1,7-Dioxaspiro[5.5]undecane (olean), the major component of the female sex attractant pheromone blend of the olive fruit flyDacus oleae (Gmelin) was shown to be released as a racemate. The response of males and females to pure (R)-(–) and (S)-(+)-enantiomers was tested under laboratory and field conditions. Males in laboratory and field tests responded only to (R)-(–)-olean, which functions as a sex attractant. Females responded only to (S)-(+)-olean in laboratory tests but not in the field. There are indications that the latter enantiomer fuctions as a short-range arrestant throughout the day and as an aphrodisiac in the process of mating.Diptera: Tephritidae.  相似文献

Large bone defects caused by severe trauma, infection or tumor resection are still a major challenge for orthopaedic surgery. The key concept for successful bone regeneration consists of combining the osteoinductive effect of osteogenic cells with a suitable carrier structure to promote osteoblastic differentiation and optimal matrix production. Therefore, periosteal cells cultured in polyglycolic-polylactid acid (PGLA) fleeces were investigated for their osteogenic differentiation and used to repair critical size bone defects in a rabbit model. Periosteal cells were isolated from New Zealand White rabbits and expanded in vitro. Osteogenic differentiation was investigated by analysis of alkaline phosphatase and osteocalcin production in vitro depending on culture conditions and passage number. Cells were seeded into PGLA fleeces. After further cultivation, tissue constructs were examined histologically and by immunohistochemistry for cell distribution and osteogenic differentiation. These constructs of defined size were used to repair critical size calvarial defects (group I) in rabbits compared to a defect repair with polymers only (group II) or to untreated defects (group III). Bone healing was evaluated after 4 weeks by radiodensitometry and a special histological scoring system. For early evaluation, radiodensitometry was not sensitive enough to detect differences in calcification. However, on histologic examination the group with cell/fleece constructs revealed intense formation of uncalcified bone. The mean defect closure of the experimental group I was 65%, compared to control groups II and III with 31% and 22%, respectively. The established methods of 3-D-cell culture and ex-vivo transplant assessment proved to be a valuable tool for quality assurance. The results demonstrate that the combination of periosteal cells and polymer fleeces is a tissue engineering approach, which may have clinical applications in various fields of reconstructive surgery.  相似文献

Over the past decade, knowledge on false confessions has grown tremendously. However, a similar knowledge base on true confessions has not. In the present study, independent, self-reported true and false confession experiences of persons with serious mental illness were compared. In addition to examining the crimes and police questioning that led to the true or false confession, we investigated the reasons behind the confessions and the eventual case outcomes. We found that, in comparison to true confessors (n = 30), false confessors (n = 35) were questioned more times, took longer to confess, perceived the evidence against them to be weaker, and reported significantly more external pressure and less internal pressure. Moreover, of those participants who were convicted, false confessors were four times more likely to receive a prison sentence than true confessors. Well-characterized coals of different H/C atomic ratio and rank were reacted at 365°C with CO, H2 and CO---H2 mixtures in water in the presence and absence of sodium aluminate. The optimum H2/CO ratio for conversion was found to vary with the type of coal. It was <1 : 1 for low-rank and subbituminous coals, whereas the conversion of bituminous coals either did not vary with H2/CO ratio or reached a maximum at a higher H2/CO ratio (2 : 1). Even for a bituminous coal there was no advantage in reducing the water/coal ratio below 2 : 1 in NaAlO2-catalysed reactions. The conversions increased with increasing H/C atomic ratio of the coal and decreasing rank, with or without NaAlO2. Asphaltene yields increased with increasing coal rank and increasing proportion of CO in the H2---CO reacting gases. The mechanistic implications of these results are briefly discussed.  相似文献

In this study, we assessed the influence of three analgesic techniques on postoperative knee rehabilitation after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Forty-five patients scheduled for elective TKA under general anesthesia were randomly divided into three groups. Postoperative analgesia was provided with i.v. patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) with morphine in Group A, continuous 3-in-1 block in Group B, and epidural analgesia in Group C. Immediately after surgery, the three groups started identical physical therapy regimens. Pain scores, supplemental analgesia, side effects, degree of maximal knee flexion, day of first walk, and duration of hospital stay were recorded. Patients in Groups B and C reported significantly lower pain scores than those in Group A. Supplemental analgesia was comparable in the three groups. Compared with Groups A and C, a significantly lower incidence of side effects was noted in Group B. Significantly better knee flexion (until 6 wk after surgery), faster ambulation, and shorter hospital stay were noted in Groups B and C. However, these benefits did not affect outcome at 3 mo. We conclude that, after TKA, continuous 3-in-1 block and epidural analgesia provide better pain relief and faster knee rehabilitation than i.v. PCA with morphine. Because it induces fewer side effects, continuous 3-in-1 block should be considered the technique of choice. Implications: In this study, we determined that, after total knee arthroplasty, loco-regional analgesic techniques (epidural analgesia or continuous 3-in-1 block) provide better pain relief and faster postoperative knee rehabilitation than i.v. patient-controlled analgesia with morphine. Because it causes fewer side effects than epidural analgesia, continuous 3-in-1 block is the technique of choice.  相似文献

To investigate the role of the renin angiotensin system in the pathogenesis of hypertension in Cushing's syndrome two patients with hypercorticism were infused with 20 mg saralasin (1-sar-8-ala-angiotensin II) over a period of 30 minutes under constant blood pressue control. In addition, one patient with primary aldosteronism, an established form of mineralocorticoid hypertension, served as control. Neither in the two patients with Cushing's syndrome nor in the patient with primary aldosteronism could a blood pressure lowering effect of saralasin be observed. In the two patients with hypercoritcism both renin activity and plasma aldosterone increased during saralasin infusion. The patient with primary aldosteronism only showed a weak increase in plasma aldosterone concentration.  相似文献

Today a large number of microstructures are already employed as separate components or as constituents of larger modules in a broad spectrum of production in medical technology, optics, biotechnology, mechatronics, fluidics, (micro)-forming and tool construction. Current research activities are directed towards the downscaling of manufacturing procedures or the formation of complex process chains for the manufacture of micro workpieces. The Square Foot Manufacturing concept represents one approach aimed at achieving significant technical, economic and ecological developments in the production of microstructures by means of machining techniques that can be applied to a spectrum of materials as broad as possible. This fabrication concept representing a refinement of existing desktop manufacturing concepts is currently being developed at the Institute of Production Engineering of Helmut-Schmidt-University/University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg. This paper is intended to provide an overview of the theoretical concept and the current state of its technical implementation.  相似文献

Phase change materials (PCMs) are thermal storage materials with a high storage density for small temperature range applications. In the design of latent heat storage systems, the enthalpy change of the PCM has to be known as a function of temperature with high precision. During dynamic measurements, the sample is not in thermal equilibrium, and therefore the measured value is not the equilibrium value. The influence of non-equilibrium on the measurement results can be quantified by doing measurements during heating and cooling with any measurement instrument. Measurements carried out by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and by the T-history method are presented and discussed. To characterize encapsulated PCM objects, measurements on the whole objects should be carried out. A measurement setup for this purpose is also presented. The obtained precision meets typical application requirements, and good agreement between results obtained with the different methods is demonstrated.  相似文献
