The melting behavior after isothermal crystallization and the crystallization kinetics of random poly(2‐hydroxyethoxybenzoate/ε‐caprolactone) copolymers rich in 2hydroxyethoxybenzoate units were investigated by means of differential scanning calorimetry and hot‐stage optical microscopy. The observed multiple endotherms, which are commonly displayed by polyesters, were found to be influenced both by crystallization temperature and composition. By applying the Hoffman‐Weeks method to the melting temperatures of isothermally crystallized samples, the equilibrium melting temperatures of the copolymers were obtained. Furthermore, isothemal crystallization kinetics was analyzed according to the Avrami treatment. Values of the exponent n close to 3 were obtained, independently of crystallization temperature and composition, in agreement with a crystallization process originating from predeterminated nuclei and characterized by three‐dimensional spherulitic growth. Space‐filling banded spherulites were observed by hot‐stage optical polarizing microscopy at all the crystallization temperatures explored, the band spacing being affected by both crystallization temperature and composition. As expected, the introduction of ε‐caprolactone comonomeric units in the polymer chain of PHEBA was found to decrease its crystallization rate.  相似文献

The packet-oriented transport approach used in the advanced digital television (ADTV) system for terrestrial HDTV broadcast is described. ADTV achieves robust HDTV delivery on terrestrial simulcast channels via MPEG video compression, prioritization of MPEG data, and `cell-relay' type packet transport in conjunction with a two-tier physical transmission scheme. General design issues relevant to the development of the proposed transport protocol are discussed. ADTV's prioritization algorithm for partitioning MPEG-encoded video into high-priority (HP) and standard-priority (SP) bit streams is outlined. The data transport format supporting these prioritized compressed video bit streams is described. The three principal sublayers of the ADTV transport protocol are discussed in terms of specific functions, impact of system performance, and hardware implementation factors. A proof-of-concept simulation model that incorporates transport encoding and decoding functionality is outlined, and performance evaluation results are given for illustrative transmission scenarios  相似文献

Cell suspensions obtained from the testes of 13.5-14.5 day post coitum (dpc) mouse embryos reaggregate in cord-like structures following in vitro culture for 24 h on a reconstituted basement membrane (Matrigel). Ovarian cells of the same fetal age or cell suspensions from sex indifferent gonadal ridges (11.5 dpc embryos) form an organized cell network but not cord-like structures. Antibodies directed against laminin or against the alpha 6 subunit of its integrin receptor prevent such morphogenetic processes. The addition of 5 micrograms/ml cycloheximide, cytochalasin B or tunicamycin also inhibits the phenomenon. Interestingly, compounds that increase intracellular cyclic AMP (cAMP) (dbcAMP, forskolin and isobutyl-1-methylxanthine) induce embryonic testicular cells to organize into structures similar to those assembled by ovarian or sex indifferent cell suspensions. These findings offer a simple in vitro model for studying some aspects of early gonad development and provide novel experimental evidence that cell motility and cell-cell adhesion, possibly regulated by cAMP dependent mechanisms, are likely to play an important role in gonad morphogenesis.  相似文献

This retrospective study assessed 46 patients with advanced ovarian cancer who had elevated preoperative serum CA 125 (>35 U/ml) and who had another serum CA 125 assay 6-9 days after surgery. Preoperative CA 125 levels were similar in patients with residual disease below 20 mm and in those with larger residuum. The postoperative decline of serum CA 125 was significantly higher in patients with small residual disease at any preoperative serum CA 125 value. By taking 60% as the cutoff of CA 125 decline, the diagnostic accuracy of this parameter in discriminating between patients with residual disease below or above 20 mm improved progressively when we considered patients with increasing preoperative antigen values. However, even in the subset of patients with preoperative serum CA 125 above 400 U/ml, 2 of the 20 patients with less than 20 mm residual disease had a percentage reduction of antigen levels lower than 60%, whereas 5 of the 10 patients with larger than 20 mm residuum had a CA 125 decline higher than 60%. Therefore, we believe that the perioperative changes of CA 125 levels have a limited clinical relevance in the management of patients with ovarian cancer.  相似文献

