A graphical representation for a statistical test of average equivalence and variance comparison with process data

This paper provides a graphical approach for presenting results of a statistical test of average equivalence with process data. In addition, a graphical representation of process change in variance is presented. An example from the biopharmaceutical industry is provided to illustrate the information contained in the chart. Evaluation of crystallographic changes and plastic strain ratio in Al alloys

Over the past several decades, extensive research endeavours in the field of crystal plasticity (CP) have led to the development of various Taylor-type homogenisation models enabling simulation of texture evolution during plastic deformation. This contribution provides a brief summary on the quality of deformation texture modelling under various boundary conditions. The crystallographic evolutionary patterns are discussed on the basis of grain interaction phenomena incorporated in the CP calculations. The annealing textures are successfully simulated by considering strain heterogeneities in the particle affected zone and by employing orientation selection during both nucleation and growth stages of recrystallisation. It is shown that the Lankford value profiles can be accurately reproduced by CP calculations on condition of reliable grain statistics.

Pyroelectric Electron Emission Behaviors of Congruent and Stoichiometric Lithium Niobate Single Crystals

Pyroelectric electron emission current measurements and current distribution collecting were performed on congruent and stoichiometric lithium niobate single crystals. Electron emission behaviors were found to be gap distance (crystal-detector) dependent. For small gaps, in both crystal compositions, emission was accompanied by a partial superficial domain inversion, triggered by surface plasma ignition. For large gaps (> 2 mm) in congruent single crystals the emission was activated by a true pyroelectric effect.     

NHE3 kinase A regulatory protein E3KARP binds the epithelial brush border Na+/H+ exchanger NHE3 and the cytoskeletal protein ezrin

Cyclic AMP is a major second messenger that inhibits the brush border Na+/H+ exchanger NHE3. We have previously shown that either of two related regulatory proteins, E3KARP or NHERF, is necessary for the cAMP-dependent inhibition of NHE3. In the present study, we characterized the interaction between NHE3 and E3KARP using in vitro binding assays. We found that NHE3 directly binds to E3KARP and that the entirety of the second PSD-95/Dlg/ZO-1 (PDZ) domain plus the carboxyl-terminal domain of E3KARP are required to bind NHE3. E3KARP binds an internal region within the NHE3 C-terminal cytoplasmic tail, defining a new mode of PDZ domain interaction. Analyses of cellular distribution of NHE3 and E3KARP expressed in PS120 fibroblasts show that NHE3 and E3KARP are co-localized on the plasma membrane, but not in a distinct juxtanuclear compartment in which NHE3 is predominantly expressed. The distributions of NHE3 and E3KARP were not affected by treatment with 8-bromo-cAMP. As shown earlier for the human homolog of NHERF, we also found that the cytoskeletal protein ezrin binds to the carboxyl-terminal domain of E3KARP. These results are consistent with the possibility that E3KARP and NHERF may function as scaffold proteins that bind to both NHE3 and ezrin. Since ezrin is a protein kinase A anchoring protein, we suggest that the scaffolding function of E3KARP binding to both ezrin and NHE3 localizes cAMP-dependent protein kinase in the vicinity of the cytoplasmic domain of NHE3, which is phosphorylated by elevated cAMP.     

TMN standards: satisfying today's needs while preparing fortomorrow

In response to telecom and computer industry forces, TMN standardization activities within the International Telecommunication Union have been consolidated and have been extended through complementary efforts in other fora and consortia. Efforts to widen the TMN technology choices, particularly in support of distributed management, have also been initiated with the support of these groups     

Modeling the crystallographic changes in processing of Al alloys

The evolution of deformation and recrystallization (RX) textures in 6016 Al alloy is analyzed in the current study by means of experimental measurements and numerical simulations. The deformation texture is modeled with various Taylor-type homogenization models whereas the development of RX texture is analyzed by evaluation of energy stored during the plastic deformation in grains of various orientations employing crystal plasticity (CP) calculations. It is shown that the main features of texture which evolve during discontinuous RX could be reproduced by taking into consideration both a microgrowth selection criterion and orientation selection based on crystallographically resolved stored energy of deformation. The influence of the strain heterogeneities on the development of RX texture is analyzed on the basis of CP and results derived from finite element calculations.     

Struma ovarii: an ovarian neoplasm

Authors shows three cases of very rarely occurring ovarian struma. First case--was discovered in a patient with normal physiological hormonal activity. Second case--was discovered in a postmenopausal patient with hyperthyroidism and with endometrial carcinoma. Third case--was discovered in a postmenopausal patient, without any complaints, where an ovarian tumor was found during periodical gynaecological examination. Histopathological evaluation of the material was decisive for the final diagnosis.
