proteins (MBNL) are RNA-binding proteins that bind to the poly(CUG) and poly(CCUG) sequences that are the causative agents of myotonic dystrophy. It has been suggested that as a result of binding to the repeating RNA sequences, MBNL1 is abnormally expressed and translocated, which leads to many of the misregulated events in myotonic dystrophy. In this work, steady-state fluorescence quenching experiments suggest that MBNL1 alters the structure of helical RNA targets upon binding, which may explain the selectivity of MBNL1 for less structured RNA sites. The removal of one pair of zinc fingers greatly impairs the binding affinity of MBNL1, which indicates that the two pairs of zinc fingers might possibly interact with RNA targets cooperatively. Alanine scanning mutagenesis results suggest that the binding energy may be distributed across the protein. Overall, the results presented here suggest that small molecules that stabilize the helical structure of poly(CUG) and poly(CCUG) RNAs will inhibit the formation of complexes with MBNL1.  相似文献
