The authors demonstrate an implementation of hybrid fiber-to-the-x (FTTx) and free space optical (FSO) technologies as another alternative solution to bring light-speed performance to the residential users. A simulation experiment was performed with a 20 km single-mode fiber spanning from the Central Office to 1:32 splitter, before the signal propagated through the air to FSO receivers which were individually equipped with an Optical Network Unit (ONU). A downstream performance of the video signal transmitted at 1550 nm wavelength with a bit rate of 1 Gbps was studied under different weather conditions. The results show that for an acceptable bit error rate of 10−9, 32 ONUs are supportable at a combined FSO: FTTx distance ratio of 20:4.8, 20:2, and 20:1.4 km during clear weather, average and heavy rain, respectively.  相似文献

An optical decoding technique is proposed for a spectral-amplitude-coding-optical code division multiple access, namely, the AND subtraction technique. The theory is being elaborated and experimental results have been done by comparing a double-weight code against the existing code, Hadamard. We have proved that the and subtraction technique gives better bit error rate performance than the conventional complementary subtraction technique against the received power level.  相似文献

This paper proposes a hybrid subcarrier multiplexing/optical spectrum code division multiplexing (SCM/OSCDM) system for the purpose of combining the advantages of both techniques. Optical spectrum code division multiple-access (OSCDMA) is one of the multiplexing techniques that is becoming popular because of the flexibility in the allocation of channels, ability to operate asynchronously, enhanced privacy and increased capacity in bursty nature networks. On the other hand, subcarrier multiplexing (SCM) technique is able to enhance the channel data rate of OSCDMA systems. In this paper, a newly developed detection technique for the OSCDM called spectral direct decoding (SDD) detection technique is compared mathematically with the AND subtraction detection technique. The system utilizes a new unified code construction named KS (Khazani–Syed) code. The results characterizing the bit-error-rate (BER) show that SDD offers a significant improved performance at BER of 10?9.  相似文献

Pure zinc-oxide and a composition of zinc oxide-single walled carbon nanotubes (ZnO-SWCNTs) thin films were prepared by using a sol–gel doctor blade technique. A precursor of zinc acetate dehydrate (Zn(CH3COO)2·2H2O), absolute ethanol (C2H5OH) and triethanolamine were mixed in one solution. Non-acid treatment SWCNTs were doped in the prepared solution. Structural and morphological properties of ZnO and ZnO-SWCNTs thin films were studied by means of X-ray diffractometer (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). XRD measurements indicated that the crystallite size of ZnO was bigger than the crystallite size of ZnO-SWCNTs; 0.4331 and 0.3386 nm, respectively. The FESEM images showed the hexagonal and nanorod structures of ZnO thin film and a broccoli-like ZnO nanostructures coated with CNTs for ZnO-SWCNTs thin film. The AFM analysis revealed smoother surface morphology of ZnO-SWCNTs thin film compared to the surface of pure ZnO thin film. TEM results captured the inner structures of ZnO and ZnO-SWCNTs. Inner and outer diameter of non-acid treatment SWCNTs were recorded about 5.09 and 14.95 nm, respectively. Photovoltaic performance of ZnO-SWCNTs based dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) showed high power conversion efficiency of 0.102 % compared to ZnO based DSSC (0.019 %). This study suggests that SWCNTs should be acid-treated to produce highly porous structure and greater surface area for better photovoltaic performance of the DSSCs.  相似文献

In this study, the authors investigated the effects of a single layer graphene as a coating layer on top of metal thin films such as silver, gold, aluminum and copper using finite‐difference time domain method. To enhance the resolution of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor, it is necessary to increase the SPR reflectivity and decrease the full‐width‐half maximum (FWHM) of the SPR curve so that there is minimum uncertainty in the determination of the resonance dip. Numerical data was verified with analytical and experimental data where all the data were in good agreement with resonance angle differing in <10% due to noise present in components such as humidity and temperature. In further analysis, reflectivity and FWHM were compared among four types of metal with various thin film thicknesses where graphene was applied on top of the metal layers, and data was compared against pure conventional metal thin films. A 60 nm‐thick Au thin film results in higher performance with reflectivity of 92.4% and FWHM of 0.88° whereas single layer graphene‐on‐60 nm‐thick Au gave reflectivity of 91.7% and FWHM of 1.32°.
