A cold printing process has been developed from the IWS pad-batch(cold) method for the dyeing of wool cloth. The chemical aspects of the technique are discussed with particular reference to the role of sodium bisulphite in promoting dye fixation and increasing the colour yield. The system used for the selection of reactive dyes for application to wool in the cold is described. Typical printing procedures are outlined.  相似文献

Tensors model a wide range of physical phenomena. While symmetric tensors are sufficient for some applications (such as diffusion), asymmetric tensors are required, for example, to describe differential properties of fluid flow. Glyphs permit inspecting individual tensor values, but existing tensor glyphs are fully defined only for symmetric tensors. We propose a glyph to visualize asymmetric second‐order two‐dimensional tensors. The glyph includes visual encoding for physically significant attributes of the tensor, including rotation, anisotropic stretching, and isotropic dilation. Our glyph design conserves the symmetry and continuity properties of the underlying tensor, in that transformations of a tensor (such as rotation or negation) correspond to analogous transformations of the glyph. We show results with synthetic data from computational fluid dynamics.  相似文献

Mental health courts have proliferated in tandem with rising concerns about large numbers of people with mental illnesses cycling through the criminal justice system. Although the goals of these problem-solving courts are laudable, they have flourished because of systemic failures in public mental health and the criminal justice system. In addition to raising various civil rights and public policy concerns, these specialty courts are inherently flawed, unintentionally signaling an acceptance of the rates at which people with serious mental illnesses are entering the criminal justice system. Their very presence makes it more difficult to generate political will to address the root of the problem. We have previously reported inhibition of cell-free activation of the neutrophil superoxide-generating NADPH oxidase by a soluble cationic protein of neutrophil granules and by low concentrations of human defensin. Subcellular fractionation carried out in the current study indicated that the inhibitory substance was derived from azurophilic granules, was released into the medium on cell stimulation, and was resistant to phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride (PMSF). Phorbol ester was the most effective stimulus for the release of the blocking activity. The possibility was raised that granule protein(s) act in vivo as negative modulators of superoxide production. Gel filtration of granule extract revealed a markedly retarded protein peak exhibiting oxidase-blocking activity and containing lysozyme as the main protein. Because lysozyme did not exert inhibitory effects on oxidase activation, association of the inhibitory protein with lysozyme was assumed. Indeed a column of immobilized lysozyme retained a fraction of the granule extract's oxidase-blocking activity. Elution with a low-pH buffer recovered a component capable of inhibition of the NADPH oxidase in stimulated neutrophils and in the cell-free system. The main 29-kDa protein band in the eluted fraction was identified as proteinase 3, a serine protease of azurophilic granules. Enzymatically active as well as PMSF-blocked conventionally purified proteinase 3 interfered with phorbol myristate acetate-induced superoxide release. These findings support the hypothesis that exocytosed granule constituents may prevent excessive activation of the NADPH oxidase.  相似文献

Results are presented for color center, and semiconductor, laser pumping of the 1.82 μm transition in a thulium-doped fluoride fiber. As an amplifier small signal gain efficiencies of 8.1 dB/mN were attained with a maximum gain of 36.5 dB being achieved for around 17-18 mW of launched pump power. As a laser a maximum slope efficiency of 84% and a minimum threshold for oscillation of 330 μW was also demonstrated for this system. Furthermore by suppressing all reflections down to <36 dB superfluorescent or ASE output was observed. In achieving efficient operation with a diode laser pump source this system shows strong commercial potential  相似文献

This paper describes an industrial procedure developed for the application of dyes of good fastness properties, especially reactive dyes, to wool fabric by a pad-batch technique, following the initial observations (7) that by dyeing from concentrated solutions of urea the rates of diffusion and of reaction of reactive dyes with wool are greatly increased. The chemical and mechanical developments necessary to apply this initial observation under practical dyeing conditions are described.  相似文献

One serious difficulty in the deployment of wideband speech recognition systems for new tasks is the expense in both time and cost of obtaining sufficient training data. A more economical approach is to collect telephone speech and then restrict the application to operate at the telephone bandwidth. However, this generally results in suboptimal performance compared to a wideband recognition system. In this paper, we propose a novel expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm in which wideband acoustic models are trained using a small amount of wideband speech and a larger amount of narrowband speech. We show how this algorithm can be incorporated into the existing training schemes of hidden Markov model (HMM) speech recognizers. Experiments performed using wideband speech and telephone speech demonstrate that the proposed mixed-bandwidth training algorithm results in significant improvements in recognition accuracy over conventional training strategies when the amount of wideband data is limited  相似文献

It has been found, in this study, that there is no close correlation between the tensile and nanoindentation moduli of polyamide 6 (PA6) at high temperatures. It is demonstrated that heat modifies the surface of PA6 specimens, but its effect on the nanomechanical properties is minor. The main spurious factor which affects the nanoindentation results is adhesion, especially at low indentation depths. The overestimation in the measured indentation moduli can be corrected by performing indentations with loads high enough so that the modulus is independent of the applied load. It is concluded that the lack of strict correlations between the tensile and indentation moduli (after corrections of adhesion) is caused by the shift in the glass transition temperature of PA6 owing to the hydrostatic stress imposed by the indenter.
