A theoretical model to analyze a covered rectangular antenna with an arbitrary dielectric constant superstrate is developed. The antenna is simulated by the radiation of two magnetic dipoles located at the radiating edges of the patch. The Green's function of an elementary magnetic dipole in a superstrate-substrate structure, utilizing spectral-domain analysis, is formulated, and the surface-wave and radiation field are computed. An improved transmission line model, which considers the stored energy near the radiating edges and the external mutual coupling, is used to compute the input impedances and radiation efficiency. Design considerations on the superstrate thickness and its dielectric constant are discussed. Experimental data for a single element and a 4×4 microstrip array is presented to validate the theory  相似文献

Summary: Compacted fiber composites offer unique properties due to their lack of an extraneous matrix. The conditions of processing ultra‐high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fibers were simulated in a heated pressure cell. In situ X‐ray diffraction measurements were used to follow the relevant transitions and the changes in the degree of crystallinity during melting and crystallization. The results strongly support the suggestion that the hexagonal crystal phase, in which the chain conformation is extremely mobile on the segmental level, constitutes the physical basis of compaction technologies for processing UHMWPE fibers into a single‐polymer composite. This report suggests that using a pseudo‐phase diagram outlining the occurrence of different phases during slow heating and the degree of crystallinity can provide valuable insight into the technological parameters relevant for optimal processing conditions.

Summary.  As we learn from the literature, flexibility in choosing synchronization operations greatly simplifies the task of designing highly concurrent programs. Unfortunately, existing hardware is inflexible and is at best on the level of a LoadLinked/StoreConditional operation on a single word. Building on the hardware based transactional synchronization methodology of Herlihy and Moss, we offer software transactional memory (STM), a novel software method for supporting flexible transactional programming of synchronization operations. STM is non-blocking, and can be implemented on existing machines using only a LoadLinked/StoreConditional operation. We use STM to provide a general highly concurrent method for translating sequential object implementations to non-blocking ones based on implementing a k-word compare&swap STM-transaction. Empirical evidence collected on simulated multiprocessor architectures shows that our method always outperforms the non-blocking translation methods in the style of Barnes, and outperforms Herlihy’s translation method for sufficiently large numbers of processors. The key to the efficiency of our software-transactional approach is that unlike Barnes style methods, it is not based on a costly “recursive helping” policy. A model of reactive, multi-species diffusion has been developed to describe N transformations in spherical soil aggregates, emphasizing the effects of irrigation with reclaimed wastewater. Oxygen demand for respiratory activity has been shown to promote the establishment of anaerobic conditions. Aggregate size and soil respiration rate were identified as the most significant parameters governing the existence and extent of the anaerobic volume in aggregates. The inclusion of kinetic models describing mineralization, nitrification, and denitrification facilitated the investigation of coupled nitrification/denitrification (CND), subject to O2 availability. N-transformations are shown to be affected by effluent-borne NH4+-N content, in addition to elevated BOD and pH levels. Their incremental contribution to O2 availability has been found to be secondary to respiratory activity. At the aggregate level, significant differences between apparent and gross rates of N-transformations were predicted (e.g., NH4+ oxidation and N2 formation), resulting from diffusive constraints due to aggregate size. With increasing anaerobic volume, the effective nitrification rate determined at the aggregates level decreases until its contribution to nitrification is negligible. It was found that the nitrification process was predominantly limited to aggregates <0.25 cm. Assuming that nitrification is the main source for NO3- formation, denitrification efficiency is predicted to peak in medium-sized aggregates, where aerobic and anaerobic conditions coexist, supporting CND. In effluent-irrigated soils, the predicted NO2- formation rate in small aggregates is enhanced when compared to freshwater-irrigated soils. The difference vanishes with increasing aggregate size as anaerobic NO2- consumption exceeds aerobic NO2- formation due to the coupling of nitrification and denitrification.  相似文献

The direction of arrival (DOA) estimation problem in the presence of signal and noise coupling in antenna arrays is addressed. In many applications, such as smart antenna, radar and navigation systems, the noise coupling between different antenna array elements is often neglected in the antenna modeling and thus, may significantly degrade the system performance. Utilizing the exact noise covariance matrix enables to achieve high-performance source localization by taking into account the colored properties of the array noise. The noise covariance matrix of the antenna array consists of both the external noise sources from sky, ground and interference, and the internal noise sources from amplifiers and loads. Computation of the internal noise covariance matrix is implemented using the theory of noisy linear networks combined with the method of moments (MoM). Based on this noise statistical analysis, a new four-port antenna element consisting of two orthogonal loops is proposed with enhanced source localization performance. The maximum likelihood (ML) estimator and the Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) for DOA estimation in the presence of noise coupling is derived. Simulation results show that the noise coupling in antenna arrays may substantially alter the source localization performance. The performance of a mismatched ML estimator based on a model which ignores the noise coupling shows significant performance degradation due to noise coupling. These results demonstrate the importance of the noise coupling modeling in the DOA estimation algorithms.  相似文献

Large radomes are assembled from many panels connected together forming joints or seams. When the panels are type A sandwiches that are optimized for minimum transmission loss over moderately narrow bandwidths, the seams and joints introduce scattering effects that can degrade the overall electromagnetic performance. Tuning the dielectric seams with conductive wires and optimizing their geometry is, therefore, crucial to enhancing the electromagnetic performance of the radome. The authors address the problem of systematically tuning the dielectric seams and present both numerical and experimental results to illustrate the tuning procedure. Included are results showing the effect of the tuning of the radome on the radiation of an enclosed aperture of circular or elliptic shape  相似文献

This paper describes a performance analysis of two open-cycle absorption systems for solar cooling. The working fluid is LiCl---H2O, where the water desorbs into the atmosphere and is replaceable. Both systems comprise a closed absorber and evaporator as in conventional, single-stage absorption chillers. The open part of the cycle is in the regenerator, used to reconcentrate the absorbent solution by means of solar energy. One of the systems under study has employed direct regeneration in a regenerating collector, exposing the solution simultaneously to the sun and to a stream of air. The other has employed indirect regeneration by contacting the solution with air heated elsewhere in a flat-plate collector. The analysis was performed using a code developed for modular simulation of absorption systems under varying cycle configurations and with different working fluids. The code has been modified to accommodate the features of the open-cycle systems, including the regenerating collector and the air-solution contactor. Based on specified design features, the code calculates the operating parameters in each system for a variety of conditions. The paper presents the performance curves obtained for both systems. Results indicate a definite performance advantage of the direct-regeneration system over the indirect-regeneration one.  相似文献

We determined the levels of antineurofilament antibodies in 29 patients with postpolio syndrome (PPS), 26 stable postpolio (PP) patients, 22 patients with ALS, and 20 normal controls (NCs). Patients with PPS had higher antibody levels to cholinergic neurofilaments than did all other groups. PP patients and those with ALS had antibody levels similar to those of NCs. The antibody binding level showed no relation to the age of the patients, duration of disease, or motor score.  相似文献

The forward scattering from an arbitrarily shaped cylinder is characterized by its scattering pattern and the induced field ratio (IFR). Accurate calculation of these parameters for arbitrarily shaped and composite beams is in many cases time consuming, therefore analytical approximations are used. A combined experimental and numerical procedure for evaluation of these parameters based on near-field probing is presented as an alternative. This procedure is shown to be far more accurate than the analytical approximations presently used in calculations of the total scattering effect of tuned sandwich radomes. The results obtained by this method verify well with the scattering characteristics computed analytically or numerically by the method of moments  相似文献
