The present study investigated fracture and various mechanical properties of polyoxymethylene (POM) hybrids in tension and in flexure. The hybrids examined consisted of short glass fibers (GF) and spherical glass beads (GB). Comparisons are made between experimentally observed values and predictions based on the rule-of-hybrid mixtures for hybrid strength, modulus, impact strength, fracture toughness, and strain energy release rates. Results indicated that tensile strength, flexural modulus, and fracture toughness of POM/GB/GF hybrid composites can be estimated from the following rule-of-hybrid mixtures where PPOM/GB and PPOM/GF are the measured properties of the POM/GB and POM/GF composites, and χPOM/GB and χPOM/GF are the hybrid ratio (by volume) of the glass bead and that of glass fiber, respectively. In view of this, none of the aforementioned properties show any signs of a hybrid effect. Flexural strengths, impact strengths, and strain energy release rate all showed the existence of a negative hybrid effect where negative deviation from the rule-of-mixtures behavior was observed. The latter was closer to the estimation based on the inverse rule-of mixtures.  相似文献

This paper is a contribution to the discussion on compiling computational lexical resources from conventional dictionaries. It describes the theoretical as well as practical problems that are encountered when reusing a conventional dictionary for compiling a lexical-semantic resource in terms of a wordnet. More specifically, it describes the methodological issues of compiling a wordnet for Danish, DanNet, from a monolingual basis, and not—as is often seen—by applying the translational expansion method with Princeton WordNet as the English source. Thus, we apply as our basis a large, corpus-based printed dictionary of modern Danish. Using this approach, we discuss the issues of readjusting inconsistent and/or underspecified hyponymy hierarchies taken from the conventional dictionary, sense distinctions as opposed to the synonym sets of wordnets, generating semantic wordnet relations on the basis of sense definitions, and finally, supplementing missing or implicit information.  相似文献

Recently developed technologies have been uniquely integrated to produce optical filters with unprecedented performance. The precise design and fabrication of narrow-passband and high-efficiency optical filters with a central frequency of 532 nm are reported. Measurements with these filters demonstrate a performance that accurately mirrors the design specification, with one filter having a passband of 70 pm and an efficiency greater than 90% and the second filter having a passband of 7 pm and an efficiency greater than 80%.  相似文献

Network performance monitoring is essential for managing a network efficiently and for ensuring reliable operation of the network. Monitored network performance changes reflect events in the network, such as faults, significant changes in usage patterns or planned alterations. Network managers are interested in how and when the performance of a network changes; however it is inefficient to analyse all the data resulting from the monitoring operation manually. In this paper a rule based algorithm to automate detection of the changes in one of the network performance parameters, namely delay, is presented and described in detail. The nature of the delay pattern in a commercial communication network was the key issue in developing this algorithm. The approach was tested with monitored delay data generated from three different networks and showed good results. Also, the algorithm was tested with sets of delay data which have been already input to a previously developed detector based on a different approach, and the results between the two detectors are compared. In addition to a noticeable improvement in detection performance, the new approach provides more generality and independency of the source of the delay data, making the approach generally applicable to other networks. Previous segregation analysis of a sample of 234 randomly selected Australian families showed evidence for a recessive major gene controlling serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels independently of the specific response to allergens (SRA). Since linkage has been recently reported between serum IgE levels and the 5q candidate region spanning the interleukin-4 (IL-4) gene, we investigated whether the recessive major gene detected by segregation analysis was linked to the IL-4 region and whether polymorphisms within the IL-4 gene were associated with IgE levels. Both sib-pair method and combined segregation and linkage analysis using the regressive models were applied to our data. Whereas there was no evidence of linkage of total IgE levels to the IL-4 region, an indication of linkage (P values ranging between 0.01 and 0.03) was found between IgE levels adjusted for SRA and two IL-4 polymorphisms: one dinucleotide repeat in intron 2 of the IL-4 gene and a single nucleotide (-590 C to T) polymorphism in the IL-4 promoter. However, the putative IL-4 linked gene did not appear to be in linkage disequilibrium with either of these two polymorphisms. A contribution of the IL-4 promoter polymorphism, presumed to be a potential functional variant influencing IgE variation, was also excluded.  相似文献

