A mechanical computerized three-dimensional scanner with a resolution of 1 micron was used to assess loss of enamel caused by orthodontic bonding and debonding. A total of 2646 measurements was performed on six human premolars. The results showed an average loss of enamel of 7.4 microns. The range was between 1 and 52 microns, which may account for discrepancies with earlier studies that measured only a few points per tooth surface.  相似文献

Chemical components stimulating oviposition bySitophilus zeamais in rice grain were isolated from rice bran and were found to be a mixture of ferulates, diglycerides, and free sterols. Oviposition preference of the species can be induced by synergistic action of these compounds.  相似文献

We have developed a method to produce micro/nano meter sized beams of keV energy highly charged ions (HCIs) and MeV energy protons/He ions with tapered glass capillary optics for application of surface modifications and a biological tool called “cell surgery”, respectively. The transmission through the tapered glass capillaries with inlet diameter of 0.8 mm?, outlet diameter from 900 nm? to several tens of microns and length of about 50 mm was performed using 8/64 keV Ar8+ beams. The transmitted beams had a density enhancement of about 10 and were guided through a capillary tilted by as large as ±100 mrad. The charge state of the beams was kept during the transmission. The combination of MeV proton/He ion beams and the capillary with a thin end window at its outlet can realize pinpoint energy deposition and three-dimensional selection of the bombarding point in an arbitrary position of a living cell or in any liquid object. We demonstrated that a real biological cell, HeLa cell with the nucleus labeled by green fluorescent protein (GFP), was irradiated with the microbeam, which was prepared by 4 MeV He2+ entering a capillary with an end window of 7.3 μm in thickness and outlet diameter of 9.6 μm?. The transmitted MeV ion beams had density enhancement up to 1000 according to the capillary outlet sizes, which are applicable to various material analyses employing microbeams.  相似文献

To clarify its biological nature, 10 samples of goblet cell-type adenocarcinoma of the lung were collected and compared with 10 other pulmonary mucin-producing adenocarcinomas with respect to immunohistochemical features and the presence of Ki-ras gene mutation in codons 12 and 13. Goblet cell-type adenocarcinomas lacked immunoreactivity for surfactant apoprotein and S-100 protein-positive Langerhans cells, which was in marked contrast to other mucin-producing adenocarcinomas. In addition, the mucin gene products, MUC-1 and MUC-2 glycoproteins were immunohistochemically stained. The results showed that MUC-1 glycoprotein is frequently expressed by mucin-producing adenocarcinomas except the goblet cell-type. Ki-ras gene mutation was detected in 12 of 20 (60%) mucin-producing adenocarcinomas. These mutations were exclusively found in codon 12 and G to A transitions were the most frequent type of alteration in the Ki-ras gene. In goblet cell-type adenocarcinomas, the frequency of Ki-ras gene mutation was 80% consisting of G to A transitions and G to T transversions in six and two tumors, respectively. Therefore, goblet cell-type adenocarcinomas differed from other mucin-producing adenocarcinomas in terms of immunohistochemical and molecular biological features, suggesting that goblet cell-type adenocarcinomas are distinctly different from other subtypes of adenocarcinomas.  相似文献

Continuous stoichiometric silicon nitride fiber was produced by the pyrolysis of perhydropolysilazane. This high-purity silicon nitride fiber is colorless and has high strength, modulus of elasticity, and thermal stability which are properties suitable for reinforcing plastics, metals, glasses, and even ceramics. The structures of three kinds of amorphous silicon nitride fibers (with stoichiometric, Si-excess and O-excess composition) were investigated by X-ray diffraction followed by calculating the radial distribution functions. Radial distribution functions were calculated from several possible crystal structures and compared with observed radial distribution functions.  相似文献

Networks of interstitial cells of Cajal embedded in the musculature of the gastrointestinal tract are involved in the generation of electrical pacemaker activity for gastrointestinal motility. This pacemaker activity manifests itself as rhythmic slow waves in membrane potential, and controls the frequency and propagation characteristics of gut contractile activity. Mice that lack a functional Kit receptor fail to develop the network of interstitial cells of Cajal associated with Auerbach's plexus in the mouse small intestine and do not generate slow wave activity. These cells could provide an essential component of slow wave activity (for example, a biochemical trigger that would be transferred to smooth muscle cells), or provide an actual pacemaker current that could initiate slow waves. Here we provide direct evidence that a single cell, identified as an interstitial cell of Cajal by light microscopy, electron microscopy and expression of Kit mRNA, generates spontaneous contractions and a rhythmic inward current that is insensitive to L-type calcium channel blockers. Identification of the pacemaker of gut motility will aid in the elucidation of the pathophysiology of intestinal motor disorders, and provide a target cell for pharmacological treatment.  相似文献
