The dynamic pulse response of a travelling-wave semiconductor laser amplifier has been investigated. Peak output powers greater than 100 mW, with a fibre-to-fibre gain of 10 dB, have been observed for narrow pulses (<50ps FWHM) at low repetition rates. The dynamic bandwidth of the amplifier has been shown to be at least 50 GHz.  相似文献

Reports a field demonstration of 622 Mbit/s DPSK and FSK coherent transmission over 200 km of installed single mode fibre. Diode-pumped erbium doped fibre amplifiers were used as both power amplifiers and repeaters. System loss budgets of more than 68 dB were achieved with an intermediate amplifier repeater gain of 16.5 dB. Both systems incorporated fully automated endless polarisation control.<>  相似文献

The use of Gaussian field approximations enables simple analytical models to be derived for non-linear fibers and doped-fiber lasers and amplifiers. A new Gaussian-based method is described that is as easy to use as the standard Gaussian approximations, yet provides an rms error in the confinement factor of only 1.1% for a wide range of matched-cladding fibers. Similar accuracy is obtained for depressed-cladding fibers. The new approximation is used to predict Raman gain in a typical experimental MCVD fiber and excellent agreement is obtained between theory and experimental measurements  相似文献

The measurement range of long-haul optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR) may be extended substantially by introducing distributed Raman gain in the fibre under test. This paper looks at the access options and challenges facing the new operators in an increasingly liberalised telecommunications market. It considers the opportunities and risks associated with moving from a predominantly leased-line approach to one where a combination of owned and indirect access is also used.
