The motion of sand particles close to a single moving blade was investigated using Positron Emission Particle Tracking (PEPT) during the period in which the free bed surface profile was evolving to an equilibrium shape. The area affected by the blade was divided into active and inactive regions and these were analysed separately. The characteristic heart-shape of the active region in the plan view was determined. An approximately 10-particle-diameter wide velocity transition zone is found between the two regions. While the tracer particle is in the inactive region moving away from the blade, the time dependence of the axial displacement is well described by a logarithmic relationship. The probability of particle movement towards the centre of the blade was quantified using a “central tendency” index. The calculated central tendency shows maxima at each side of the blade. The separation of the two maxima, which indicates the width of the active region, increases with fill level but is independent of rotational speed.  相似文献

An improved empirical model of the attenuation rates due to propagation through vegetation at millimetre-wave frequencies is described. The measured vegetation attenuation rates of 38 GHz signals were fitted to a two-parameter model with a final slope of 0 dB/m, to give an improvement in fit over the current ITU recommendation. However, this final slope is not a typical characteristic and is not seen at other frequencies. A new three-parameter model has been developed, which may have a nonzero final slope, giving the model greater freedom and therefore a better fit to measured data at all frequencies  相似文献

Caledonian Paper (CaPa) is a major paper mill, located in Ayr, Scotland. For its steam supply, it previously relied on the use of a Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustor (CFBC) of 58 MWth, burning coal, wood bark and wastewater treatment sludge. It currently uses a bubbling fluidized bed combustor (BFBC) of 102 MWth to generate steam at 99 bar, superheated to 465 °C. The boiler is followed by steam turbines and a 15 kg/s steam circuit into the mill. Whereas previously coal, wood bark and wastewater treatment sludge were used as fuel, currently only plantation wood (mainly spruce), demolition wood, wood bark and sludge are used.Since these biosolids contain nitrogen, fuel NOx is formed at the combustion temperature of 850–900 °C. NOx emissions (NO + NO2) vary on average between 300 and 600 mg/Nm3 (dry gas). The current emission standard is 350 mg/Nm3 but will be reduced in the future to a maximum of 233 mg/Nm3 for stand-alone biomass combustors of capacity between 50 and 300 MWth according to the EU LCP standards. NOx abatement is therefore necessary. In the present paper we firstly review the NOx formation mechanisms, proving that for applications of fluidized bed combustion, fuel NOx is the main consideration, and the contribution of thermal NOx to the emissions insignificant. We then assess the deNOx techniques presented in the literature, with an updated review and special focus upon the techniques that are applicable at CaPa. From these techniques, Selective Non-catalytic Reduction (SNCR) using ammonia or urea emerges as the most appropriate NOx abatement solution.Although SNCR deNOx is a selective reduction, the reactions of NOx reduction by NH3 in the presence of oxygen, and the oxidation of NH3 proceed competitively. Both reactions were therefore studied in a lab-scale reactor and the results were transformed into design equations starting from the respective reaction kinetics. An overall deNOx yield can then be predicted for any operating temperature and NH3/NOx ratio. We then present data from large-scale SNCR-experiments at the CFBC of CaPa and compare results with the lab-scale model predictions, leading to recommendations for design and operation. Finally the economic impact is assessed of implementing SNCR-technology when applying an NH3 SNCR or urea SNCR to the CFBC at CaPa.  相似文献

Fluidisation is frequently accompanied by unwanted attrition of the bed material. This paper focuses on the mechanical aspects of fines creation by attrition in fluidised beds supported by multi-orifice distributor plates. The attrition rates of low-density porous glass particles were measured; these particles show abrasive wear behaviour rather than breakage. Positron emission particle tracking (PEPT) was used to follow particle motion in three dimensions within the fluidised bed. For a single orifice distributor with background fluidisation, the attrition rate increased exponentially with increasing orifice gas velocity. For a multi-orifice distributor, however, attrition rates were roughly proportional to excess gas velocity, except near to a critical ratio of particle to orifice diameter; as this ratio approached 2, attrition was observed to increase by an order of magnitude. A method is proposed for estimating attrition rates from a combination of small-scale experimental results and theoretical calculations of distributor jet entrainment rates.  相似文献

Assessed the discriminative utility of a brief assessment procedure for quantifying cognitive status in alcoholics and the impact of existing cognitive status on acquisition of information presented during treatment. 112 male patients (aged 20–77 yrs), consecutively admitted to an inpatient alcohol treatment program, were assessed at admission and discharge. The 30-min assessment protocol included the Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Task (M. D. Lezak, 1983), portions of the Wechsler Memory Scale, and a brief structured interview that assessed treatment-relevant knowledge. These measures were able to differentiate performance levels related to age and drinking history. Recent drinking behavior and cognitive function may only moderately influence acquisition of treatment program content. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

