Viscosity of quartz-like glass containing cesium cations

The results of the measurements of the viscosity of quartz-like glass formed based on the high-silica alkali-borosilicate porous glass are presented in this work. The porous glass is impregnated by aqueous solutions containing cesium ions and then thermally treated until the pores collapse and a quartz-like glass is formed.     

Temperature dependence of the viscosity for some glasses in the Rb2O-B2O3-SiO2 system

The temperature dependences of the shear viscosity of glasses in the Rb₂O-B₂O₃-SiO₂ system are investigated using the bending method on a quartz viscosimeter in the viscosity range 10¹¹-10¹³ P.     

Queue Lengths and Waiting Times for Multiserver Queues with Abandonment and Retrials

We consider a Markovian multiserver queueing model with time dependent parameters where waiting customers may abandon and subsequently retry. We provide simple fluid and diffusion approximations to estimate the mean, variance, and density for both the queue length and virtual waiting time processes arising in this model. These approximations, which are generated by numerically integrating only 7 ordinary differential equations, are justified by limit theorems where the arrival rate and number of servers grow large. We compare our approximations to simulations, and they perform extremely well.     

Thermomagnetic data writing and erasing in DyCo/NiFe (TbFe/NiFe) film structures

A new principle of data writing and erasing is proposed based on the exchange coupling between magnetic layers with mutually orthogonal orientations of the effective magnetization. The new method provides for a significant decrease in energy consumption. The possibility of using bilayer magnetic films of the (rare earth metal-transition metal)/NiFe type possessing unidirectional anisotropy as the media for thermomagnetic writing and erasing of magnetooptical data is studied.

Temperature dependences of the viscosity for some glasses in the Cs2O-B2O3-SiO2 system

The viscosities of glasses in the Cs₂O-B₂O₃-SiO₂ system are measured by the bending method on a quartz viscosimeter in the temperature range 300–670°C. The temperature dependences of the viscosity of the glasses under investigation are determined, and the temperatures corresponding to the viscosities equal to 10¹¹, 10¹², and 10¹³ P are calculated.     

Mössbauer study of bacterial ferrihydrite

Mössbauer measurements reveal four inequivalent Fe sites in ferrihydrite produced by Klebsiella oxytoca. The origin of these sites can be understood in terms of two nanosized structural regions in the bacterium and a certain ordering of bilayers and single layers of Fe-occupied octahedra.