The requirements of the refractories used in gas producers, water gas sets, horizontal retorts, vertical retorts, and gas and coke ovens are discussed with respect to the specifications which the material must necessarily meet to prevent failure of the installations. Illustrations show various types of installations and details of certain refractory shapes employed. The temperatures encountered in various portions of the carbonizing chambers, flues, and regenerators give a fair idea as to the duty which the fire brick must meet in operation.  相似文献

Reliable, high temporal, and spatial resolution data is essential for enhancing our understanding of aquatic nitrogen biogeochemical cycling. This paper describes a novel UV spectrophotometric sensor (ProPS, TriOS GmbH, Oldenburg, Germany) for the real time, in situ, high resolution simultaneous mapping of nitrate/nitrite (linearity 0.01 - 6 mg N L(-1), RSD's NO3-N 4-10%, NO2-N 7-14%) in fresh and estuarine waters. Good agreement (t test at p = 0.05) was found with MOOS-1 certified reference material and with reference segmented flow analysis data. River Taw deployments identified a diurnal cycle for NO3-N (0.22-0.63 mg L(-1), RSD 3.9%) and for NO2-N (0.01-0.28 mg L(-1), RSD 12.4%) with the photo-oxidation of dissolved organic nitrogen a source of diurnal nitrate/nitrite, and a large cyclical amplitude (30-62% of mean nitrate/nitrite). In situ Tamar Estuary nitrate/nitrite concentrations, mapped through the salinity gradient, were strongly correlated with suspended particulate material and inversely correlated with dissolved oxygen and pH, indicating midestuarine, bacterially mediated nitrification/denitrification, with the raised estuarine nitrite also significantly correlated with particulate organic nitrogen. Such previously unquantified inputs have important implications for N loadings calculated from coarse scale sampling and laboratory analysis, pollution assessment, and our understanding of the biological rhythms of aquatic organisms.  相似文献

An attractive method for producing cis-1,2-dihydroxy-3-methylcyclohexa-3,5-diene (toluene cis glycol) was developed employing a cis dihydrodiol dehydrogenase "deficient" strain of Rhodococcus (MA 7249). The toluene cis glycol produced was found to have optical rotations of [alpha]D25 = +25.8 (c 0.45, CH3OH) and +72.8 (c 0.42, CHCl3) which indicated an absolute configuration of (1S,2R) when compared with previously published values. When cultivated in laboratory fermentor in the presence of toluene vapors, MA 7249 reached a toluene cis glycol concentration up to 18 g/l in 110 h. Culture MA 7249 also accumulated cis (1S,2R) dihydrodiols from dihydronaphthalene, biphenyl, chlorobenzene, and styrene.  相似文献

In drug design, one way of improving metabolic stability is to introduce fluorine at a metabolically labile site. In the early stages of drug design, identification of such sites is challenging, and a rapid method of assessing the effect of fluorination on a putative drug’s metabolic stability would be of clear benefit. One approach to this is to employ micro‐organisms that are established as models of drug metabolism in parallel with the synthesis of fluorinated drug analogues. In this study, we have used the filamentous fungus Cunninghamella elegans to identify the metabolically labile site of the nonsteroidal anti‐inflammatory drug flurbiprofen, to aid in the design of fluorinated derivatives that were subsequently synthesised. The effect of the additional fluorine substitution on cytochrome P450‐catalysed oxidation was then determined via incubation with the fungus, and demonstrated that fluorine substitution at the 4′‐position rendered the drug inactive to oxidative transformation, whereas substitution of fluorine at either 2′ or 3′ resulted in slower oxidation compared to the original drug. This approach to modulating the metabolic stability of a drug‐like compound is widely applicable and can be used to address metabolic issues of otherwise good lead compounds in drug development.  相似文献