The melting behavior and crystallization kinetics of poly(butylene terephthalate/thiodipropionate) (PBT) copolymers were investigated using the differential scanning calorimetry technique. Multiple endotherms typical of PBT were observed in the copolymers under investigation and were found to be influenced both by crystallization temperature (Tc) and composition. Wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction measurements permitted the identification of the crystalline structure of PBT in all the copolymers investigated. By applying the Hoffman–Weeks method, the equilibrium melting temperature of the copolymers was derived. Isothermal crystallization kinetics were analyzed according to Avrami's treatment. Values of the exponent n close to 3 were obtained, independent of Tc and composition, results in agreement with it being a crystallization process originating from predetermined nuclei and characterized by three‐dimensional spherulitic growth. The introduction of butylene thiodipropionate units was found to decrease the PBT crystallization rate. The heat of fusion (ΔHm) was correlated to the specific heat increment (Δcp) of samples of different degrees of crystallinity, and the results were interpreted based on there being an interphase, whose amount was found to increase as the sulfur‐containing unit content was increased. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Background: Fibromyalgia is a clinical condition that affects 1% to 5% of the population. No proper therapy has been currently found. It has been described that inflammation plays a central role in the nerve sensitizations that characterize the pathology. Methods: This paper aimed to evaluate the efficacy of etanercept and infliximab in the management of pain sensitization. Fibromyalgia was induced by three injections once a day of reserpine at the dose of 1 mg/kg. Etanercept (3 mg/kg) and infliximab (10 mg/kg) were administered the day after the last reserpine injection and then 5 days after that. Behavioral analyses were conducted once a week, and molecular investigations were performed at the end of the experiment. Results: Our data confirmed the major effect of infliximab administration as compared to etanercept: infliximab administration strongly reduced pain sensitization in thermal hyperalgesia and mechanical allodynia. From the molecular point of view, infliximab reduced the activation of microglia and astrocytes and the expression of the purinergic P2X7 receptor ubiquitously expressed on glia and neurons. Downstream of the P2X7 receptor, infliximab also reduced p38-MAPK overexpression induced by the reserpine administration. Conclusion: Etanercept and infliximab treatment caused a significant reduction in pain. In particular, rats that received infliximab showed less pain sensitization. Moreover, infliximab reduced the activation of microglia and astrocytes, reducing the expression of the purinergic receptor P2X7 and p38-MAPK pathway.  相似文献

Acute lung injury (ALI) is a group of lung illnesses characterized by severe inflammation, with no treatment. The fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH) enzyme is an integral membrane protein responsible for the hydrolysis of the main endocannabinoids, such as anandamide (AEA). In pre-clinical pain and inflammation models, increasing the endogenous levels of AEA and other bioactive fatty acid amides (FAAs) via genetic deletion or the pharmacological inhibition of FAAH produces many analgesic benefits in several different experimental models. To date, nobody has investigated the role of FAAH inhibition on an ALI mouse model. Mice were subjected to a carrageenan injection and treated orally 1 h after with the FAAH inhibitor URB878 dissolved in a vehicle consisting of 10% PEG-400, 10% Tween-80 and 80% saline at different doses: The inhibition of FAAH activity was able to counteract not only the CAR-induced histological alteration, but also the cascade of related inflammatory events. URB878 clears the way for further studies based on FAAH inhibition in acute lung pathologies.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Saffron is one of the most appreciated and expensive spices known and has been used from the oldest times as a dye for fabrics, a condiment to enrich food and for medicinal purposes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of crop management methods on the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the spice in southern Italy. Two sowing times (end of July and end of August) and two corm dimensions (4 and 3 cm horizontal diameter) were evaluated. RESULTS: Flowering period and duration were not influenced by the studied factors, while early sowing time and greater corm dimension resulted in a greater number of flowers per m2, increased stigma yield and a greater total yield of replacement corms. Early sowing time also showed a significant positive influence on stigma quality measured as apocarotenoid content according to ISO guidelines. CONCLUSION: The results show that, in a Mediterranean environment, appropriate crop techniques and selection of corms can result in economic levels of production and improve the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of saffron. In fact, according to their apocarotenoid contents, samples from the early (July) and late (August) sowing times belonged to the first and second ISO categories respectively.