L-valves are widely used in circulating fluidized beds (CFB) to control the solid circulation rate. Positron emission particle tracking (PEPT) is used to view and study the real-time particle motion in the L-valve. The paper presents experimental results of the solid motion and solid flux in the L-valve, Gs, as a function of the superficial injection air velocity, U. Results are compared with earlier work. The size of the L-valve is 4.5 cm I.D. Two different experimental configurations (L-valve discharge in a CFB riser and free discharge) were used. The L-valve flow regime is stable until approximately 6 U / Umf, with proportionality between solid flux and U / Umf. At a higher U / Umf, unsteady fluctuations in the solid flow gradually increase due to cavity formation around the L-valve elbow. Increasing the air flow even further, a maximum flow is reached, corresponding to the maximum discharge rate through the cyclone or hopper apex. PEPT has also confirmed the existence of a dune flow. For the first time, it gives quantitative data of the velocity profile of the dune flow which is governed by two important factors. The first factor is the distance of solids from the base of the L-valve, with solid velocity increasing away from the base. The second factor is the location of solids with respect to the dune, i.e. solid velocity is minimum at the base of the dunes and maximum at the top of the dunes. The average voidage in the L-valve is approximately constant and independent of U.  相似文献

A technique of Positron Emission Particle Tracking (PEPT) was used to obtain information on the flow behavior of coarse particles suspended in pseudoplastic liquids agitated by axial‐hydrofoil Lightnin impellers A320 and A410. PEPT enables the position of a 600 μm radioactive particle tracer inserted inside one of the suspended particles to be detected many times per second and its full trajectory followed inside the vessel. Particle trajectory analysis yielded information on particle circulation, velocity distribution, and spatial occupancy. The minimum speed for complete particle suspension, Njs, was also determined. The well‐known Zwietering correlation failed to predict the measurements by a substantial margin, suggesting that it is inadequate for viscous non‐Newtonian liquids.  相似文献

Coating of particles larger than about 1 mm can be achieved in a spouted bed, a particle mobilization device in which a strong particle circulation occurs, rapidly upwards in a lean central “spout” region and downwards in a slowly moving annular settled bed. In a spouted bed coater, a spray nozzle is placed at the base of the spout, spraying upwards into a distinct coating zone. The coating formation in a spouted bed is inter alia a function of (i) the particle motion, that is, how often and where particles enter and traverse the coating zone and (ii) the extent of droplet collection by individual particles passing through the coating zone. The coating model proposed here is based on the statistical history of individual particles, whose projected area governs the collection of spray droplets in the coating zone. Positron emission particle tracking (PEPT) has been used to determine the particle trajectories, the distribution of cycle times and the size and voidage of the spout. Whilst the model is not capable of delivering absolute values of coating mass a priori, it can predict deviations from a mean, which can itself be determined from an overall mass balance. To validate the model, a spouted bed coating process was studied in which coarse PVC spheres were coated with the hot‐melt coating material polyethylene glycol (PEG) 1500. Coating mass distributions, derived from the weight data of individual particles before and after manual coating removal, compared (for the studied conditions) very well with the predictions of the model.  相似文献

CFBs are increasingly used for both gas-catalytic and gas-solid reactions. The conversion is a function of the gas hydrodynamics, subject of the present research.Available literature on the gas mixing in the riser of a CFB shows contradictory results: some investigators neglected back-mixing of gas, whereas others report a considerable amount of back-mixing in CFB risers. The present paper reports experimental findings obtained in a 0.1 m I.D. riser, for a wide range of combined superficial gas velocity (U) and solid circulation flux (G). The gas flow mode (plug vs. mixed) is strongly affected by the operating conditions, however with a dominant mode within a specific (U, G)-range. Sand was used as bed material. The superficial gas velocity was varied from 5.5 to 8.3 m/s, the solids circulation flux was between 40 and 170 kg/m2 s. A tracer pulse response technique was used with a pulse of propane injected at the bottom and detected at the riser exit. The cumulative response curves, F(t), define (i) an average residence time (t50) obtained for F(t) = 0.5; and (ii) the slope of the curves (a steeper one corresponding with more pronounced plug flow) and expressed in terms of a span, σ. These parameters (t50 and σ) define the gas flow mode. A quantitative comparison of experimental results with literature RTD-models is inconclusive although the occurrence of both mixed flow and plug flow is evident, and (U, G)-dependent. The experimental results are expressed in empirical design equations, and the comparison of predicted and experimental results is fair: low values of σ determine the plug flow regimes, whereas back-mixing is more pronounced at higher value of σ. Experiments with similar systems might favor plug flow or mixing as function of the combined (U, G)-values. The introduction of the RTD-function in reaction rate equations can improve the prediction of the gas-conversion in a riser-reactor.  相似文献

This paper presents a critical review and analysis of issues in implementing electronic data and information sharing frameworks for organisations involved in response activities during disaster. An implementation focused approach is used to understand end‐user needs and develop tools that meet their operational requirements. A case study of New Zealand roading organisations examines how information is currently shared both within and between organisations to support crisis decision‐making, and the potential benefits and implications of enhanced data and information sharing frameworks. Preliminary results show that considerable performance gains in response activities during disasters can be achieved provided technology is designed to work with and enhance existing operating structures.  相似文献
